SVS - you are the Mod here right?? :)

Well I've been browsing here and noticed a lot of people lamenting foods they miss from other parts of the country. Well how about starting a *Food Exchange * thread here?? If someone is looking for something - they post it (Like I would kill for a NY Bagel) and whoever is willing to ship it to them can then ask them to send something their way. A fair exchange.

What do you think?

Cool idea! I'm more than willing to do something like that.

I think it's a fun idea (as long as people are careful).

As for me, I am a lazy fat girl - I don't like going to the post office. :p

But I wouldn't hesitate to call businesses and ask them to ship me some local goodies (I've been known to do that).

All the wild food I want to eat is in southeast asia... and it doesn't travel well, even when overnighted.

I despair of ever eating cashew tree fruit. Not the nut, the fruit...

I despair of ever eating cashew tree fruit. Not the nut, the fruit...Oh, wow, funny you should mention that, Flo. My weekend aide hails from Trinidad, and it's very difficult to figure out what to buy her as gifts.

The first year she was with me, she mentioned how much she and her siblings loved to eat the cashew fruit when they were kids. Soooo, I went crazy trying to find some for her. Even wound up e-chatting with a guy from Trinidad who'd set up an informative website about Trinidad, and discovered that it's not really something you can buy.

Upon querying my aide after the gift occasion, she told me you can mainly only get them after they've fallen from the cashew trees (never realized before that they grow on trees, but upon retrospect, it makes sense) over just a very short period...something like a only a few days, if memory serves.

If you ever find them for purchase, please let me know, as I'd love to get some for her. She's a gem, and deserves anything I can do for her in return for all that she does for me.~Bountifully, Foosh

I think it's a great idea, though the only thing people would prolly want from my area is fresh pistachios right off the tree.
