So one of my first nights here, I was in my bed and I heard a lady's voice when I was half asleep, she said "hello there", it just kind of startled me but wasn't scary. One of my roommates, come to find out, heard the same type of voice in her room. It was just like polite. Then the other night my other roommate and I go to bed. I couldn't sleep because my apt is really dry and I'm sick, so I'm just kind of laying there and I hear a bang! I go out to look around and go into our kitchen and the garbage top is across the room by the sink, like it had been thrown off! Other little minor things have happened too We're kind of scared, it is an old building in city so I guess it is possible it is haunted....... anybody else have any ghostly encounters??

I've heard that some ghosts can be quite friendly and benign. If it doesn't cause you any bad times, enjoy the unique experience. If it starts to appear you have an evil spririt around, look for a new place or see if you can get a paranormal expert involved. I know it sounds a little kooky, but I do believe in ghosts, and that some places are haunted.

She's just hanging out and means no harm to you. She's probably just clumsy and it was an accident. Is there a shelf or a painting hanging over your trash can? Maybe she was trying to get a look at something up there. Either that or you guys are slobs and some fermenting food in the waste basket popped the lid.

Are there any critters in your apartment? Also in cold weather, some noises do occur with the change in temperature and with the age of the apartment, possibly.

Get yourself a humidifier or boil some water to rid some of the dryness. Be careful if you consistently do this and watch out for mold growth, though later on. Wear plenty of chapstick, lotion also (gotta protect your lips and skin)

Oh yeah, make sure that you are drinking plenty of orange juice. hehehe :-)

No ghostly encouters for me, yet.

My Mom's home in Arkansas had odd sounds on a nightly basis. I sure couldn't figure it out, but I tried to reassure her that it might've been the house settling in or the weather changes. It can get to be quite spooky sometimes.

If I stay late at work (like last night), our wood floor in the back makes loud pops and bangs, but it's just the huge old building and the temperature.

But last night, it sounded like someone walking around. I knew it wasn't, so I didn't get scared, but I did look up a few times.

Hmm... I can't say I've had any encounters with ghosts, nor can I say that I believe in them in the traditional sense (I don't believe in the left-behind spirits of the dead, but am a firm believer in the supernatural). I have, however, heard voices and stuff like that. In fact, I drank blood from a school water fountain once. However, I immediately recognized that it was all in my mind and specifically saught conditions that would trigger such reactions so I could face them, and not long after they stopped. I'll add that while I did hear just one voice, it was not directed at me and its words were indecypherable.

That is not to say that in this case it's all in your head, and the fact that your roommate experienced it too supports otherwise. I'd say no, not a ghost, but not necessarily nothing. Not that I exactly have an expert opinion on the matter.

My sister worked in a really old mansion that was turned into a restaurant. It was haunted by the woman that used to own it.

She would do things like move toy trains around it's tracks. Just so people know, this was not an electric train set. There was also different kinds of music she hated and if people would play them they would see the stop button being pushed down by itself on the tape player. Go over and turn it back on and the stop button would push itself again.

Also, when the woman was alive she loved horses and always wore her riding boots. You could still hear her riding boots clicking on the floor as she walked around the mansion. Most of the other women that worked there refused to work late at night or go into rooms she was known to be most active. My sister thought it was cool and would work late nights whenever she got the chance.

Here's a quick link I could find. Scroll down to "Monroe - Idle Hour mansion"

My sister loved to go to the "Widows Walk."

All the dead people I've met have been either family or friends. They don't hurt me, but they will play jokes on me.

Carry medicine with you to help out. You get it by going somewhere wonderful, having a spiritual experience, and then returning changed. For me, it was Bead Mountain, Texas where I got my medicine. I saw an eagle fly as I reached the summit at sundown.

In my experience, the dead are pretty much like the living. If you don't want a ghost around, you can tell it to go away. Sometimes it even will do just that.

Other times, however...well, people are people no matter what plane they exist on.

Not at all. I'm serious. I can't repeat the experiences reliably, so there's no scientific-style proof, but I know what I've experienced.

When I climbed Bead Mountain, I had a chance to receive a communication from some dead people very close to me. The eagle taking off when I reached the peak was the signal to me the communication was about to happen.

I've got no way to measure that activity, but I know it's there. Not all the time, but from time to time. It's not schizophrenia because there's a reason behind the communication with the dead. It's not random. There's a purpose.

Oh! Woops…I misunderstood your post. The schizophrenia and the sloppy were alluding to what I read in other replies before yours. When I got to yours I took it as you were saying: “ you need to get medicine and you can get it by going to some wonderful”, meaning your crazy and “Bear Mountain” being the name of a psychiatric place. I’ll be honest with you, half your posts fly right over my head, but when I do understand what you mean, they’re always funny :) So that being said, sorry :)

Heh. Point taken. I meant "medicine" in a North American Native context.

I reallly believe there's something to the legends and practices of millenia-old cultures, especially in areas those cultures used to flourish.

The Old Magic was not weak. It cannot be killed by freeways.

I agree with Seth! With the paranormal experiences I have encountered, it seems that ghosts are just like us and often if there is something new or new people going on.........ghostly activity occurs. I believe they want to be a part of the fun also and not miss anything!

Just my own two cents,
Kara

You could get a Ouija board and see what they want.

You can get a glow in the dark one at Toys R Us. I mean, come on! It's not just a Ouija board and it doesn't just glow in the dark. Dude, It's a Ouija board that glows in the dark! It's worth getting it just for that. It is a lot smaller than the older ones though. But they don't glow in the dark.
