View Full Version : Queen Latifah Launches Clothing Line For Curvy Women
"Queen Latifah’s Curvation lingerie line has branched out with a full line of ready to wear, just in time for Spring.
“The line is all kinds of things to make a woman feel sexy,” says Latifah, whose stylist Susan Moses is also the creative director for the line. “We wanted to do what was trendy and on the edge.” And though she says she “was never a size six—not since I was 12,” Latifah knows the key to looking good is feeling good. “She has to be sexy and comfortable,” says Moses of Latifah’s “approachable glam” style.
Curvation’s Spring Line features lots of silks and jerseys that “silhouette the body instead of trying to hide women’s’ curves,” explains Moses. Latifah’s take? “I’d walk down the red carpet in that.”shopcurvation.com."

Many cute tops, but not so much too choose from though. Maybe they will expand their clothing line later? :D

This is all well and good Latifah, but if you're going to be all radical about having plus sizes, make your stuff in something over a size 22. Also consider either creating an additional lower-priced line, or scaling those prices down ($60 for a hooded tee? Um, no). You're not the type of celeb that will have people paying for your name alone, imo. "Limited edition signed and numbered"... oh, get over yourself already. Just because you've been nominated for an oscar doesn't mean you should forget your less-than-wealthy roots.

Good for Queen! I think it's a step in the right direction! Also, in the world of fashion, this would be considered a lower priced line - usually, a designer will produce a high end line for those that can afford it and then scale down to make it more accessible to the rest of the public a la Isaac Mizarahi.
I didn't really see anything that I'd purchase, but I commend her effort.
Haha! you are talkin' like i am actually latifah/the responsible her :p
Ok,maybe the sizes should be bigger. But why do all plus size clothing have to be cheap?. Most of the clothes i got cost 1/3 of what my skinny friends are wearing. If i find something i really like, i would be more than willing to pay the extra costs.(with that said, i don't think this clothing line really is worth it ;)). Most of my wardrobe contains of cheap clothes and expensive accessories...I wish we had more exclusive plus size stores where i live.

I couldn't agree more - there is a HUGE misconception that fat women are cheap (in fact, there was a thread somewhere on Dim's a while back on this), that we don't take care of ourselves, etc. I love a good deal like any other woman, but sometimes you get what you pay for. I am more than willing to invest in a great coat because I know it will last for seasons, the same goes for trousers. I am a quality vs. quantity type woman - I would rather have a couple of pairs of jeans that fit my ass perfectly than a bunch of mediocre pairs. I guess it's about personal preference and what a person is willing to spend money on - I have a good friend that will shell out hundreds of dollars for high end shoes, but won't even think about doing the same for clothes. What gives?
Oh and have you thought about ordering on-line? There are a couple of great plus size designers that I've bought from:
www.svobodastyle.com/
www.monifc.com/
www.trentacosta.com/ - his website is fairly new so there's only a couple things on it, but he'll be adding more stuff for spring/summer

i will check them out, thanks:D

I know you're not responsible for Latifah ;)
I don't mind paying good money for expensive clothes (when you've become more accustomed to the board, you'll see how much money I spend, cuz I post about my purchases a LOT, lol), but I agree, this line doesn't seem worth it, and in my opinion, Latifah's name isn't worth the extra cost either.
There are some fairly pricey plus sized lines offering some good quality - try shopping at Nordstrom's (http://shop.nordstrom.com/C/6007059/0~2376776~2374327~6007059?mediumthumbnail=Y&origin=leftnav&pbo=6007135) or Neiman Marcus (http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/catalog/template/catC8.jhtml;jsessionid=H0GMDEXX1E2EOCQAAKHRABI?ite mId=cat000116&parentId=cat3650732&masterId=cat000111&cmCat=).
wow, i love the clothes! (especially svobodastyle:wubu:)
I didn't even know stores like that existed:confused: It's my birthday soon so maybe i will purchase something. I am so sick of my boring/average wardrobe with clothes that always last less than a year..

I saw some beautiful things that I'd like to buy, if only I had the dosh! Gotta start saving...
Perhaps we ought to petition Her Majesty to carry the line in larger sizes...?

Her clothes are too small. Sigh. Only up to a size 22. I hope she'll start making her stuff larger. I thought plus shops selling belts for $20 something was alot of money but she's seliing a belt for $54.99. Guess I'd have to be rich & smaller lol...

The sizing seems to run larger than typical sizing. It looks like I could wear items that are marked three sizes smaller than what I usually wear.

But yeah, the stuff is too expensive for what it is.

Eh. I figure it's all good, in the end, but I get tired of every new celebrity corporate endeavor, esp if they're a whoppin size 20 or whatever, being treated as second coming in PR copy. Department stores have been carrying up to 24/26 for years...why is this such a coup? I'm not a hater, I love Queen Latifah, but it seems like not very big deal that they'd carry bras up to 44. ? There isn't one thing here I could buy, methinks.
I just repeated everything everybody said! Sorry.
However, if Latifah wants to sell big girl versions of her "Ladies First" video outfit, I'd buy that! Hah. Maybe. Or the custom-made corset in Chicago. :) (definitely)

I'm miffed. I got all excited at the site, like, "ooh, clothing. Wonder if I'll like any..."
A 22?
Seriously?
Come ON.

I kinda got excited, and while I may fit in the size 22 (MAYBE), I'm not thrilled about the design...as well as providing bigger sizes, if you're going to open up shop selling plus size clothing, do something a little different! I'm sure the clothes are well made and everything, but it seems like the conservative plus size clothing market is already saturated enough...everything I saw on that site is similar to something i've already seen at Macys, Nordstroms, or Lane Bryant.

Not around her, i'm afraid. And i have problems finding clothes sized 18- 20:rolleyes: .I kinda like fashion:p , and it's not much to choose from. But these links helped a lot! I was happy when i found "the queen" but these linkes are so much better!. Hmm..the shipping costs is/are (???hehe!!) a nightmare though :(
Is my english understandable btw? :p
