Default Welcome to the Story Writers Forum

Welcome to the Story Writers Forum!

This is the public face of the private Dimension’s Story Writers Guild. It’s a place for Guild members and their fans, as well as fans of Weight Related fiction generally, to share their thoughts and feelings.

So what is the Guild – and this Forum?

The Guild grew out of a survey of selected WR fiction authors conducted in June, 2007. The survey asked if a private Writer’s Workshop forum would help our authors develop plot lines, smooth out stories, and on occasion bail each other out of creative writing blocks. Our hope was to improve the quality and volume of our weight related fiction contributions.

“Great idea,” the authors surveyed replied. “But why does it have to be totally private? We all wish we knew more about what our fans feel and think. The private workshop part is fine, but why not a public portal as well.”

This was not just 1-2 writers; fourteen out of 24 respondents alluded to fan inclusion in one way or another, as being their desire. This is a reflection of the desire of authors generally to interact with their readers. We decided to move forward with the idea in the hope that our readers feel the same.

And so now you have it – a place where authors can post to their fans and vice versa.

The next step is inviting authors to join the Guild. We already have a core and will be extending additional invitations with the unveiling of this Writer’s Forum. At the end of September we will be posting names of the charter members of the Guild. These will be authors who are also members of the Dimensions community (sometimes under other names) who, among other things, are pledged to respond to your posts.

Each Guild member wll have a linked thread which readers of this Forum can access from a Guild member sticky among those at the top of the Forum.

As your ever-loyal Library curator I intend to be authoring and periodically updating a report on new and upcoming additions to the Library. Look for it as a sticky posted among its fellows at the top of the Fiorum (as a sticky it's presence won’t be noted on the Library marquee).

WHY WEIGHT RELATED FICTION AND A LIBRARY

There is a popular perception in some quarters that all Weight Related fiction is simply about women getting fat, usually for the excitement and titillation of men who don’t have enough of a BBW in their own life.

This perception is understandable, for some WR stories do indeed fit that description, but it is not a fair universal characterization. A review of the over 1500 stories in our collections quickly confirms this. There are stories here about large men as well, developing romantic reationships, dealing with weight in family, job and school situations, etc. Its not all eating and gaining. An increasing amount deals with accommodating to life in the fat lane at various levels – and our audience divides itself accordingly. We have diversity already, as reflected in our archival forums and the variety of stories posted there. We would like even more diversity in terms of themes - and hopefully thast will be one of the fruits of this forum and the Guild's workshop..

The fact is that each WR fiction writer writes to placate their own muse, and also a target audience. There is great variety in both. As a curator I, and other Library volunteers, wear several hats, among them moderator, coach, and policy maker.
As moderators we have to enforce the rules – which we do as lighthandedly as possible. The guidelines are published and modified as needed from time to time

As coaches we help writers with their stories – discussing plot lines, editing text, trying to make things better

As policy makers we plan content, developing material in advance and scouring the Internet looking for suitable tales and negotiating reposting rights.
Ultimately we are here to help our authors serve you, our readers, and to help readers enjoy and accept the reality of being heavier as something that’s nothing to feel bad about. Along the way we also entertain (this is, after all, fiction). That’s why we hope both groups will, in this forum, wind up helping each other.
