Default People go craaazy -> Roberto Cavalli for H&M

Karl Lagerfeld
Stella McCartney
Victor&Rolf and now Roberto Cavalli!

People acted like maniacs yesterday because of the launching of the new Roberto Cavalli for H&M clothing line. After a quick search on the internetz I found a lot of the clothes a bit too glamorous for my taste (I don’t like animal prints, too much gold etc. ) I must admit that some of the garments looked quite expensive and not very H&M’ ish.

I’m sure as hell won't fit in those clothes, but I’m just wondering what you guys think of the concept. Is it cool that designers let people buy they're clothes for less or does it hurt the brands reputation and exclusivity?
Would you shopped there if the clothes was available in plus sizes?

Personally, I think it’s overhyped and I would rather spare my money for a real designer piece instead of 5 Roberto Cavalli for H&M's.

But it’s an interesting marketing strategy nonetheless.

I think it was Stella Mcartney for target here. I don't get why anyone would want a mass produced designer piece anyway. The whole point of wearing a designer's line is to be dressed in something that few other people will have. The quality of the clothing is apparently important to some (right!) but it's mostly for exclusivity. When you look at these chain store designers you often can't tell the difference between their lines and the basic store line.

On the other hand if I could fit into these clothes I may not be so quick to dismiss them.

Actually, I think that the reason most people would buy a mass produced designer piece is for the excellent design and quality. I think that most people don't give a damn, if their dress is one of five, or one of five million in the world. In the end, most people are looking for a great design and value.

Of course, there are those that buy limited edition designer stuff, bcs of the "exclusivity" idea, but in reality, unless they buy haute couture (as in items hand-made to their measurement at the design house), even the expensive limited edition pieces are in fact mass produced. In smaller quantities, but mass produced none the less.

I love Roberto Cavelli's designs, they're like glam pirate. Beautiful, original stuff. Not very wearable though. And too busy for fatties, I think.

The designer clothing that's sold in in low-budget stores like Target is, I understand, designed and manufactured by someone else entirely; the designer signs off on it and authorizes his name on the label.

There's such a huge difference between low-budget authorized knockoffs and haute couture that the designer's reputation doesn't suffer, IMO.

yep, they had a small hidden plus size corner in my town before they decided to remove it( i think they only sell plus size online now) I bought most of my clothes there a few years back. I absolutely agree. The clothing sucked.
Boring clothes made for women with zero personality imo

H&M opened in the West Edmonton Mall in the spring and it was a bloody zoo there. When I finally managed to get near the place and saw (and more importantly felt) the clothes that they were carrying, I couldn't work much indignation or disappointment that they weren't carrying plus sizes. Their stuff is crap. It feels horrible. WEM staff have no time to steam anything (due to volume and worker shortage- if another mall is getting 2 size runs of something, WEM will get 4 or 5 and Alberta's economy is insane) and the clothes are all wrinkled and pathetic looking.

I would be excited if Old Navy carried plus sizes up here (although sounds like they're relegating them to the web down in the US) and would love to get Lane Bryant up here, but things are slow.

Sephora opened in June or July. That left my Visa screaming for mercy. Maybe it's best if I'm stuck with just Cotton Ginny, Addition-Elle, Pennington's and Laura. I'm too crazy a shopper to be spoiled for choice.
