View Full Version : Some Fashion Advice Needed
I know you guys know how to find the best stuff online and from what I've seen so far, ya'll have good taste.
So, here's my dilemma.
I bought a white crochet skirt last year. I dyed it a cocoa brown.
It's kind of like this, only a solid brown:

Aside from the tank on top, which works well for most places outside of Utah, what would you suggest as a top? Something with at least cap sleeves. (You wouldn't believe the attention that people give to the sleeveless here. Fat bodies or not!! ) Oh, and preferably natural fibers.
Thanks for any tips you can provide!
Color: aqua. Hottest color with brown right now. Or at least some shade of blue.
Type? Sorry. can't help so good.

Note to self: Buy a dozen tube tops and eight pairs of Daisy Dukes. Travel to SLC. Prance around.
In all seriousness, I love this shirt (http://www.makingitbig.com/ShowView/product/170/21):

Hi Cat-
How about you keep your sleeveless tops but you put a nice lacy shawl over your "bare" arms? Shawls are very chic these days and if you get a nice lacy one it's almost as cool as going bare! You could even knit or crochet one yourself! Here's a pic of a linen shawl I knit....perfect for hot weather!! (click on the pic to embiggen, lol)

I have some other cool cotton shawls on my blog if you want to look around....look on my sidebar for "Finished Objects 2005 and 2006"

No tank top? How about a halter? Hehehe :) Honestly, I don't know anything about ins and outs and seasons and all of that, but as far as things that look lovely with those sorts of skirts...
I like the shawl idea, if the shawl doesn't add an overwhelming amount of open weaving. Light, open weave sweaters are of course also an option... they look lovely with peasant skirts, but that might just be too much with a crocheted skirt. If I were to depart from the tank top myself, I would probably pick something gauzy and flowy, like:

I have this top in a pattern from a couple of years ago, but I think the white would be lovely. The fabric's very light and breezy, and fine for summer wear in most warm weather. I wore mine before and after my wedding earlier this month.
Another colour I'd suggest in addition to turquoise is a pale pink. I love pink and brown. And you could always just wear something you already have and add a scarf or a macrame belt or something.

Because it's a flowy skirt, I would wear a fitted t-shirt. The avenue makes great basic tees and they're often on sale for 9.99
But I'm not sure if I like the pairing of a gauzy material with cotton. A peasant shirt could also work.

How about this (http://www.jms.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce/ProductDisplay?prnbr=19692&cgnbr=20A2000000)fitted top....It comes in several colors. I think the pink with the brown would be lovely....or even the coral. I think I am going to get this tee actually. lol
You guys rock! Thanks for all of the suggestions!
I'm likin' the idea of the pink/aqua/turquoise. Very fresh lookin' combos!
The shawl idea is fun, but it might be too much crochet at once. By the way, PrettyFatGirl4U, that's a gorgeous piece! You have a lot of knittin' talent! I love the fact that it's linen too. Very, very nice!

For you, Cat, I'd love to see you in a V-neck as opposed to a rounded or square neck. Not necessarily a PLUNGING V, but a nice angle to contrast the roundness in your face. Triangular earrings, as well? Or am I stuck in 1982?
At least I'm not advocating shoulder pads... :D

Of course you are not advocating shoulder pads, FLO....
You want to be the only one wearing them.
Don't I seem recall you in a picture with.......?
(Oh yeah...what happens in the clubhouse stays in the clubhouse.)
Never mind.
