2011 Dims Bash Request

Hi All,
Well I had a TOTAL BLAST at the Dims Bash in 2009 and was disappointed there was no return in 2010. I was HOPING that Dims would consider giving Orlando, FL another chance. It is still early and I would be the first to register for another go at this. I think Heather and everyone did a BANG up job !!! Please consider this.....

If it were held in Orlando, there is a chance Jackie and I could be there. We have family in Orlando, so we'd be able to cut out the cost of a hotel room.

Orlando's a bit far away for me...don't know if I can afford a flight down there and that's a helluva long drive to make. I'd definitely try to make a bash somewhere in the northeast, though.

I agree with those voting for the South. Why don't you have them in the Southeast? The capital of NC would be a great place! After all, doesn't the South have the most BBWs?

I think there are two factors that ought to go into the mix as far as city selection goes. First, geographic rotation. The bash should rotate through different parts of the country. While I love the South, always staging the bash there imposes an unfair hardship on BBWs and FAs that live in the snow belt. Second, cost of flights. Orlando and Vegas are great locales because you usually can get cheap tickets there. But you can also get cheap seats to Minneapolis.

You're forgetting one thing. The south never has anything. There are bashes 1-2 times a month in Chicago or Boston.

For me it would have to be driving distance because even though it might be cheap for you to fly it's still expensive for me when I'd have to buy 2 tickets.

The problem is that, no matter where the bash is, it's going to be inconvenient or too expensive for someone. At the first Dims bash, there were dozens of supersize women who flew, and most of them bought two seats. It's unfortunately the rub of gatherings like this. No matter where we go, there are going to be people who just can't come.

And the problem with moving a bash of this scale around every year is that event planning of this size and with the special requirements that our attendees have takes a lot of time and work with hotels. It's not as easy as picking a hotel that looks nice and is within our price range and just giving them a call. There are so many considerations, and it often takes multiple in-person visits to determine whether or not a property will work. One of the main reasons bashes often stay where they are is that building a hotel relationship is very, very important. NAAFA does move, but it is also hosted by a local chapter in the city where it is located each year, and these chapters have often established relationships with hotels because of their own events.

The bottom line is that everyone would like to have the bash in their back yard. Until we have the ability to teleport, travel is going to suck for a lot of people.

Wouldn't it be fair it the bashes were held in different parts of the country so that more people have a chance to experience them? I vote for Seattle, personally.

With all due respect to Ashley, the needs of our community are not all that different from any other that has members with special needs. Any metro area should have at least one venue that's suitable. Limiting this gathering to a couple of venues means that the same people who find it difficult to get to those places are the same ones who are disadvantrage each time that it's held. A lot of BBWs, for instance, have phobias about flying and choosing places that require them to get on airplane in order to get back and forth over a weekend bookended by weekdays means that they cannot possibly attend.

The flip side is that those who would like to have convention in Denver or Seattle cannot expect Ashley and the others who work behind the scenes to do all the legwork. You need to privately ask her to send you a checklist of minimum requirements for a bash. And then you need to find a venue in the city of your heart that meets the requirements and put together a bid.

The reason there are bashes in Boston and Chicago and New Jersey is because people just decided to start having them, and set stuff up. I'm surprised by now that people in other locations haven't started doing this, too.

Plus, wasn't there a bash planned in Nashville last fall? And isn't there a bash happening in San Diego sometime? Plus, lets not forget the Vegas Bash every summer. So, there are things happening in other parts of the country, and lets not forget that the Boston, Jersey, and Chicago events are not 'Dims Bashes' either.

Point being, Heather and everyone else in involved have to plan the bash in a location that guarantees the most attendees, in order to at least cover their costs. Fairness in geography may not allow this to happen, and unless there is someone who wants to take up the Dims Bash as a charity, we may have to deal with any future Dims Bashes being in one place.

I bet the folks who plan heavenly bodies or Jersey Bashes are the sort you could approach if you were interested in hosting a bash, and wanted to know how to go about doing it. Fatties are doing it for themselves, to paraphrase an Annie Lennox & Aretha Frankiln song.

One of these days. I would love to see a Dimensions Bash come to Montreal Quebec. Now, I know that some people think we are snooty in Quebec. And sometimes we are. But there is also a lot of Hoh, Hoh, Hoh. French in Quebec. And you know what they say about the French, no? Hah, I'm just horsing around. But, I think that actually Lasalle, Quebec would be a nice place. THat is, Lasalle, Quebec would be a nice place to have it in a Buffet. There are lots of Buffets in Lasalle. No, I'm not being offensive. If you are happy being big, why not just go to the buffet, no? Live Large, Like Large, Be Happy Large, and why have hang-ups and baggage?
