"Fat Again" was inspired by the reincarnation thriller, Dead Again, a wonderfully implausible film done in grand Wellesian style by Kenneth Branagh. When writing the piece, I kept visualizing Branagh and then-wife Emma Thompson as the modern day hero and heroine (Emma with a few more pounds on her, of course). The detective hero is an ancestor of Adipost Zone detective, Page Briant, suggesting - as do other elements in the story - that fat appreciation has roots in something far deeper than societal mores.
The story was originally written for the Wilson Barbers Newsletter, a privately printed newsletter that has, to date, seen six issues. Every so often I think of doing another issue, but web writing is much less time consuming. (No need to do any collating or mailing.) Maybe some day. . .
