For those of you that have had the lap band surgery done, do you find that you still get really hungry? I was at a seminar and that was mentioned, so wondering if its true?

Ella I rarely feel hungry. I sometimes do, but not often. I never feel ravenously hungry like I used to pre band. I sometimes have to remind myself to eat.
The technology of the Lap Band is actually quite amazing, because when it is placed correctly, it actually presses on one of the nerves ( Vargas nerve) that regulate hunger signals from the brain.

If the band is placed correctly and monitored, and filled correctly, and the patient is compliant, the weight loss outcomes can be excellant. That is not to say that the actual band never fails, it could be faulty. That is thankfully not generally the case now though, as the newest bands are very advanced and have a low rate of failure associated with them. Nothing is perfect though and a patient should not feel bad if they have complications. The band can be removed at any time and replaced, or not.
I am not promoting the Lap band here, only trying to answer the question of a fellow Dimmer.
Hope this helps.

I had my lap bnand done more than 13 years ago now. Ive never had an adjustment and as you can see the weight creeps up on you over the years.

There are a few things Id like to mention that happened with me. Getting this will change your eating habits and for the good. I was never a huge sweets eater. I liked my real food and now I cant really enjoy them even after all these years. Boneless skinless chicken breast, steak, anything dense and fiber ful is very hard for me to eat. HOwever, hamburger, mashed potatos, sweets, and well basically things that are not typically good for you.

Its has been 13 years and there is still not a day that i dont throw up at some point during the day.

Oh and yes I do still get hungry, My stomach will growl and everything. But be careful when you are that hungry, you wont be able to get much down and because you are really hungry you will eat faster and swallow quicker and that can hurt and it can lead to purging cause things wont fit.

Ok thats enough of my 2 cents.

Berna,

I am sorry to hear you are going through this.Do you think you might have your band removed at some stage? There is always that option if it becomes intolerable for you. You could have your band removed and a newer one inserted, or you could opt to not have one at all.

My band does not have a lot of fill in it.I think a too tight band is problematic.I rarely have problems with food becoming stuck etc, but then certain food I don't even bother to touch anymore.

Berna my best wishes to you, and I hope you have a nice Christmas and a Happy New Year in 2008. :)
