Because my inbox has been getting so full, and Conrad had informed me that I could check for new posts above under "New Posts," I decided to opt for no e-mail notification of posts to threads I started or to which I responded. However, although I made the change earlier this evening, I'm still getting those e-mail notifications, even 'though I clicked on "Save Changes."

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!~Bountifully, Fuchsia

Probably what's happened is that what you changed was only the "default" setting. I'll bet you'll have to run around unsubscribing yourself to the threads you've already started or participated in.

And on that note, go to your control panel and select the "List Subscriptions" item under the "Subscribed Threads" section on the left. You should find a list of all the threads you're presently subscribed to, as well as the buttons to unsubscribe yourself.

You mean your email inbox I suppose, and not your Forum PM mailbox. If so, then what HeXetic says is true. You continued getting notifications from threads that you were already subscribed to.

Personally, I really like the email subscription feature. vBulletin boards are large and have many threads, and it is easily possible to forget where one posted. Getting the email notifications are a great way to get responses and links to get you to the right thread with just one click.

I just posted a few replies in some threads and discovered that at the bottom of the post, before you submit it, you have the option to choose the type of notification you want (or don't want, in my case). Thus, I've been selecting "no e-mail notification." And, yes, Conrad, I meant my e-mail inbox.

Your answers lead me to another question I've had since the get go. What exactly does "subscription" mean? Why can't I refuse e-mail notification, yet still remain subscribed to a thread. Sometimes I feel like such a dunce about these things, but I don't see an explanation of "subscription." Do I have to turn that off in order not to receive e-mail notifications? Thanks for your help!~Bountifully, Fuchsia

I have another question. I've noticed the strangest phenomenon. When I go to read a thread or something new in a thread, I often don't get the entire thread. Instead of going over to a second or third page, it just stops, and I discover by looking at the list of posts in the box above the thread that there are further posts. If I click on one of them, especially when it says something like "More posts under these," I'll get the rest of them.

Any explanation for this? Some of these posts wind up being important to me (and probably others), and I'd hate to miss any of them. Also, it'd be a shame if people were posting and hardly anybody was seeing their post.~Bountifully, Fuchsia

Subscription to a thread = automatic e-mail notification of new posts in a thread, either as a daily or weekly summary or instantaneous notification. Subscription without notification is basically just a way of tracking the threads you've replied in (largely useless, unless you plan on fiddling with the notification settings later). Notice that when you make a reply, the drop-down box where you pick what kind of notification you get is called "Thread Subscription".

Unsubscribe yourself and the e-mails will stop.

On the old boards, we could opt to receive an e-mail notification of responses to our posts, not every single response to a thread to which we've subscribed. I liked that better, as I'd know immediately that I might owe a poster a response, but not have my e-mail inbox deluged with every single post in that thread.

Since the new boards don't allow for that, I'm now trying to remember to take the time to check the no e-mail notification option at the bottom. Then, whenever I come to the boards, I simply check for new posts to see if there's anything new in which I'm interested. It's kind of a pain, 'though, because it means I still wind up checking anything new in that thread just to see if there's been a direct response to my post(s) in that thread. But at least I no longer have to delete a bunch of e-mail notifications in my inbox.

I prefer to stay subscribed to the threads in which I post, however, because every now and then I want to quote something, and it's quicker to find it when they're conveniently listed in my User CP.~Bountifully, Fuchsia
