INTRODUCTION
The third of what I consider an informal ongoing series of Illinois Highway Stories (two others: "Icons" and "Suddenly"), "Passing Fancy" is another of my rapid magical weight gain tales. It's a sub-genre that leaves some FA readers cold, while others get a charge from its outlandishness. One's preference, I suspect, depends on how unfettered his or her personal fantasies are, though since I keep returning to it, you can guess where my predilections lie.
"Passing Fancy" was written back in 2003/4 with an eye toward appearing in a new print edition of Dimensions. Three years later, I started feeling antsy about getting it out there, so here t'is in its online debut instead. I'm already working on another "Fat Magic" story, of course.
