With the new software you can tell just how many posters / regulars we really have. As of now we have 743! On one of my other boards it took 3 years to get that high. I always knew there were lots of people here, but now we can prove it.

If you go to the bottom of the main page you can see these stats. Also, you can see anybody's number by pointing at a link to their profile and looking at the URL - it will end in u=something and the something is the number. (Like point at my avatar and you will see "122".)

Someday all of us with low numbers will be the old farts and we can wave our virtual canes at the newcomers and tell "back in my day we didn't have this nice new software" stories. :D (Even me, I've been around since before the original paysite board went up, I just didn't say much.)

And I think it's interesting that I just checked and there are 110 people currently perusing the boards - 20 members and 90 "guests" (non-members!)

 Holy crap, that's a lot of guests! I think Conrad knows why he always had bandwidth problems now - this place is huge (no pun intended)!

(And I almost typed "bandwitch" there, hahaha)

"Why, back in my day, we had to chisel on a stone tablet to chat with anyone." Sure wish we'd had these new-fangled resources when I was a girl.

Lotsa friendly members, plenty of good topics, and this user-friendly software seems to bring out the best in everyone. I'd say Conrad done good. :)

The stats may say that there are presently 95 "guests" but this may be misleading. I think the "guest" number may include registered members who may just be lurking and haven't formally logged in. Anyone able to confirm whether this is true?

Yeah, a "guest" is just anybody who isn't logged in, whether they can or not. Even so, the total is huge. Most boards I visit only get about 5 people on at a time.

With all these people, I should get busy writing. What an audience.:D My problem is staying on topic. I'm always discussing the discussion or going off on a tangent. (See? Even this post counts!) Must be why nobody's even given me a reputation point yet.

The numbers are indeed gratifying. I did, however, notice that the number of shown registered members and guests currently on the board depends on the timeout default. This morning I set the timeout default from 15 minutes to an hour, and the number of current visitors went up sharply.

And there are some of us old farts that have been around since way back when there was just the hard copy edition of Dimensions magazine...long before the interenet site. Ahhhhh....those were the days!!

The stone Age.

1988

I joined NAAFA (I was 28)

I then joined the FA SIG

I received a pub from the SIG called Dimensions published by the head of the FA SIG - some guy named - um - Conrad? I wonder whatever happened to him. :)

I wish I still had my copies.

One of these guests might have been a teen-age SSBBW who IM'd me last night on AOL asking how I managed to find such a nice guy at my size. She's going through the torments of adolescence and high school in an obese body, so I reassured her that most of her problems are common to everyone and have nothing to do with her size. She said she felt much better reading everyone's experiences (why boys are such jerks etc.) and knowing she's not alone. So chalk one up for this forum boosting some self-confidence a notch or two. Maybe she'll join up when she feels ready. How I wish resources like this were around in the 1970s when I was in high school!

Wooo 667 members and counting. I am so glad people are really digging the new board.

Also to TallFatSue, I totally agree that some of the people that are "guests" are still participating on some level, I have received a huge increase in IMs when I am logged in here and onto my AOL.

I'm in line right in front of you at 121. Though I think I fumbled onto the original boards somewhere around 2002. Back in those days you couldn't upload fancy pictures onto your posts. You had to walk uphill barefoot in the snow, dig a hole and then post the picture way off someplace else. Then you had to climb an even bigger hill to come all the way back carrying the url on your back so you could mark a roadmap back to where you buried the original. And we were grateful. Someone told us this was the way it was done, and that was good enough for us.

175 out of 773. haha! one of the firsts.

i have been coming to Dimensions since 7th grade. dont worry, that was ages ago. im "legal" now. about to be 20, actually. man, time flies.

anyway, what at what rank (1-773) do you think you would no longer be considered "One of the Firsts"?

15? 200? 772?

Actually, you're 221. Just a n00b compared to my almighty leet-ness.:p And not so good at reading numbers either, hehehe. (I wish this board had an "lol" smily.)

Seriously - I do remember when you first showed up on the old boards. And how everybody went  when they discovered you were an opera singer.:D

I'd pick 250 maybe. As a quarter of a thousand, it's a nice round number (and you know how much we like roundness here). Plus, it includes me.

D'oh, you're right about the number. Wishful thinking on my part. I should have known something was amiss because I didn't really sign on the dotted line here till days later. I remained a lurker for a while just to see what became of everyone else first. :D Nevertheless, I humbly bow and acknowledge your almighty eliteness. ;)

You are number 209. When I point my mouse over your avatar, a long link url appears someplace on the bottom of my screen. At the end of that url is a number and that number indicates your place in the Dimensions universe.

I think Conrad should have opened a third identity making himself number 3 as well. That way he could have declared himself a trinity here. Ah, a missed opportunity.

You can add another member to your list. My boyfriend introduced me to this site. I am not down with all the lingo but I do believe that he is an FA? I have been reading through many of the posts and smile bigger the more I read on. I am thankful that there is a place for me in this world where I am thought of as a (I don't have to keep that to myself anymore).
