Of course you are right - if anybody should have the agency to stand up to or simply ignore body-shaming, it is Mariah Carey.

My issue mainly is that such a massively invasive procedure as WLS nowadays is being performed without any, or maybe even against medical indications.

We all believe medicine is sound natural science - well it isn't.

It is social science - determined by health care system, cultural norms, social bias, fashions and the like.
30 years ago, doing a hysterectomy at the begin of menopause was considered the state of the art thing to do. Today, nobody sees it as a standard elective surgery anymore.

Likelihood is high - also because of the to be expected long-term complications - imo that WLS will go the same way.
