Where are my daytime chatters?

Ok I know I'm in a different time zone and all now, but what happened to dims daytime chat? When I was younger...like 5 years or so, lol, chats during the day used to be soooooo busy! Where the hell is everyone? Did ya'll go get real lives on me?

I know! I'm usually in there by myself from 1 to 3 but I stay there so someone may want to come in.

The last few days I have randomly checked the "who's chatting" and all I see are 000000000000000000 in all the rooms:( It used to be so good.

Yeah I remember the weight room used to be dead busy, but all those people chat at another place now.

I recall one period in teh past when the Dims rooms were dead, and the chat seemed to mostly happen at Bulge and a couple of other sites. Then things changed....I think it was beseen dying and taking all those chat rooms down, and Conrad put in new software here, and the chat room here became busy again. I don't know where people are chatting now (someone want to let me in on the secret?), but rooms do seem to go through their seasons....so spring could yet come again here :)

I used to chat at Hipsters when it was open. I think most people now chat as Fantasy Feeder....but I could be wrong as I haven't been there.

The party usually begins around 4-5 PM and goes until wee hours of the morning. :)

Chat is up and down. After I put in the new software in 2002, there were indeed several years where chat was very busy 24/7, and reaching 80+ chatters in the evenings. It's 7-1/2 years later now and the web has changed dramatically. Not only has technology moved forward whereas our chat software is frozen in time, but we've also seen the emergence of MySpace, FaceBook and any number of other social networks. Add to that the hugely successful new forum software we switched to and it's no surprise that chat is less busy these days.

In a sense, that's too bad as chat offers a level of direct, personal interaction that is simply not possible in a forum. A few days ago I stopped by chat and it was heartwarming to see not only the old, familiar software still steaming along, but also the pace and level of discussion. People know each other personally, they are kind and warm (at least what I saw). So from that perspective, I think chat is underused.

What also surprised me is how well chat has held up. It's running on the same machine as the forums now, and it still seems to move quite well.

If more traffic is desired, I am pretty sure that featuring chat a bit more prominently and occasionally holding "events" or special sessions would quickly crank things up a notch or two.

Finally, I am by now means opposed to switching chat software if there are better alternatives (and by that I don't mean simply add-ons that makes it more conducive to hop off into private multimedia sessions). I stay away from using hosted software because it's usually unstable and full of ads, but if there's something for purchase, by all means do let me know.

I miss my day time chat - the problem for me is the site is blocked at work now :( Imiss my girls - even though I was usualy busy with work it was still nice to have people in there that I could take a break with.

I used to be able to chat during the day b/c I was at my computer a lot. Sadly I have to be up and teaching more that I have my own classroom again.
