Once you're settled in, let's organize a trip to a fun pool hall, okay, Ash? I suck, but it's fun, so who the hell cares.

Ashley

Yes!! I suck, too. Really, really badly. But I still love it!

Hey, cool, Chip is in!

As for the other hundred something timid people who've viewed this thread and not commented, all I can say is stop lurking and say hi! We don't bite, I swear. Well, Ashley does, but she's had her shots, so it's all good.

(I'll bring a spray bottle, too, in case the leg humping gets out of hand.)

How's the new jobboru going? I've been flying under the radar, but I did mean to ask.....

ha ha, there actually was a guy outside my metro stop last week playing a banjo.

Anyhoo, so when are we going to set a date for a DC Dims meet-up? A Fat Fall Fest in the Nation's Capital? Or maybe a seafood buffett along the waterfront in MD? Or pool in Adams Morgan? Let's throw out some dates, ya'll.

Well, it's getting a little chilly for the pool, but what about the second weekend in Nov? Or the last weekend in October? I think we should all get together and force some bar to play my DVD of Hot Fuzz (I'm just saying this to get Carrie's attention....but it IS a kickass movie).

We could look like major dorks and Segway tour DC

We could crack crabs in Annapolis.

We could experience culture or nature or history. Hmm, the Nat'l Gallery has their Edward Hopper exhibit....

dude i'd like to go on record as saying FUCK SEGWAY TOURS. im the guy that darts in between them like im in a hurry...im NEVER in a hurry. but a museum would be a good idea...im definitely down. oh check it out...who's down for a hot dog eating contest on the mall? im talkin picnic-style all-out hot dog WAR! i just really like having the mall there...i dont take it for granted...it's a great place to just stroll and relax. im up for anything, though...cept those God-forsaken segways.

*DISCLAIMER* if we're walking and i hide behind you all of a sudden, it's not cuz im hiding from the cop. it's cuz im hiding from the horse he's riding on. they terrify me.

I'm very much still hoping that we can all get together on a weekend (or weekend day) in Baltimore in the spring. I've never been, though I see it from the train and I love one of its native sons, and there seem to be a lot of you in that area. Please don't make me sit in a hotel room alone. That would stink. I'd be so sad.

If anyone has some hotel ideas (and it'd be nice if they were in the city, just in terms of hopping a cab or bus or whatnot to actually SEE some sites) that'd be good. People usually want a pool. I'm assuming that those of us training it will be able to get a ride from someone (a pick up, I mean). That's what i'm counting on at least.

If I end up coming to the city and sight seeing on my own, that's ok too. We can all have a meal, maybe some pool time and a pillowfight with drinkies and skivvies and all around bad behavior.

I know I'm stealing the thread, so I'll ask people to email me if they know of area hotels.

oooh yah? I don't think I knew that's where ye moved to (exactly). Orange line!

I don't know if they *still* make them, but they were a Gifford's trad when I was a kid. Little molded ice cream cakes...yum :). Somehow much yummier than a big cake, because you got your own (you know?)

Figured I better say hello. Annapolis area for me!

And I didn't know you were from there...interestin! I know that area pretty well too, since me dad went to the academy. It must be an interesting place to live right now, eh? I mean, like...this week.

Guess it's obvious I miss the MidAtlantic area a bit. Balmir too, although I visit there more often. Anyhow, love from Chi--

We have 4 pages of people from the area, and no meet up yet? Is that crazy or what?

OK, I'm going to push us all a little bit outside our comfort zone-

if you really want to meet up, then post here a weekend you're available and a location you'd be willing to travel to in the DC/MD/VA area, and we'll see if we can figure something out TOGETHER. I won't be spearheading anything, people, so if you want a meet up, you have to commit to actually helping to pick the where and the when, ok?

Weekend-

3/8-9
or
3/29-30 work for me.

Location-

Well, DC does seem the logical middle point for DC/MD/VA, but maybe an inner suburb of DC is easier? Maybe somewhere like Silver Spring or Arlington?

OK, your turn, if you want a meet-up.

How did Water Day work out, Ashley?

I suggest a great American sporting event! What about a Saturday baseball game? You can bring your own food to the park (picnic in the seats!), you're out in the fresh air, and let's face it, it's baseball. You really only have to pay attention for 3 out of every 10 or 15 seconds anyway, or not at all if you don't want to.

