Default Buying glasses online...

I know that quite a few of you have gotten glasses online but, for the life of me, I cant find the threads with them. (i suck at searching this forum i guess)
Hubby got his eyes tested today and wants to buy a few pairs of glasses (some back ups and shades) so we thought online would be the cheapest route. (Insurance will pay for his main pair)
So if you have a site you recommend, i'd greatly appreciate it

I just got new ones but I have to try them on so I get mine at Lenscrafters. They may cost more but you get exactly what you want, can return them if you don't like them after 60 days, can get them serviced at any time, and they have 30% off. Prada has some great ones.

I've had nothing but great luck with them. I have three pairs from them, each awesome!

We're going tomorrow after work to get his main pair of glasses that's covered by insurance. We will probably get some back ups and sunglasses online. (He desperately wants sunglasses since he bikes like 30 miles every day or so)

Thanks for the link. As soon as we get his pupil distance, we're going to order a couple pairs. Having kids, it's always a good idea to have a spare pair. I learned that the hard way!

Yeah, they never get the PD...even if you ask for a copy of your prescription...you gotta badger them for it!

I used EyeBuyDirect.com .

They were fine. Took a little while (a month? can't remember), but I was satisfied with my purchase, and they were dirt cheap. Would buy from them again.

This is a timely thread. I will be needing new glasses soon, and I need inexpensive options.

Getting your PD is a pain in the ass... LensCrafters won't give it to you at all, which is why I wouldn't buy my glasses there. I just find it unbelievable that I could spend close to $500 on glasses (about how much mine generally cost) and they won't give you something so basic about your own eyes.

I went to ForEyes (I think it's only a local/New England chain, but not sure?) and got two pairs for $450. They have online ordering, so when I asked the woman who helped me about my PD, she wrote it right on my Rx.

Love my glasses and my lenses are so much better (smoother, more polished at the edges and fit like a glove in my frame) than LensCrafters ever made for me - I'll go back there again and again.

I will be ordering some from Zenni too, just for fun and options - I have friends who've used them and been happy with their glasses.

I ordered like 5 pairs from them (for like $75 total - including shipping), and really liked the way 4/5 of them looked. But I kept getting headaches when I'd wear them too much...so not sure what that was about. But they really have great glasses, and amazing prices - so I'm really glad to hear that they worked for you.

As for me, I had to go back to getting my glasses from Costco.

I got my current "pair and a spare" from zennioptical.com and like them a lot.

I went with zenni because out of the three chain optical shops I checked out, none offered rimless styles anymore; and the one independent optical shop in my area offered them but without any kind of warranty because they claimed that the style is too prone to breakage.

I wasn't going to spend a few hundred dollars for glasses, that if they broke would leave me S.O.L. I got two rimless styles from zenni, one with the featherweight titanium hardware, and the other with a sunglass clip-on. The grand total was less than $100. Both pair are superior in quality to the pair of rimless glasses I had bought for $250 at Sears Optical that wound up cracking at the lens mounts within a few months of wear.

I've gotten glasses from both zennioptical and eyebuydirect and have been happy with my purchases. Between my kids and I, I think I've gotten...7 or 8 pairs? Over the past 3 years or so.

Of those, only one pair was a problem - the color started peeling from the frame and then the frame itself cracked after one year. This was with daily wear, they were my fave glasses. I'm guessing it was a common problem, as the style was pulled from the site (despite the problems, I wanted to order them again).

I currently have 3 pairs. One pair I wear daily, 2 pairs are vanity glasses, meaning I only wear them to match certain outfits.

My son also has 3 pairs. One pair rimless, 2 pairs metal rimmed. The metal ones were eyebuydirect, all the others were from zenni. At the time I purchased them, EBD was having a 2 for 1 sale. Since he needs them for the military, I figured it couldn't hurt to have a spare pair.

The most I've spent on a single pair of glasses was $30, including shipping. This includes frame and lenses.

I'm glad this thread popped up again. I'm going to be getting my eyes checked again soon since i'm finding the need to wear my glasses more often. (the doc was hesitant to give me a script since it was so mild.. now i am glad he did, i wear them a lot for seeing distances now) We have a $400 budget from our insurance but would love to get some vanity ones too
