I really love it that we can use HTML in these posts. It kinda spruces up things, dontcha think?

One question, however. When inserting a URL link, we're not given the option to use just a couple of words to describe it. In my last post, for instance, this is what appeared: "Here's the direct link for anybody else who'd like to take advantage of this great find: http://www.jms.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce...nbr=3081000000."

It would have looked so much better if I could have made this lengthy URL invisible behind the words "direct link." I tried using regular HTML code to accomplish that, but it didn't work. I suspect that's because this forum has its own special code. I know it's possible to do it, however, because it's available on other boards of this type.

I know this is just a tiny issue, but if you think of it next time you're tinkering around behind the scenes, making things better for us heathens, I, for one, would love to see that changed. Thanks, Conrad! :o ~Bountifully, Foosh

This fourm uses both standard html and also an abbreviated form that uses those square brackets. I was under the impression that if you use the link icon above the edit box you'll be prompted for the text of the link and then the URL. The actual URL would then be invisible. Alternately, you can code HTML or abbreviated HTML directly into the text. It is conceivable that some of the HTML options need to be fine-tuned.

The way I've seen it elsewhere is that it first gives you the opportunity to write in the text, and after you type it in (or not) and click okay, it opens up to a box to type in the URL. On DIM's, it gives you only the latter. Trust me, I tried it.Bountifully, Foosh

You're right. I'll see if I can figure out why that is.

to easily link a website

[ url = " www. enter domain name here .com " ] enter the text you want to appear here [ /url ]

obviously, without spaces.

Liz...

Here is the way to fix your problem (using my hairsticks as an example):

[*url=http://stores.ebay.com/designs-by-Sandie_HairStyx-beaded-hair-sticks]See my beautiful HairStyx on Ebay![/url]

If you type the above leaving out the asterisk before url, it will show up like this:

See my beautiful HairStyx on Ebay! (http://stores.ebay.com/designs-by-Sandie_HairStyx-beaded-hair-sticks)

PM me if you have a probem, and I can walk you thru it.

Sandie

Until Conrad gets that fixed (I know it's available to him, if he can find it), I'll try your recommendations. I fiddled with it in regular HTML code, and even tried conforming it to what this program is using, but to no avail.~Bountifully, Fuchsia

What Sandie recommends is currently the way to go. You enter the URL when prompted, then edit the code it generates. I'm still not sure why it doesn't simply bring up the text prompt. Probably a lil' tiny checkbox somewhere in the bowels of vBulletin.
