I wasn't actually searching for it, Carrie. Someone posted it to a non-fat board that I frequent. I would like to know what search term would find it because I would be interested if the artist did other similar work.

Title: Fat Giraffe
Name: Thomas Mangold

Software: LightWave 3D

This is one of two shots I did for a Paris based advertising agency. Both images were used in a campaign for Zeiss binoculars and illustrate their quality to enlarge the stuff you see by using them. Lightwave has been my choice to create these models. While the giraffe has been finished pretty fast, the horse and jockey were pretty difficult to model and texture. Took me quite a long time, but in the end it's been worth it. Background for the giraffe has been shot by Ebo Fraterman, while I take all the credit for the horse image. Both images were included in the Shortlist at this year's advertising festival in Cannes.

It struck me as funny and cute, when I saw it. Not creepy or sexual. It reminded me of Gary Larson's The Far Side cartoons. I could imagine it having the caption, "What lions dream about."

Now, that person is really into fattening sentient beings. I'm not turned on by the pics but I find interesting the fact that the artist made them fat. The horse isn't as real looking as the giraffe; somehow the giraffe is cute. It's missing knee dimples though

BigDog is right, it does have a certain Far Side quality to it.

I think the horse reminds me of farm animal paintings from the Middle Ages. I'm not sure of the exact time frame, but I know I've seen similar ones of livestock made fatter than they would be.

Folk artists like Warren Kimble make their animals look bigger than reality.

Also, this cow much larger than a real cow in this 1800's painting.

Again, it's the fat plants here that catch the eye.

Well, Tull wasn't an artist, but an 18th c. english farm husbandry practitioner. And I remember seeing an image of a bull (I think? cow?) somehow associated with him, and it was ginormous. And that's what the horse made me think of.
