Hi Folks,

It's official folks :) I signed the contract and we are moving forward!

The dates will be June 18th - 21st at the Renaissance Orlando Airport Hotel

More info to follow as it becomes available :)

Hugs,
Heather

We targeted the area of Orlando, FL - It will be hot but you will be mostly indoors or poolside, so it works either way. Some of our reasons for targeting this area is:

- Cheaper flights from all around the country and internationally because of the theme parks in the area.
- Many shopping/restaurant/attractions in the area as it is a vacation spot.
- We want it to be warm and like a resort vacation.
- Easily accessible scooter rentals for those who need them. These are very popular in Vegas at the bash and there aren't many cities in the world that have such rentals, but because of the theme parks these are readily available at good rates.
- Affordable hotel and banquet rates. Because of the high competition and tons of hotels in the area, we were able to get us the best deal possible.
- The theme parks in this area are very fat friendly. At my last visit I was 480 lbs and I was able to get on 75% of the rides. This is generally not even an option for fat people. So people may want to extend their vacations and do some things they normally don't have the ability to.

In closing, we will be working hard to make this 1st Official Dimensions Bash full of fun. We plan on some information workshops, meet & greets, pool events, dance parties and whatever else we can think of! We hope that you will join us and stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

We'd love to hear your suggestions and/or whether you think you'll be able to attend as this is our first Dimensions Bash and it's hard to figure out the numbers involved and what you folks really want to see/do at the bash. So bring it on :)

- The 2009 Dimensions Bash Crew

Sounds like so much fun. I am sure that you can rent scooters Donni, because all the Orlando theme parks have so many visitors with so many different needs, that I am sure they would try to accomodate them.
Heather will know anyway.

Enjoy!:)

Heather, do you know about Segway rental? Instead of asking for pet alpacas for the holidays, I will ask for this! Yessss. Although I wanted the alpacas really bad.

But I have vowed to ride a Segway at least once before I die and since I'll never own one, this is the perfect excuse to use one!

Does anyone know if Segways are fat friendly?

Segways aren't fat friendly. You need to put your feet on kind of either side of the main pole and you'd be too far out if your belly is in the way. You could ride it for maybe a test drive, but not an all day thing or you'd throw your back out or maybe couldn't do it at all :(

So it's beautiful belly vs. riding a segway.

I'll reiterate what Heather said. The worst thing than sitting all day long is standing all day long. The Segway is just about the worst thing that can happen to mankind, period. If you want to try one you should but I wouldn't depend on it for use. I've spent a portion of my career as a choral singer which requires that I stand statue still for about 2 hours for 3 nights every month or so. I can find you at least 280 other people who well tell you we may as well have played professional football. We're a mess. Ix-nay on the egway-say my friend.

Maybe someone else from your area will be coming and you can travel together. Or maybe someone(s) can "sponsor" you and be sure to meet you when you get here and be responsible to your parents to let them know you have arrived in addition to you telling them. Like if you travel to family (which this really would be like) and they meet you on the other end. That way your parents would have an additional contact person and know that you would be safe.

Urgent responses needed!

As it turns out, shooting for the dates of Jul 2 to 5th and trying to utilize the fact that people are off work for the 4th on the 3rd might not have been a good idea. When calling hotels, it seems like many people are vacationing for the long weekend and the rates aren't where we want them to be. Also, for some reason, a lot of people are getting married right on the 4th.

So... I need urgent suggestions as to whether we should go a week earlier to the last week in June or should we push out to mid-august when people have already settled down from attending Vegas?

If you are following this thread, I'd appreciate your input :) Thanks in advance.

I have been to Universal as well and did have fun there, but their rides are not as size friendly as Hollywood Studios...but then again...i did like that Universal had more of them! The raft ride was really fun, but i barely fit in one of the rollercoasters and the Dr. Doom ride at the time i went years ago, and i'm bigger now, so id just hate to have a bunch of us go if a park is sort of a planned outing....and some not fit the rides :(

Speaking as a Floridian, June is a much better option, weather-wise. Mid August starts to be the worst weather that we get. It is super hot, lots of storms and a MUCH higher chance of hurricanes.

Things are coming along :)

Just wanted to check in with everyone and let you all know that I am officially trying to move the event to the end of June.

I head to the Orlando/Kissimmee area on January 7th to meet with the prospective hotels to see if they meet ours needs and budgets.

More details to follow as soon as they become available :)

If anyone is directly in the area, I'd love to maybe have a fresh set of eyes with me on a couple of tours. They will be during business hours for the most part, so if you work nights or at home or not at all, that might work for you. Let me know :)

Hugs,
Heather

June would work better for me as well, because I'm not in the top seniority in the Department and I'm sure the time around July 4th will be taken before the vacation list gets to me. I do really need to have a time nailed down before the first or second week of January as the list will start floating around by that time.

Thanks!

June is much more comfortable. August is usually very hot and rainy. I love it but if you are not used to the heat it can be a bit much. I am 1 hr east in Tampa, so we are a tad bit cooler due to the gulf breezes but still very hot. I love it but June would definitely be a better choice.

We are nailing down the final date and will know before the first of February. We are doing our best to get the right date for the right prices at the right hotel :) It will not be in late July, so no worries there :)

We are pushing for mid-late June. Hang tight folks, more info to follow soon! :)

Okay! Mid or late June! That is what I wanted to hear. The vacation schedule has been released at work. It is on a first come first served basis and we cannot overlap vacation dates, so I hope no one takes the dates chosen for the Bash. Sure you all couldn't give me a heads up this week, so I can lock in the date before someone else snatches it?

Thanks for all you do Heather!

