I normally get pizza at a local pizza shop not a chain shop, but last night I got a large pizza from a new Dominoes shop and well first it was a medium size and second it was crap. The I saw a episode of the Simpsons and the chief of police Wiggum was on the side of the road in a police car with Lou and they hear a sound of what they belive to be a motor bike gang, "oh no we will have to do something" say Wiggum, "Quick pretend we are a pizza delivery car" with that he puts a pizza delivery sign on the top of the car to cover the police lights, but Lou says "hey chief what if they like pizza", the chief replies "Well ahead of you, Lou" and he but the Dominoes logo on the side of the car door, well did I laugh if I had not just had one the joke would have gone in one ear and out the other, man the Simpsons is their anything they don't know?

How funny that you would post this. There is now a Dominos in my area and I've been getting coupons for their stuff in the mail. The last I remember their pizza was horrible. I've never tried any of their other stuff like Buffalo wings or bread sticks but I hear that stuff isn't anything to write home about either.

In general I am very picky about pizza. Usually I will order other stuff from a local pizza delivery joint and have them add a slice of their pizza to the mix to see how it measures up. I feel I can confidently say that there is no good pizza where I live. The steak and cheese subs are pretty good though. :D

The reason Domino's and Pizza hut* are popular is because of the price. I am innudated with advertisments stating how cheap they are! I'm lucky enough to grow up with great pizza although since I've moved up to the Bronx, I've had trouble finding pizza as good as some of the places on Staten Island.

I'm very fussy about sauce. Anything that is too sweet gets a blech from me and I will not finish the slice. Often there is too much cheese.

*I like pizza hut's thick crust but that's my dirty little secret.

Little Caesar's. Five bucks for a large cheese or pepperoni. Already made, ready to go.

Quick, dirty, and beats the hell outta Domino's.

But I'll take Domino's ahead of Pizza Hut any day. PH is the greasiest pizza, ever.

i LOVE dominos, and will only eat dominos.

It's not cheap at all here. It's like £12 for a large which I assume is about $22

I guess it's because they have to make them here in the States and then ship 'em overnight to pommyland.

And, in spite of EU import tariffs, they're still cheaper than imported Italian pizzas.

Im not a huge fan of pizza but from time to time I get a craving. I like the local guys pizza they make it nice and thin crusted the way I like it. not to much cheese, just enough. However IF I do get Dominoes I like the Bacon Chedder Burger THIN crust and of course I need ranch dressing dipping sauce. I dont eat Pizza hut at all the sauce is too sweet.

HUMM now I want pizza

hahahahaha. Oh, sorry. You were serious!! :D

I guess the concept of "too much cheese" is foreign to me.

I tend to "deconstruct" my pizza. I take a bite or two of the slice before I just pull off the cheese and toppings and eat them by themselves. Then I reach for another slice.

That way I can eat LOTS of slices :p

I'm with you, there can never be too much cheese. I cooked a frozen pizza last night and doctored it up like I always do, but didn't realize the bag of mozzerella I grabbed was a 3 cup bag not the smaller one and I put the entire bag of cheese on that pizza. Talk about your cheeeesy pizza! It was good tho:eat2:

Lilly the fact us in this world is that we have lost the meaning of food, food is to be enjoyed the eating should be a experience of delight, the fact is that eating at most fast food places is that it is not eating in the true meaning it is food absorption and not much more, I cook for myself 80 per cent of the time, so anyway I think you must have reasonable taste as to feel the same way about those things Dominos call pizza.

Well if that stuff costs that much then I understand, a real pizza would cost £400, how do english people get so fat if food is so darn expensive, I felt it was to costly in Australia, I can get a Dominos pizza for $8.50 Australia dollars or about £4, hell you lot are being ripped off big time.

My only Domino's experience was going to two different places one time each, in Buffalo NY, fifteen years apart and I must say both were just about the worst I ever had. It's very hard to ruin pizza but they did. (More power to CurvyEm tho and her UK pizza experiences.) :)

OK, pizza that was WORSE than those Domino's?

