After a long battle with breast cancer, Wendy Jo Sperber has passed away :(

She was one of the first truly funny fat women I admired when I was young. She's still gorgeous (see below).

Very sad.

I remember seeing her on Bosom Buddies when I was about 10 and thinking that she was the first fat girl I'd really seen on TV. I was so glad to see her about 10 years later on Babes, however short lived.

Her voice was so distinct, I can hear it in my head right now.

So sad, so young.

I'm very sadden to hear of Wendy Jo Sperber's passing. She was a very talented and funny actress and was always a favorite of mine. I loved her in 'Babes'. My favorite movie of hers was her first one, 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand' as a Paul-obsessed Beatles fan. This movie is on DVD and you'll do yourself a favor by getting it, she's hysterically funny in it.

Other Sperber movies of note are '1941' as a boy-mad USO Hostess (another great comic turn with some cast member from 'Hand' in it) and the first and third 'Back to the Future' movies as Michael J. Fox's sister.

Thanks Wendy for the laughs. Rest in peace.

I loved her in '1941.' She also was in with Tom Hanks in "Bachelor Party" and I believe she was also in "Moving Violations." I loved her. :(

Oh, that really makes me sad. I watch Bosom Buddies early Saturday mornings on TBS, and love love love her. I am sorry she had such a hard fight.

I am so sad to hear this... I knews she hadn't been well for a number of years, but had also seen her being very active in raising funds for cancer patients, even very recently.... my thoughts go out to her kids...

Though this news isn't surprising, it's definitely disheartening. A wonderful comic actress who was frequently better than her material (Bachelor Party, anyone? or for that matter, Babes), she'll definitely be missed.

This is so saddening. Wendy was a great actress. She was spunky and funny but most of all endearing. I loved her voice.

That is so sad. Wendie Jo was in poor health for quite some time. I mentioned elsewhere that as chairman I had the good fortune to share a dinner table with Wendie Jo Sperber and Susan Peretz when NAAFA honored the stars of Fox's "Babes." (I wish I could find the pictures). Susan was somewhat guarded and clearly flummoxed over all the fat women and FAs, whereas Wendie was sweet and graceful. She was not only a beautiful woman, but also an amazingly versatile actress with a delightful sense of humoer and an uncanny talent for hilarious comedy.

OH no! How sad!
I remember growing up and using her as a role model, especially in "Babes".
My sister, a friend and I would watch the show and see similarities between each of the characters and us...and Wendy's character was me. Dang. :-(

She was my big hair/ boyfriend's blazer fashion role model for a while in the '80s. (Then it was Bono's leather pants and bandanas for a few years.)

Sad, indeed.

This is very sad. :(

I would love to see the episodes of Will of Grace which she has been in, since I have never seen those episodes before.

Anyone remember those?

She was truly ahead of her time.Another movie I remember her in was "Stew School" about A bunch of misfits Airline hosts/hostesses.A bomb goes off in the plane & she gets caught in the backdraft & ends up sealing the hole with her BUTT!...She knew how to use her size to get a laugh without completely making a fool of herself as some would look for her to do.

Not to say it wasn't sad when Wendy Jo passed away, but did you really have to dig up a 5 year old thread?

*grins*

You know the greatest serial killers are the ones you've never heard of?

You ask why, and its very simple. They are the ones who've never been caught. They aren't in the public eye because they never allowed themselves to slip up.

Just think about that....... :-)

Just now reading about Wendy Jo Sperber's passing. Such a shame. I, like everyone else, loved her on Bosom Buddies and Babes. I loved the bustiers she wore on that Fox tv show. they were gr8 and i always wtd one. I recall she was on a CBS sitcom called Hearts Afire w/ the late John Ritter, Markie Post and Billy Bob Thornton. But she was a smaller size. Indeed it was her, but it was sorta jarring for me. She wasn't as naturally funny and bubbly on it to me. Perhaps its how her part was written.

Anyway, she'll be missed.
