In Memoriam: Lucinda aka "LupeLulu"

It is with great sadness that I share the news of the sudden passing of my friend, Lucinda Dantas.

Lucinda had just given birth to a baby girl, Lena, who was delivered by c-section last week when Lucinda was 7 months along. She had some complications with the pregnancy, so they took the baby early. Lena was born weighing just 3.5 lbs. (But last I heard is doing fine.)

I understand Lucinda was ok after the birth, and went home from the hospital to her boyfriend, Donovan, who is Lena's daddy. Lucinda got her stiches out last Thursday. Over the weekend she didn't feel well, went back to the hospital where she passed away on Monday. We're not sure if it was from an infection from the incision, or some other cause.

I know she occasionally chatted in DimChat, so I thought some of you might have known her. She was also very active in mIRC in the Supersize BBW channel, and she attended some of the BBW bashes.

Lucinda used to live in NJ, and moved to Florida a few years ago. She was an incredibly sweet and loving person. She will be missed. :(

It's a sad story. I know her from the Supersize BBW channel since 2000 and met her on Dim Chat occasionally and that is a long time for chat friends. She was always a nice and optimistic person.

I can't even really believe this is true, I'm so stunned. I didn't even know she was pregnant!
Obviously I did not know Lucinda very well at all, but she and I always had a great time bantering back and forth in Dim Chat. She was so fun-loving and chipper all the time, and lit up the room when she'd enter. I can't imagine what her family and loved ones must be experiencing right now ... this is just so absolutely sad and unfair.
Not that it can bring her back, but I hope they can learn what caused her death, if for no other reason than for her family to have some semblance of closure (I hate that word, but it applies here). I also hope that her little girl thrives and grows to be as happy and loving a person as "Loopy" always seemed to be.
My deepest condolences to Lucinda's family, her boyfriend and those of you in the Dims community who knew her. She will be missed.

I'm so sad to hear this news, what a tragedy. My heart goes out to her family, and in particular her bereaved boyfriend and her motherless baby, it's just too sad for words.

LupeLuLu was in chat some weeks ago and was telling us there about her pregnancy, and how happy she was, it was so nice, and I had been wondering how she was doing. I think she said at the time that she would be naming the baby after her mother, which I thought was very sweet.

I hadn't spoken to Lucinda in a long while... at that point she was stuck in the new house with a husband who didn't appreciate what he had... I suggested she get in touch with the Unitarian-Universalists who are a bright spot in that unhappy city; that didn't seem to go down well with her... glad she found happiness later on, and very saddened by her passing. They have great medical facilities down there but only for the wealthy...:mad:

I didn't know Lupe well although I remember speaking with her from time to time, but I am very sad to hear about her passing. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her loved ones.

I happened to call a friend of mine about 5 minutes after he learned that Lucinda had died. As best I remember, through his tears he said that after the Caesarian her sugars started going crazy and that there may also have been some infection involved. More he did not yet know.

I am shocked to hear of Lucinda's passing.I knew her not only in Dimchat but also in BBW-Supersize on IRC.I had the pleasure to meet her at the Philly Bash back in 1999.At the time she was walking with a cane because she had fallen & damaged her hip.She was not only a big beautiful woman outside but also inside.She was always pleasant to be around or talk to no matter how things were in her life.She will be greatly missed.My sympathies & good vibes go out to her family,her BF & to the beautiful daughter she left behind.May little Lena grow to be a shining example of what her Momma was.

i feel exactly the same. i'm sure a lot of us are in the same boat. maybe we didn't know her well but she brought her own sweet positivity when she came to chat. its really priceless to have someone who brightens your day like that. i know that her family and friends will recieve all of the good karma she left behind.

She was a wonderful person we will all be missing. I knew her many years from numerous BBW events when she was in NJ. I will miss her sweet, kind and fun personality. My prayers go out to all who's live she touched and for those left behind I wish them peace.