The best I can do is let you know that we are currently pushing for one of the following dates. Mind you, these are not set in stone till I sign a contract. But in the effort of trying to help out folks who are in the situations you are. I'll let you all know that I am working towards the following:

First Choice:
June 18th - June 21st (Early Bird Event would begin on June 17th)

Second Choice:
June 11th - June 14th (Early Bird Event would begin on June 10th)

Again, this is not solid. But a little more insight to what things look like on my end.

Heather

Just wanted you to see this update to the first post:

Hi Folks,

Just a quick note to let you know we are starting our search for the 2009 Dimensions Bash and we have decided on the following dates:

Dates are currently being re-scheduled due to holiday conflict in the area we are targeting. Please see my latest post at the end of this thread to help us decide what dates would be best. We are currently targeting the middle of June and will have dates announced by the 1st week of February. As it stands, the dates we are going for are: Choice #1 Jun 18-21 and Choice #2 June 11-14. We hope this information helps you in planning. Thank you for your patience.

We are targeting the area of Orlando/Kissimmee, FL - It will be hot but you will be mostly indoors or poolside, so it works either way.

- Affordable hotels and banquet rates. Because of the high competition and tons of hotels in the area, we will be able to get us the best deal possible.

The next update will be in the first week of February, once we have signed a contract and things are solidified. Rates and final location will be announced as soon as possible and hopefully no later then the 2nd week in February as our goal. We will be making this as AFFORDABLE as possible to make it available to as many people we can.

We'd love to hear your suggestions and/or whether you think you'll be able to attend as this is our first Dimensions Bash and it's hard to figure out the numbers involved and what you folks really want to see/do at the bash. So bring it on

Either date works for me. I've been a lurker for a while, but I'm in Miami- so Orlando is just a few hours drive.

I'm in! Hope to meet everyone :)

Edit: "for a while" means almost a decade, and I'm 24. haha.

If it is choice one then i know i will be coming since no one else is off that week at work. If it the 2nd chioce it will be harder to get off but i still might be able to swing it. I would hate to miss this event and i know if Heather doing much of the event it will be greattest event around.

Hello Heather,

I am thinking of attending and will know by Tues or Wed of this week if it is possible. I send a coiuple of emails and have not gotten a reply so I am trying this way. I know I will ONLY be able to afford o pay the discounted bash fee though and don't know how to make sure that is able to happen. I need information first off on if a full/queen air mattress will fit in the room with a scooter that someone needs for mobility. Also, I need to know how comfortable the roll away bed is and if it will hold a 5 ft 6 inch 375 person and allow them to sleep comfortably. If not, are there rooms that will accommodate this that are also handicapped accessible as this is VERY important for someone I would be rooming with. Please get back to me as quickly as you are able as I know time is getting close.

Thank you,
JACKIE :)

Hi Jackie,

I've responded to several notes from you via PM and email. I left you my number so we can chat so I could get you all set. For some reason, that's not working, so I'll answer everything here so we can get you on board for your trip to visit with us.

Hugs,
Heather

- Late Registration: You can pay the reduced fee, we aren't going to up the fee at this time, we realize the current economic situation for most folks and we are trying our best to be as liberal as possible. We cannot accept mail-in payments any longer but you can use a credit card and pay via PayPal. If you had to mail a check, it would have to be sent priority so that I received it definitely in a few days, or that wouldn't work.

- Rollaway/Air Mattress: I would recommend getting a cot/rollaway instead. I know air mattresses aren't super fat girl friendly for multiple nights. The cots they have a are standard size "real" twin mattresses on a rolling lower platform. They have only a handful in the hotel, but if you call the hotel with the original reservation number and get yours set aside and blocked out, you should be all set.

- Suggestions: Have you considered getting a handicapped room that has 2 queen beds? The beds are very big and your friend with mobility issues would fit just fine in a queen. I'm over 500lbs and I still had room to roll around in a queen.

- King Handicap Room Space: If you did decide you wanted to bring an air mattress. If the room is the same handicap room I was in (King), then there was indeed room to fit a full/queen mattress on the floor. The rooms are VERY spacious, more spacious then I've seen in a standard hotel room.

- If All Else Fails: You can book a two queen bed and bring your own handheld shower attachment for your mobility challenged friend. The tubs are low and wide for easy access and they have a rail to help stand and sit, etc. The hotel will change showerheads free of charge as per our contract. Also, the regular rooms come standard with a microwave/fridge whereas the spacing changes of a handicap room, made it so they weren't a standard option. You can request them, but they are first come first serve, so this option might work best for you. If your friend uses a shower chair, it would fit fine in the tub and even if she had a handicap room, she'd need her own shower chair as the hotel ones will NOT hold a fatty. I've attached pictures of the easy entry tub as well.

I think that covers it, here is the cot image :)

Good Lord Heather. I am continually amazed at the amount of effort, expertise, forthought and time you've given of yourself to Dimensions to make this a memorable event for all. It seems you've even taken clear color pictures of everything but local naked plant and animal life so people can see and have their questions answered. God almighty.

Thanks so much to you and all the others who are putting in to this in ways both seen and unseen. :kiss2::bow::kiss2:

I haven't seen you in person since the Fort Lauderdale NAAFA convention. Have seen you many times on TV in D.C. I will be at this bash as well. Glad to know you and your friend will be there. I'll be on the 3 wheel blue Maximum scooter this year. In case you forgot who I am, I was still walking at that that Fort Lauderdlae convention and one of the bellydancers in the hospitality suite. I just wish I had known 6 months ago that I would have to take them, because then I could have planned, ya know. 7 days before is just too rough to do.