My elementary school cafeteria's "pizza": a second class, somewhat stale English muffin with a sliver of margarine on it, a small square of partially melted American cheese and a shot of either ketchup or generic tomato sauce. It blew my mind that it could even be called pizza but this was Long Island in 1964.

And honorable mention goes to places that really weren't pizza places anyway, more like corner stores, that would have a pizza or loose slices obtained from elsewhere on display in a clear plastic or glass case, sometimes rotating, with a red or green light on it to keep it warm. The slices were leathery at best and eating them felt almost bookish.

The quality of pizza can vary widely in the same chain. Generally for most of the country, pizza made on the night shift is going to be worse than the pizza made during the day shift.

A comment about Pizza Hut, only the pan pizzas tend to be really greasy. I'm a lover of the thin crust and, done right, the PH Thin Crust is the best.

For a great pizza, I tend to go to places that have a "brick oven". These usually cost more, but the quality is usually more so. (I said tend, because sometimes, I just gotta have a large pizza with everything NOW!)

Brick oven pizzas scare me. I find more often than not the pizza made in a brick oven burns the crust to a particle board like texture. There is no way to polish of a slice of pizza like that without being left with a mouth full of stinging scrapes and lacerations from the crust and the acidic sauce. When eating becomes torture the food isn't good. That's not true of all brick oven places. I suppose it varies even in the same chains, but I still fear the brick oven experience.

There's a place kind of local to me, Woodstock's Pizza (http://www.woodstocksslo.com/pg/AboutUs.htm), that uses a brick oven and nice, fragrant wood. The crust isn't burned or too crispy at all, and it's delicious.

Yeah, done right, the brick oven pizza is heaven.

The brick oven calzone is celestial.

Has anyone ever heard of St. Louis Style pizza? I doubt it as when I lived in NJ and Chicago, no pizza place ever had anything called this, but all around St. Louis you can get pizza with a cracker thin (about 1/8") crust and provel cheese (sometimes a blend of provel and other cheeses), always cut into squares. This is my favorite kind of pizza. I might live a somewhat sheltered life - does anyone know of something similar available elsewhere?

Here's a photo, compliments of Wikipedia of Imo's - one of the best St. Louis style pizzerias out there - or well, in St. Louis anyway :)

There's a place like that here in Dallas, but I like the Chicago-style better. I DO love the provolone cheese, though. It's one of the underappreciated cheeses of the world. Smoked provolone... mmmmmm!:eat2:

In DC, a tiny restaurant in Adams Morgan sells an "Egyptian-style" pizza with feta, olives, eggplant, spices, and an abundance of jalapeno peppers -- fiery hot but magnificently good.

And I always hear good things about pizza at the Mellow Mushroom (a SE chain), but I'm too in love with their tofu and tempeh sandwiches to get anything else. If you're up for an adventure at MM, try the tofu hoagie. Imagine a crusty whole wheat roll spread with a little mayo, piled with grilled peppers and onions, and topped with tofu chunks (marinated in teriyaki sauce and lightly charred with a bouncy-silky interior). For perfection, get extra sprouts and ask for a side of pesto.

My Atlanta choice for creative pizza? Savage Pizza in Little Five Points.

Ahhh we love the tofu/tempeh there. We usually get a whole tempeh hoagie and a personal pizza and share. Those sandwiches are fantastic!

Dominoes, Pizza Hut, Poppa John's..ICK!!! OK, I admit it, I'm a pizza snob. I grew up in Brooklyn, home of the very best pizza in NYC, and grew up in Manhattan chowing down on Famous Ray's and Ray Bari's. That said, there are small, independant places from time to time that make terrific pizza..none of them are chains, though Bertucci's isn't bad. Dominos crap makes cardboard sound good. :eat1:

I think that Dominos has horrendous pizza but, their cheesy bread and garlic sticks make up for it! I have bought both and finished them the same night. Very chewy and yummy! :eat1:
