Default Avon

Gosh. My granny used to sell Avon when I was a wee tadpole but I haven't been into that stuff in years. An old friend has just started selling it and I would really like to support her. I can't think of a single thing I would want from there. Is there anyone here who uses Avon? Anything you would recommend? Anything I should stay away from?

It's been maybe 5 years since I've gotten anything from Avon, but that's because I don't have an Avon lady any more. LOL I really thought their cosmetics were fine quality -- better than, say, drugstore cosmetics, maybe not quite as good as department store cosmetics. They do have some higher end stuff and actually occasionally plus sized clothing. Did she give you a catalog or website addy? Their stuff is fairly inexpensive so you could easily take a risk on a lipstick or eyeshadow and see if you like the quality.

Their retractable lipliners, I buy by the half dozen. I buy them in the color closest to my natural lipcolor so I think I get the mauve.

I've found their fashion jewelry (especially earrings) look FAR better in real life than the catalogs.

Their clothing and shoe sizes tend to run small.
IMO the scents all seem to have the same base note which irritates the hell out of me but the latest celebrity scents are okay.
The colors of the makeup in the catalog are way off so if you're a real stickler for specific tones, ask for samples instead.
Their higher-end skincare products are pretty good, actually.

I order from Avon any time I have the money. I love their products.

The colours are definitely off, but after getting a few, you learn to guesstimate the actual colour. I do stear clear of the foundations, though. They work well, but the colour is the worst on those.

I love the jewellery and I also get their roll-on deodorants all the time. They work longer than sticks in store, but I do have to make sure my pits dry, first.

Their "ANEW" product line is basically amazing, and the new hair colours they have are pretty near professional quality.

I also recently bought a black crackle nail polish from them and I prefer it to that Sally Hansen stuff at department stores.

The feet line is awesome too.
I love one of the mineral concealers I tried last year, and the side stuff from Mark has the best trendy colors, ugh I love Marks summer scents! Smells like a beach party seduction lol

Body wash from them irritates my skin and isn't sudsy enough for my taste, the acne line sucks now,it used to be anti bacterial and awesome now it leaves me feeling greasy.

Waterproof liners I've used over the years, the p,us size clothes from time to time rocks, when I sold it they had a plus catalog but it's long since gone.

But the on sale and clearence catalogs are great for gift buying, and jewelry I really do love! They get great season starter bundles, lime buy one canvas bag get four free,or flip flops and tanks. It's not too pricey and I love the comfort of calling and ordering and it being deliver. And the samples. I loose samples.

Anew Ultimate Age defying line is great for me with my sensitive skin.
I love their Rare Gold Fragrance.
Had some hits and some misses with lip glosses and lipsticks.
Their brow and eyeliners are inexpensive but of decent quality.

Moisture Therapy Lip Treatment. Absolutely the best 'chapstick' that I have ever used. It moisturizes your lips but doesn't leave behind any residue. It doesn't have that 'waxy' feel. When they are on sale (and even when they're not!) I buy like a dozen of these just to make sure I don't run out. I keep one in my purse, in the bathroom, where I sit in the living room, yeah I just might have an obsession. lol

I also love Sweet Honesty perfume, it has a light powdery scent. It reminds me of being a teenager because that's when I first started wearing it.

I really like their Perfumed Skin Softners - in particular Haiku and Odyssey.

I agree on the cosmetic colors - they are quite tricky and yes the jewelry is much better in person.

I like their lip balms the anew moisturizer and their honeysuckle scented bath stuff. They used to have skin soft in a pink and a yellow variety that I LOVED Idk if they still have them. I hate the original smell... so cloying.

I have sold Avon off and on for years. I love their Rare Gold perfume line. Years ago, they used to offer a body line called Sunrise that I absolutely LOVED. It was an organgey/citrus scent that was available in body spray, roll-on deodorant, body wash, and various lotions. They have long since discontinued it which makes me sad. haha!

I don't recommend their nail polishes. In my experience they peel way too easily, like within hours.

Their jewelry is usually good quality. When I was an Avon lady, Avon had a very nice satisfaction guarantee / return policy. I'm not sure if they still have it or not, but anytime I had a problem with an item it was replaced immediately without any hassle.

As for their make-up, it's hit or miss. You just have to try stuff since colors don't translate well in the brochures. I wear one of their eyeshadow quads almost daily (mocha latte) along with their eyeliners. I tried their mineral makeup, but wasn't impressed with the finish. I just didn't like the way it looked on my face. I don't think I have encountered an Avon lipstick that I didn't like.

I do like when holidays come around. I can usually find some super cute trinket that I just have to have. Usually I'll wait until after the holiday has passed and they put items in the Outlet Brochure. I take the chance that they didn't sell out of an item, but it's worth it for the discounted price. Besides, if I can't get an item I probably didn't need to spend the money anyways! lol

"Skin so Soft" is a classic.

I've also heard great things about the Anew anti-aging products, as well as the Mark lip glosses.

My favourite Avon product is In A Blink eye pencil. It is an eyeliner pencil, nice texture, and blends in well with the smudger on the other end. It also has an eyeshadow the same colour as the pencil, inside the lid. You can use it to make the eyeliner more smokey and smudged, and use it for a dark colour in the crease of the eye. I find it excellent, multi purpose.

My second favourite is the Nailwear Pro Enamel nail polish. It is the very best nail polish i've had, ive found it stays on as well as OPI, but much cheaper. I always buy the same colour - Viva Pink and it adorns my toenails from May to the end of September

I love the Planet Spa Olive Dry Oil Body Spray. It has the most gorgeous subtle clean scent, and makes my dry skin lovely and moisturised without having to contort myself to rub anything in.

I don't like any of their perfume or aftershave, I think they all have a similar undertone that is a bit .. cheap smelling.

Avon has the very best deodorant EVER. I have really sensitive skin, and their unscented 24 hour deodorant has been an awesome find! I think that it may be just 89 cents right now, too...it's frequently just 99 cents. If you're not sensitive to such things, they also have lovely scented deodorants.

I have to second the Skin So Soft Original scent recommendation. I've been using SSS for almost 30 years now mainly for the insect repellant qualities. To this day, I still use it when I'll be outside for any length of time confident that I will not be getting mosquito bites.
