It’s January in Canada. It is cold pretty much right across the country.

Here in Ottawa it is so cold that people actually want to talk to politicians, just for the hot air.

How cold is it where you are?

Niagara region, it's pretty damn cold here. When you walk outside and breathe in, your nosehairs freeze. I've never been out west, but I hear when you spit on the sidewalk out there in January it's frozen before it hits the ground.

You know, I heard it was so cold on Parliament Hill in Ottawa that the politicians had their hands in their own pockets!

Nicely played, both of you! :D

The facts are good.....but I was hoping for more hyperbole, or at least colour :) I guess I should have been clearer. Thanks to SpecialK for for the chuckle and to FreeThinker for that stinker!

But this one is not actually hyperbole: Thursday morning we woke up and found a cold had frost covered everything, making the roads slippery (there were well over a 100 traffic accidents in the morning rush hour). So yesterday they went around pouring sand on the streets for grip.

We woke up this morning to a new layer of frost, which had coated the sand, making it much less effective

And from experience:
- it is too cold to make snowballs
- It is so cold that if you spray windshield wiper fluid on your grimy windshield, the fluid will freeze in place
- It is so cold that skating would be hard (skates don't glide well on really cold ice).

Okay Ed... you asked for it....

It was so cold . . .
down at the city morgue, you couldn't tell the stiffs from the guys who worked there!

It was so cold...
kids' grades seemed to be improving at school - when you apply the wind chill factor, a 57% looks like 93%!

It was so cold...
the dogs were getting stuck to the fire hydrants!

It was so cold...
the mercury in the thermometer was just - GONE!

It was so cold...
a recent poll in town indicated that 92% of the inhabitants no longer considered global warming a bad thing!

It was so cold...
if you made an ugly face - it stayed that way. Hey! Mom was right all along!

It was so cold...
the most popular fad diet was the one that allowed you 24,000 calories a day. Blubber keeps you warm.

It was so cold...
kids were telling the most outrageous lies - hoping their pants might catch on fire!

It was so cold...
football fans were actually ordering hot cocoa at the game.

It was so cold...
instead of yelling "freeze", the cops just yelled "go outside"!

It was so cold...
I tried to take the garbage out... but it wouldn't go!

It was so cold...
Shania Twain had to cover her midriff.

Here is one based on observation earlier this week: it was so cold that there was no lunch hour line up at the chip wagon near the government office building!

(if you know ottawa, you'll know that is amazing)

Another real life one: it is too cold to make good ice (for skating)
(the water freezes before you can spread it around properly)

Since it was -30C on my walk to work today...

"It was so cold in Toronto that the West End arsonist set his own house on fire."

Ooooh.....that was even bad, for me.

In Manitoba, its was so cold that while walking to work, I blinked and my eyes (eyelashes) froze shut.

In my younger days I had a morning paper route, in Ottawa for several years. Ottawa does not match Manitoba temperatures, but at 6am it is about as cold as you'll get. I never had eyelashes freeze together in a single blink, but I did have them freeze together more than once. Also had my nostrils freeze together (took a deep in breath, and the sides, or maybe inner hairs or something, froze together in that squeezed shape they get with a big breath in).
