Default How Can I Keep From Singing?

How Can I Keep From Singing?
R.S. Lowry (1826-1899)

My life goes on in endless song
above earth's lamentations,
I hear the real, though far-off hymn
that hails a new creation.

Through all the tumult and the strife
I hear it's music ringing,
It sounds an echo in my soul.
How can I keep from singing?

While though the tempest loudly roars, [1]

I hear the truth, it liveth.
And though the darkness 'round me close,
songs in the night it giveth.
No storm can shake my inmost calm,
while to that rock I'm clinging.
Since love is lord of heaven and earth
how can I keep from singing?
When tyrants tremble in their fear
and hear their death knell ringing,
when friends rejoice both far and near
how can I keep from singing?

In prison cell and dungeon vile
our thoughts to them are winging,
when friends by shame are undefiled
how can I keep from singing?

**********************************
Since I mentioned my choral group "Womansong" earlier this morning, I received a phone call from one of the members.....a dear former Franciscian sister of 22 years and a wonder in her own 65+ year wisdom. It did my heart all the good it needed to hear her voice and encouragement and she reminded me of the lyrics of one of our mainstage songs........thought I would share the lyrics with all of you!
Hugs, Kara

Enya has also done this song, and done it well.

My girlfriend introduced me to this song. I dion't remember if I heard it by Motherlode, Fred Small, or someone else I wouldn't have known of if not for her.

Nice song. Kind of a "We Shall Overcome" feeling to it.

Very nice!

I've never heard of it before.

Thanks for sharing.