I have several friends in the ticket office who can ensure we get good seats all together.......

Hey guys..
I'm currently here in Texas... but I am soooo looking into moving. Sooo..being said that, I'm thinking about moving to Richmond, Virginia within the next week! I've lived all my life here in Houston, and I love it. But I feel I need to leave to try different places/airs I guess.. and independantize (sp)? myself. I'm scared but excited at the same time. Though, I'm wondering if thats the right choice. I'm scared of not being able to find a job in Virginia, atleast a good job. Right now, Houston has a lot of job openings and opportunities and its being rated as one of the best cities to live at the moment... but I still wanna leave!
I'm also scared that I will maybe suffer more discrimination? Being that I live in a big city now where theres lots of big people, I dont feel I suffer discrimination at all here.. but I dont know how it will be up there.
I guess I should just do it, stop worrying, and hope for the best!

I am one of the few native Northern Virginian's around...I am in Burke right now.

I guess that's all I have to say!! :D

Okay people. Let's get this show on the road. We have the following weekend options. If you have a date preference, post about it here!

September 20 or 21
September 27 or 28
October 4 or 5 (I know at least 2 of us in the area will be attending the NJ Bash this weekend, so this one is probably out.)
October 11 or 12
October 18 or 19

We also need suggestions for places to go and fun things to do. It's probably easier and more central for everyone if we go for places IN DC that are Metro accessible.

So what should it be? Lunch somewhere and then goofing off at a bar? Watching me badly play pool? Fattie drum circle on the Mall?

(Act now before I blow out of the area and you're left with one less person to help you all be unorganized! ;))

I vote last weekend in September with a start at Ben's Chili Bowl. Then move to a bar with pool and college football? Or just college football?

Or we could go give Ashley's dog a bath.

i vote the last weekend in september. moderate fatty takeover of the national mall just for the weather and photo ops. dinner at a place with a nice relaxed atmosphere, and cocktails at a bar with easy access to safe rides home for everyone.

yes, i live in ohio and i voted anyways.

Old Ebbitt is kinda nice yet casual, with a huge bar. We'd need a solid head count for reservations.....and it's close to the WH and about three blocks from the Mall and close to the Metro.....

Or I could not say any of the above and leave it in the capable hands of people are far better planners than I. I'm not ashamed of being an Indian instead of a chief. But if called on, I'll help.

I want to come, but for the next few weeks I'll only be able to handle it if there's not more than, say, 3 blocks worth of walking for any one phase of getting around. Also, I'm sure Bob has already thought of this, but we need to make sure anywhere we go is SSBBW-friendly (armless chairs [barstools don't count. lol], preferably not hard wooden ones).

I understand if the majority wants to do something that doesn't fall within these guidelines, but I would like to attend if possible. :)

Bob, are you sure that a dozen fat asses are going to be able to get seats at Ben's on a Saturday afternoon?

If Soup and BBMe will be in town, then this needs to happen!

As far as places to dine/drink, maybe Chinatown? There are so many places to choose from right on the block of the metro stop. I'd vote for Fado, but I can't remember what their chairs are like. Some Shepherd's Pie and a pint of Murphy's Irish Stout, what more do we need?

TCUBOB
09-11-2008, 03:09 PM
Old Ebbitt can probably handle fatties in their atrium seating.....Ben's on a Sat. afternoon may not be that bad.....Fado's seating I can't remember......and Metro/taxis are plentiful, those less affordable depending on your POV.

Damn you, Senator Carl Levin!!!!! Damn you and your moronic Michiganders who couldn't figure out the zone system!!!!!

(also, while walking is wonderful, Bob doesn't want to re-enact the Bataan Death March either, and knows that different distances for different folks equal that)

The seating is the tough one, though. Ben's works, if it's not crowded. Ebbitt works, I think. But if we get an idea of when/where/how many we can move from there.

Oh! Hey! What about going on the DC Ducks tour? I've been here 11 years and never done that!

I'm in negotiations to bring a visitor to this shindig if we do it in mid-October. I figure if I can't get you guys to come out and hang with me, you might be enticed by a secret guest...

Also, yay for new people who want to come out and play!
