View Full Version : What happened to ZAFTIQUE?!

I used to order from them years ago when I was 4x....I recently referred a friend who is 3X to their site, and then went there just to see what new stuff they have.
What happened?! The site looks different, the clothes are different and their sizing is not as big as it used to be! And I just finished telling her their stuff is very big and cut very amply (the OLD Zaftique stuff would fit me when I was 4x, even though the tag said 2x).

I have a couple of things from Zaftique now, and I think it's exactly as described, the 5z and 6z fit me, although I haven't tried their pants yet.
I've found the measurements to right on target, and I like that they've moved away from so many tents into things that are stylish and more tailored.
But if your friend is a 3x, I'm not sure I'm seeing the problem? There is no way there would be any problem with her fitting in their clothes.... I'm far larger than that and I can buy everything they offer.

I agree with AnnMarie - and actually find their new fashions to be extremely accurate in measurement.

The lady who owned Zaftique, sold her business to someone else. Just like Making it Big, and Big on Batik that have all changed hands in the last year. Some folks are happy with the new looks, and some aren't.

Thanks for posting about Zaftique. I hadn't checked them out in ages, and I really love their new styles! The only problem is, I'm broke right now. I saw so many cute things I want there. Gah. Must find money soon.

Maybe I have diff tastes, but I liked the clothes that Zaftique had before. My only disappointment with the old Zaftique was that after losing wt I couldnt wear their sizes anymore (all too big), but the new Zaftique I can actually order from.
Before their sizes were cut much more amply than the measurements seem to indicate now...I would wear their old 1x which was really a 3x, for example.
Does anyone know if their stuff is still being cut very amply? I sent someone to their site having told them that, not sure if its still true.

I'm not sure what you mean by "cut very amply." The sizes are on the website. If you mean "bigger than the sizing indicates" I would hope not, since I don't want to order something and have it too big for me - if it says it accomodates a 52" bust I don't want to get a garment with a 57" bust.
Personally, I like the new sizing better. If I had ordered from the old sizes then I'd have gotten a garment 4" too big in the chest because I needed it to accomodate me in the hips. The new sizes do not have this problem.

I've only been ordering from Zaftique since the fall and I love their stuff. I'm super-sized and I find that their 6z fits wonderfully and fits as advertised. I think they have beautiful dresses, too.

I've been told their dresses stretch to fit larger than a 6x. Has anyone had that experience with them? If so, what do you measure? If you don't mind me asking. lol

Zaftique is offering free shipping for orders over $100 until Aug 5th. Important: you do have to ask for the free shipping.

Just looked at the site. I thought their clothing looked stunning.
Also, I want clothing to be the actual size it's supposed to be. Supposed to be 52" in the bust, like MV said? It damned well better be. There's nothing I hate more than either having fabric stretched across my tits and belly making me look like a $3 whore or looking like a bag lady!

Oh, wow, thanks for the reminder about Zaftique! I just went and took a quick look at their dresses, to see what all the hullabaloo was about, and was favorably impressed. Most of their designs are youthful, and not frumpy (even us senior citizens like pretty, not dowdy). I especially like their Arctic Sea Goddess dress (http://www.zaftique.com/index.php/detail_page/4427/4f59cd46ba2938fc81d990c43835255b). Isn't it pretty? Also like that so many of their dresses have v-necks, which I find is flattering to my double chins, and isn't easily found in your run-of-the-mill schlock offered by the old standbys.
If you click on the image, you get a larger view, with an opportunity to look at the fabric, and you also get several views of the outfit. They seem to have a link to their size chart on each page, making it convenient to see if the item's made in your size. They also tell you in the description on what body shapes it might look good. Didn't have time to look further, but what I saw definitely has my yea vote. I'm sure I'll be going back there when I get a chance.~Bountifully, Fuchsia

Zaftique is frustrating to me - I like a lot of their designs, especially their tops and dresses, and their 6x usually fits me like a dream, but the fabric! Yikes, the fabric! It's polyester heaven. I can take polyester in small doses in the winter, but it's out of the question for the summer. So all of those cute summer dresses that they have are nothing that I would ever buy, because I just know I'd feel hot and sticky and gross in them.
Makes me grumpy.

Yeah, I don't do polyester either. I don't know why they can't make some designs in natural fabrics. I think they charge an awful lot for polyester, too.

i've known about that site for a while now, but my reservations have always been that their fabrics seem a little chintzy (like you guys mentioned), and seeing as i only wear dresses, having freed myself from the tyranny of pants at age 14, i tend to think that they cut theirs too long. i just don't think mid-calf is a flattering length on anybody. it wouldn't kill them to have a few shorter dresses, would it?
at any rate it's mostly the fabric thing. good draping is so important, especially on larger bodies. and it's just hard to achieve a flattering drape over a big belly with like, nylon jersey.
not to be a negative nancy or anything - that's just my personal take. it does make me happy that their clothes work for other women, since the lack of pretty plus sizes is one of my least favorite things about the world in general.

So I guess 6x is 6x, and won't stretch to fit me? (I am 7x or 8x)...
anyone?

SVS, I've got 72"-74" hips (depending on how much Haagen-Dazs has been consumed that week), my waist is 58"-60" (same equation factoring in), and I can't for the life of my figure out my bust. But yeah, their 6x fits me pretty perfectly, in most items.
Hope that helps! :)

Thank you - I was beginning to question my sanity on this point because so many dresses are mid-calf length! I think I look horrible in average length dresses, and look far better in something cut right above my knees. Plus I have cute knees. :)

ACK..mid calf....WORST LENGTH EVER.
Short, or ankle, or floor....thats it. That midway crap makes everyone look frumpy.
When I make a short dress for someone...I make them triple measure that bit....becasue a short dress that is just a wee bit too long makes ALL the difference......in ick!

Oooh, way cool stuff!
And decent prices. My only gripe is that so much of it is 100% polyester. And that's a BIG problem in the climate I live in.
I think I may order a couple things I really like, and pick them apart and use the pieces as a pattern and make up several in fabrics I like. (Cottons, linens, rayons, etc...)
