Default one source of my fat obsession

As a child, I lived in the UK - and I remember a comic strip series that was in the weekly "Whizzer and Chips". It was called The Slimms - and it told the ongoing story of a husband and wife who ate themselves to bigger and bigger proportions - and a slim son who does his best to keep them from overeating.
I was obsessed with this strip - watching the woman eating with wild abandon and enjoying her round growth.... completed with a tape measure....

Does anyone else remember this series? It seems there was another one too - that had an entire family that liked to eat - a lot - and were extremely fat. The brits had some wacky comics - and these ones stick out in my mind.

I remember that cartoon too and funny, at the time I sort of found it erotic in a innocent kid kind of way...seeing the wifes constant eating and then that tape measure scene. I wonder who came up with the cartoon....must have been an fa or ffa.
Does anyone remember Desperate Dan and the cow pies? He was bhm cartoon character in The Dandy? Loved his food!!!

I agree, the cartoonist had to be a FA. I do remember Desperate Dan too. He always needed a shave as I recall... The artwork was pretty great in these comics.

I remember a commercial from Alka Seltzer, where there were two big guys chatting after a pie eating contest. The younger one had the expression of pain, the older one told him to get used to using the product. This was before the "I can't believe I ate the whole thing" promotion. I would think that I would be one of those guys one day....

Found a mention of the comic at this link:

I guess mine would be animated cartoons like 'Pigs Is Pigs', 'Betty Boop & Little Jimmy' and 'Sgt. Snorkles' Longest Day'. Also recently discovered Billy Bunter.

There was a Coke (or Pepsi, cannot remember which) commercial during the late 80s where a bunch of people went to a party. Those who drank the 'wrong' soda inflated (although the intent was to depict them getting fat). I saw the commercial once, ever, and have never been able to find out anything else about it, but seeing it was a defining moment for me. I wish I could see it again.
