Hi Windy City friends!
I'm heading to Chicago for a conference this weekend. All my logistics are up in the air including whether or not I'm going by myself, where I'm staying, and how I'm getting around the city if I don't drive.
I'm sure the conference will keep me busy, but I'll prolly have some free time saturday and especially sunday if I end up taking a bus and getting stuck there.
Anyways, PM or reply if you have suggestions for fun things to do or cheaaaap places to stay. I should mention, my budget is almost $0.
hey! i will be in chicago this weekend also
thursday-sunday
let me know if you want to get a drink or something :)

i would check www.chicagoreader.com for events around the city. there's also time out chicago but i don't know if they are online. if its your first time, the touristy thing is downtown. its great during the summer. you are bound to find a festival or something at millenium park.
the chicago transit authority (cta) has a decent website with info on getting around the city. i think the system itself is fairly good. not perfect but i trust it.
not sure what to recommend about places to stay. depends where your conference is, your budget, what you are willing to put up with, that kind of thing. kind of tricky.
im out of commission for the next 6 to 8 weeks with a fractured foot (do not run to catch a train, there is bound to be another one soon!) so do some extra enjoying for me.

Thanks, Mejix, I hope to enjoy your city for you :). Ouchy on the foot, hope it heals quickly.

There is a good band playing at Shuba's on the north side Sat night called the Minders. $12 cover. I'll be going to a music venue in the near west 'burbs called Fitzgerald's to see The Iguanas. There's a ton of good stuff to do and see downtown. It's going to be a beautiful weekend, so walk around Millenium Park and head over to the Art Institute afterward. Have a great time!

We went last year and stayed at the HoJo (since I"m a cheapass hehee) it was reasonably priced, the room was clean, bathroom could have used an update though. But overall I would say that I would definatly stay there again. I'd say check out their website for the best rates, places like Hotwire/Travelocity seemed to be more expensive if I recall.
Have fun! Wish I was going!
