It would be cooler if you could learn to respect that not everyone must agree with your opinions. Explain why you think they are wrong. Simple insults are counter productive.

Sorry but not all opinions are entitled to respect. If you believe that Mexicans are rapists, Syrian refugees are terrorists, and women are playthings to be grabbed at will your opinions are not entitled to respect -- nor are those of people who mindlessly follow you.

Also, “something unprecedented in the history of the republic” sounds like a liberal talking point.
The difference, which is reasonably obvious, is that V.P. Gore did not preemptively refuse to accept the outcome before the votes had been cast, let alone counted.

That's unprecedented.

Except, that is not what I said. I did not say you must respect the ideas in an opinion, rather you must respect the idea that others don't share yours. There is a big damn difference. (Unless you are so arrogant to assume your own opinion is the only one worthy of respect.)

Except, Al Gore was never asked that question. He created the precedent that a candidate could challenge the outcome. That is why to claim a challenge is “unprecedented” is false.

With all due respect, I read two variance of that “unprecedented in history” quote in two separate sub headlines in two different papers. I also heard it said by one of Philly's TV anchors in a news broadcast.

That would seem to be more than a little strange?

Yes, actually it is. Unless the authorities can identify this person and show they have the means to carry out the threat … Then that is what it is; just talk.

Well … I did not make a prediction of who will win. Yet, are you planning to make the same mistake you made in the 2014 mid-term election? Remember, where you claimed the Democrats would win control of both the House and the Senate.

So, again with the strawman argument: you're saying that if he had been asked about it in October, 2000, he would absolutely have said that he would refuse to accept the outcome if he'd lost by any margin whatsoever (not, as in fact was the case, by a margin that was within mandatory recount levels).

Don't say "With all due respect" to me when it's clear that you are communicating that I borrowed or stole the phrase in question from someone else.

I read four newspapers daily and did not see that phrase or variants of it. I'm telling you that I crafted that sentence, and your response is essentially, "No, you didn't."

You are showing my profession, and me, zero respect.

There are more than 1,000 daily newspapers published in the United States. The odds favor a couple of newspapers using similar phrasing -- without making it plagiarism on my part.

You are writing in this thread as a poster and not as a moderator. Exactly where do you assume that you have the authority to tell me or anyone else what they can post. Unless it it a violation of the rules of the site; you can't.

Second, I never said that. What I said was the phrase is a Clinton campaign talking point. If you claim the phrase is just a “coincidence”; then that must be true.

So you are assuming that I did not read that or hear that? I never made that assumption about you. In fact I never made any assumption.

Second, what I said was it was strange that it was a coincidence

On the contrary, if that was true I would have made an affirmative statement declaring that the statement “unprecedented in history” was clearly copied. I didn't.

I just can't stop thinking about an old saying. “Me thinks thou does protest a bit to much.”

But, again. I am not making a negative comment about your character.

I am absolutely free, in conversation or in posts, to say: "Don't say that to me."

That statement does not constitute, in any form, a limitation of your free-speech rights. It means: "Don't say that to me."

Technically the mods and board owners are not under any obligation to provide free speech to any poster on this board. The first amendment only actually applies to the government silencing people.

THANK YOU. Private venues (of which Dimensions is one) are under no obligation whatsoever to allow freedom of speech.

Actually, it is you with the false argument. Donald Trump was asked to make an absolute pledge that he would not challenge the outcome. The “unprecedented in history” argument is bogus since Al Gore created the precedent.

Second, there was the mandatory recount as called for in Florida law. Al Gore still lost. Calling for a second recount in only Democratic counties with the most advantageous criteria for Al Gore was unprecedented.

So by this logic any poster can tell another poster what they are permitted to say to each other. How exactly does that promote discussion?

Second, if you don't wish to read what I post … Then you could put me on ignore.

Remember, the burden is on you to decide what you will read and what you will ignore.

That is legally correct, but as long as Hyde Park is considered a forum for the discussion of politics then there is an implied idea of free-speech. The antithesis of Hyde Park would be the GLBTQ forum. Which is considered a “safe space.”

Absolute pledge? Not really. He was given a couple of chances by the moderator to back down or explain in the way you're trying to, and refused to do so.
