Default Shad roe

Do any of ya'll like this shit as much as I do? They are only available for a brief period each year.

If you have never tried them, then you should do so. Quickly. The season is very short and then you'll have to wait until Feb-Mar 2014.

I'll be having shad roe with some scrambled eggs and grits for supper tonight.

My ex and his mom loved shad roe. I was not that adventurous. I did enjoy pan fried smelts though

I'd try it if given the opportunity & it doesn't break the bank. I have never seen it in the grocery stores around here, though.

Its big around here in Delaware. We've got a couple of local restaurants that have fresh shad and shad roe specials. And yet, I've never tried it. It doesn't gross me out, I just haven't quite worked up the desire to. Probably because its so "we'll sell out early" that I'd feel bad if I ordered it and hated it. I'd really like to just steal a bite off someone elses plate first you know?

That looks terrible.. and any food referred to as sh*t, puts me right off, lol. However, I'd try a tiny nibble. I do love pressed cod roe, which i fry in a little butter and sprinkle with lemon juice.

It looks WAY too much like a certain part of the female anatomy to make me want to try it.

^ ^ ^ ^

Do you remember the liver scene from Portnoy's Complaint? "I fucked my own family's dinner."

Here's how I fixed mine. The roe was sautéed in a little butter, cheese grits, and a pair of scrambled eggs (with 'protection'). Note the Italian wine glass to match the Italian protection.

Sorry Ruby, it's just a redneck figure of speech. If you like pressed cod roe then you'd love fresh shad roe. If you get a chance, give it a try!
