So, I just got back from Perth (very quick trip to see the Papa Bear) and...well....THERE ARE SO MANY FAT PEOPLE THERE. I found it really interesting. In Melbourne, I'm usually the only fat person I see on the street, nevermind in a room!
Have any of you guys noticed lots of fatties in certain places compared to others? I just found it interesting :)

Target used to have a great range of plus sized underwear, back when I worked for them, but in the last ten years they now only have the basics. I find that pretty offensive. I used to have all sorts of sexy sets, but then they stopped selling them and I got fatter.

I have gotten a few sets of undies from Target, but i'm always the biggest size available (18/20) - Which is a shame, because I see woman rummaging through the knickers and KNOW there would be a market for them! (Not only plus size ladies, but also those with a larger cup size)

You calling my town fat??? haha I do see a lot of hot fattie girls when I'm out on the town... sometimes I stare without realising and I want to go and talk to them but they don't know why I'm looking and sometimes get embarrased.. I usually try to talk to them about clothing to get some ideas about where they shop. I agree about Target having a good range of plus size clothing... but the prices are high (compared to my beloved asos specials)... Kmart clothes are so unfashionable IMO... They used to be ok but now I walk through thinking do they seriously think a young fatty would wear this??
Glad you enjoyed your trip Bob.

I went to my local Target recently and they did not one have a single pair of plus size bathers! They had a full range of bathers for women in the regular sizes, but none for plus sized women.
What are you saying Target? Fat women should not be wearing swimsuits?
Target has become overpriced for the store it is anyway.
Um Target I'll give you the hot tip, you are losing out on a shitload of money from plus sized women, by not having as full and extensive a range across all lines of plus sized clothing, as you do regular sizes.
There are lots of fatties in Australia!

I will on occassion get asked where I find my clothes and stuff as I am usually the only person I see around here in like well pretty much everything I wear thank you ebay I like not having to worry I will run into someone wearing the same outfit as me :)
Penrith is supposed to be the fattest suburb in Australia according to Krispy Kreme's researches this is why the first Aussie one went there
I dont know since I joined DIMMs I see larger people all over the place now mayby I was too much in my own little world before..........................

I don't think there are necessarily more fat people in Perth, maybe LESS in Melbourne?
Perhaps it has something to do with suburban/city living? (I was in the burbs, not actually Perth CBD in all fairness)

I agree... I don't think there are more fatties in Perth, I think I notice them more in recent years when I'm out on the town because I'm more aware/ conscious of looking to see what they are wearing, who they are with, where they are partying.

Really? That surprises me. I thought inner city dwellers would tend to be highly educated, thin, type professionals, whereas blue collar type fatter people would live out in the suburbs.
I know that is the case in Melbourne anyway.

Wtf, are you for real? I can't tell if they are educated or not, but does being a fattie boomstix mean you aren't or do you mean they are, how the fuck does levels of education come into it.
People are fat because they consume more calories than calories expelled. It is not rocket science. Everyone knows this.
Inner city for me personally is because I am simply lazier and I like easy access to stimulation.
then, not that this is my reason, but I kinda thought the worker fatties I see maybe cos most work involves a lot of sitting on yr arse, sometimes doin' crazy hours to pay for all the fun crazy expensive city things like eating out and cock tales, cheese platters and sparkling wine, ridiculous rents etc etc
Or is it the educated or non educated variety of fatties coming in to work from the burbs lol who cares, just they are a representing.

Calm down. Overreaction much?
If you look across the social spectrum this pattern is oft repeated if we like to acknowledge it or not.
I am not attaching a moral value to it, just making an observation of what I see, at least in Melbourne.
I am a fattie myself, so chill ok.

Whether it's in regards to food choices or excercise. Laziness does not = uneducated.

I am just stating what I see in Melbourne.
I am just being honest about what I have seen with my own two eyes.
I have seen a lot of young educated professionals living in the inner city, and yes a lot of them are thin.
I do not agree that what I said was ludicrous.
People that have less access to income tend to eat higher calorie food because it is cheaper, and they live in suburban areas because once again it is cheaper.
I can concede your point about laziness not equating to lack of intelligence, I am just stating what I have seen in certain areas.
Case in point I am an intelligent person, and I am fat. I live in the country.

I was born and raised in Melbourne, and I would have to disagree with you as to people letting you be, and being friendly.
I was often verbally abused by various people for being fat.
I moved to the country three years ago, and I can tell you it was the best move I have ever made.
There is a real sense of community here. People care about each other.
In Melbourne many people are aloof, and care only for themselves.
Yes Melbourne is very multicultural, and that is great, but it's down side outweighs it's good side.
I lived there for thirty seven of my fourty years. I would know.

It is remarkably cheaper in the suburbs for fresh fruit, vege and meat.
Have you ever shopped for food in the city?
It is simply laziness that makes someone purchase shit processed food over the former.
Laziness for not wanting to shop for it, prep it, cook it & clean up after it etc.

But conversely those on low incomes cannot afford inner city rent.
Processed food is cheaper than good wholesome food. That is a reality, regardless of where you live.
I am sure many people would prefer to buy good wholesome food, they just have less income.
I am well aware of the price of food. I lived in the inner city for many years.
Thankfully I am out of there now.

Where did you get that from?
I explained myself on all counts.
Typical Dimensions overreaction.
People are not happy here if there is not drama.
You cannot make an honest observation here.
You have to tell people what they want to hear v's what you have actually experienced or witnessed.

It is much cheaper to purchase fruit veg and meat than it it is take away. A kilo of chicken breasts is 10$ a bag of pasta 2$ some broccoli 2$ a loaf of bread 2$ garlic, 2$ tin of tomatoes 2$ eggs milk another 6$ will feed 2 easy and also give you decent clean leftovers + brekky so really your head is in yr arse again with this one.
Meal planning & prep takes time, effort, forethought. VS convenience (read laziness) it does not mean uneducated.
Processed food may be cheaper when you factor in the monetry cost of your personal time and efforts, but not overall when you go meal vs meal.
Stop perhaps paying so much attention to sensationalist media, you said you were intelligent, you can spell and write, can you though, think freely?

It's blatant over opionated ignorance that offends & provokes such reactions, see how you find yourself having to defend yourself often, for whatever reason.
I do not agree and do not need to further state how you are incorrect. I know my reality, have fun with yours there luv. :)

I see plenty of fatties where I am, and quite a lot in our Hornsby shopping centre, which not only caters for the blue collar burbs but also the more affluent on the North Shore. Fat does not seem to discriminate around here so much.

I started this thread out of genuine curiosity - I seriously haven't noticed a lot of fat people in Melbourne (I live VERY close to the city - eg. Carlton) and I was just curious what everyone else had observed. I don't want to make anyone feel that their insight is not welcome- it truly is. I just don't want an argument, because it's not the point of this! :(

There need to be more "community familiar" BBW in Sydney.
It'd be nice to have large dance-type events like NJ/CT/NY. I see plenty of beautiful people but they walk around in a daze of BBW/FA community ignorance. Yes I'm assuming, but I've seen nothing to prove otherwise so far.
