I've read various estimates of the annual income of the weight-loss industry, ranging from 20 to 50 billion dollars. A large chunk of this money goes for advertising, and the first rule of journalism is: never say anything that might annoy a major advertiser. So, although there may be studies about underweight people, don't expect to see them in the popular press.
