When chat is down

Whenever the chat server goes down, until Conrad can fix it (which invariably means a trip to the office for him when it happens on a weekend or holiday), please consider using Flashchat, which is available to all registered forum members.

To access Flashchat, click on the icon down toward the bottom of the main forum index under What's Going On--Members currently using Flashchat (between Currently Active Users and Dimensions Forums Statistics).

I have tried at least a half dozen times to check out the FlashChat and have been unsuccessful every time. It gives me some message about a script running slowly or some such thing and I just hang there, plus everything pretty much grinds to a halt on my computer. It shows I'm in the chat room but I never see anything and generally have to shut my browser down. Anyone else had this problem with FlashChat? It loads the chat software and then hangs at 23%.

Edited to add the message I get:
A script in this movie is causing Macromedia Flash Player 9 to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script?

I've went into flash chat several times but no one is ever in there :(
I'm the only one in there now as a matter of fact LOL and I need a work distraction!

Michelle, earlier this afternoon I saw your name show up there two or three times but then it would disappear. So you're making it into the room even if it doesn't show up on your screen.

When I've tried to get in previously it hasn't worked, but for some reason today it's working. Do you have the latest FlashPlayer installed?

I installed FlashChat as an experiment. It uses the same database as the forums, so anyone who is registered here can log into FlashChat with the same handle and password. FlashChat is actually very powerful, and it has numerous user-configurable options. I never publicized it much because I do not want for it to be seen as comptition for the main chat.

The flipside is that Flash requires a good bunch of horsepower and the latest software. Older machines often have problems with it. My suggestion is to try it and see if it works for you. You may have to download the latest version of the Macromedia Flash player.
