Well, I was at work today thinking about the whole Freecycle concept. I mean, I have a few pairs of jeans (one with tags still on) that I'm never going to get my big butt back into. I'd be willing to give some of this stuff to anyone here that can use it. So I thought that maybe we could start a little trading post here where we can post clothing/fashion items that we have and can't use. Anyone who may be able to use it could send the poster a PM and they could iron out the shipping details and everything. USPS priority isn't too outrageous for most things, so the cost would be minimal.

Okay. Good idea? Bad idea? Any comments at all?

I love this idea! I have clothes I never wear that I would like to give to someone who could use them

I like this idea.. i am losing weight at the moment and have to buy new clothes and will have a nice sized pile of 32's to 34's. I would love to pass on the nicer stuff i have in the larger size (I think i'm on the fast track to a 26/28 woohoo :D )

I have actually been thinking that we shoudl have a swap thread here, so glad you beat me to it! :)

Swapping or trading, should be fine, as long as everyone is clear that you are doing this it at your own risk, and that Dimensions has no responsibility in the outcome of the swap. Be sure that you are swapping with someone you know, and/or be sure to check them out thoroughly before giving out any personal info .

I think the best way to handle this is to post what you have to swap (be sure to put the words "SWAP" in the title), with pics in the post, and then the details can be hashed out via PM.

When you're are done with your swap, then report back (like feedback) so we can all know how it went. That way we can kinda police our own situation.

Does this seem reasonable to all??

I think it's a great idea, Ashley, and Sandie's advice sounds sound to me. In the late summer, I had occasion to clean out drawers and closets, and once again, found a lot of clothing I no longer wear. As usual, I wanted to find someplace where I could donate it. A good place to do that is often women's shelters, where they don't often get the larger sizes. However, Hurricane Katrina hit right around then, so it was a no brainer. After my friend's yard sale, we packed up all of my clothes, her clothes, and her mom's clothes (we're all big gals) that we wanted to donate, and took them to a local church that had a truck waiting to be filled to take down south.

This last bit was a lead-in to another point. This doesn't necessarily have to be a swap. If you have clothing you want to make sure will go to a good home and don't really care if you get something back, I see no reason why that can't be listed here, too. It'd be nice if you could make some kind of swap, but let's face it, that's not always possible or practical. Will you get stuck with those jeans just because nobody has something to trade in your size and/or that you find of interest? Will she spend money on postage unnecessarily, only to have you turn around down the line and offer the same clothing here someone swapped with you?

Also, to keep this subject in mind for future reference, would it make sense to make this thread a sticky, or at least a set of rules for swapping? Hope this is very successful, and that lots of clothes get recycled in this fashion.~Bountifully, Fuchsia

OK everyone...I've posted rules for trading, etc., and made it a sticky. If you have anything to ad, let me know.
