Angry The Gay Agenda

What do you all think of the people who say there is a "gay agenda"? I remember last year, my Grandmother got something in the mail about the "gay agenda" and how whatever group needed money to stop gay activists from "recruiting" and trying to change society so that everyone is cool with perversion. Or something like that. She showed it to my dad, who didn't care, and said she was going to send them money.

Funny thing is, I came out to her at the funeral home the day after my father passed away, and she didn't care one bit. She has never cared about people being gay. She is elderly (87) and has demensia, so I think it is sick that groups prey on people like her to support the Anti-Gay-Agenda, which is nothing more than a bunch of conservative Christians who are out there trying to lobby our government into making policies that are homophobic, and unconstitutional. But anyway, I'll get off my soapbox.

I just hate hearing about the so-called gay agenda. I believe the only thing that gay activists want is equality, and the ability to be legally protected. I also believe they (we) want to make the world a safer, more accepting place for queer people. That is all!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexual_agenda

What are your thoughts on the gay agenda? Do you have a gay agenda? Pass it along, I want to know what our agenda is, exactly. And isn't it funny that the people who suggest there is a gay agenda are the ones who created the items on the agenda in the first place?

Ummm yeah, gay agenda.

My gay agenda is that i want to pervert everyone and make em all queer like me!! muwahaha!
Seriously..this is a lot of shit. You are so right.. i think the 'agenda' of most queer folks, is to be able to live out thier lives, free from homophobia and to have the same rights as everyone. Not too much to ask really is it?

I totally agree with you. But a lot of people think that it is too much to ask. Lately, I've been hearing a lot on Vermont's news from naysayers regarding gay people and their rights (you know, the whole gay marriage debate brings people out of the woodwork). The hilarious thing is that on local news this morning, they sent out a gay man to do the story on gay marriage, and all kinds of people were telling him TO HIS FACE and on camera, "I think marriage is between a man and a woman" and "homosexuality is unnatural" and "what about the children? they need to have a mom and a dad!". There were also plenty of people who were happy about this new law, thank goddess!

Anyway, no matter what, I think that we will have to deal with homophobia for a while. One thing I do know is that in the past ten or fifteen years, there have been a lot of promising changes and queers are more visible.

Thanks to all those early pioneers of the gay movement who really took a stand - especially when it was difficult! If not for them, we wouldn't be where we are today!

Talking of which, i saw 'Milk' the other day. It was so amazingly inspiring. I think a lot of the time people take their 'rights' for granted, when infact many people have fought and died for them.

I think everyone on this board should go out and rent or buy Milk ASAP! It is such an amazing movie. I rented it but am going to buy it just as soon as my favorite video store owned by a gay couple has it out for sale. Which should be soon.

There are a lot of people who died for our cause...others who took beatings or got spit on (literally and figuratively) and so it is important for us to be brave and open about who we are, even when it is uncomfortable and even when we deal with homophobia. And homophobia is EVERYWHERE. I've dealt with it recently and all i have to say is that it isn't going to deter me nor push me back into the closet, no way, no how!

Indeed. Maby we need a 'homophobia' thred for catharsis.. though, i'm not sure where i would begin..
Though, i really think things seem to be better in that respect than they were 10, 15 years ago..
I think perhaps this boils down to more queer representation on tv too..like slowly people are getting used to us..
Actually, my gfs aunt gave us a copy of 'milk' and she said to her "Its a good film as long as you can get past the gay men kissing, i canny stick that!" I thought, "YOUR NIECE IS GAY!!!!".. i just thought that was slightly insensitive... Had i been there i think i would have said "oh so would it have been better if it was two women kissing?" She hates me anyway, cause i obviously 'groomed' her '37 yr old' neice!! lol

Everyone has an agenda! I do not think it is a bad thing. I always considered an "agenda" simply a list of things groups of people rally together to get done. I have an agenda! You have an agenda. Everyone has one. Ain't no shame.

It sucks that the word is being used lately to foster an "Us vs. Them" mentality.

You're right! Gay and queer activists in organizations come up with mission statements, which are essentially agendas. But the question is, are we following Robert's rules? Hhahahaaa...

Seriously though, the only problem I have with "The Gay Agenda" is that a lot of anti-gay groups are the ones who have come up with the items on said agenda. They are making it out to be a very negative thing, but then again, being anti-gay is what their "agenda" is too.

I don't like the us versus them mentality either. However, since people are against queers and are fighting to restrict our rights, I take issue with that. I am definitely not trying to convert anyone nor am I telling them that they are wrong. They are entitled to their opinion and we live in a country (well, some of us) where free speech is guaranteed and we're all entitled to our opinions.

I just don't like it when people's religion dictates how other people should live. I believe in the separation of church and state and in Constitutional rights. I know we've come a long way but I feel we have so much further to go. But I do believe we are headed in the right direction.
