Default Foodee Board Introduction Thread

This is a much overdue, but hopefully welcome addition to the Foodee Board. Let's introduce ourselves. This can be freeform or use/choose from the questions below:
  1. Please tell us a little about yourself. Age, locale, work, family, whatever you'd like to share.
  2. Tell us a bit about your relationship with food. Are you a 'foodie' and, if so, what do you think makes you a foodie?
  3. Is there a special food, or type of food that would elect you president of its fan club?
  4. What is the freakiest or most fun food fact about you?
  5. Do you like to cook? Do you have a dish or dishes you consider your specialties?
  6. Do you think more about food or sex? (this might help with the "are you a foodie" question, above)

Any other questions that you think should be added, let me know, and I'll edited this post to include them.

I'll be brave and go first!

Please tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Randi. I am the Foodee Board moderator, a role I truly relish. (heh - couldn't resist.) I'm 52 (Don't think of that as old! Think of it as more than half a century of food experiences) and I live in central New Jersey. I am an AVP and marketing/promotion specialist with a large insurance agency, and have been with the company for 18 years. I'm divorced, and my only immediate family lives in Indiana - my sister and her family.

Tell us a bit about your relationship with food. Are you a 'foodie' and, if so, what do you think makes you a foodie?
Oh, I'm a foodie alright. I think about food all the time. It probably has too much importance in my life. I spend my days thinking about what I am going to have for my next meal. When I go on vacation, it's all about the native foods. I wonder if I am food-centric because growing up as a fat child, so many foods were forbidden.

Is there a special food, or type of food that would elect you president of its fan club?
How could lobster NOT elect me president of its fan club? But I think that shellfish in general should be included in that club (lobster, crab, scallops, clams, shrimp). I adore them all, and could make them proud.

Oh, and here's a little secret - I would cheat on lobster with crispy poultry skin. In a heartbeat. *swoon*

What are the freakiest or most fun food facts about you?
My relationship with menus. Oy! People who know me, know I can never make a decision about what to order. I think the only time it's easy for me is if there is a "combo" or "tasting" plate so I can try more than one thing. I always feel that narrowing it down to one dish isn't about what I want most, it's more about what am I not going to get to try!!

Another freaky thing is - I have a love/hate relationship with buffets. Yes, they seem like the perfect solution to my dilemma above. I get to try everything! But, there are 3 problems. First, the food is usually not very good. There are exceptions, of course, but generally buffet food is "eh". And second (this is the freaky part, I know) is that with buffets come the responsibility of "getting your money's worth". This I blame on my very frugal Mom. When we were growing up she taught us how to eat properly at a buffet. Skip the breads, go for the expensive foods. Stuff like that. Ugh. And third, along with getting one's money's worth - there is there is the limitations of one's tummy. I get so disappointed when I get full, and I haven't had everything I'd like yet from the buffet. In my younger days I would get overfull and hate it. Now I am smarter, and I stop. But it took years to realize what the balance should be between eating as much as I can versus eating as much as I want.

One more food fact about me: Just as it is pretty hard to find the perfect guy, the perfect bite is almost as elusive. I think, in both cases, my expectations are too high. I think I have a reputation on the boards for loving fancy, exotic meals, but seriously, I am often disappointed with restaurant meals. In reality, the simplest foods make me indescribably happy. The taste of in-season Jersey produce - tomatoes, corn, blueberries. They are only at their peak for a short time, but what a glorious time! I could give dozens of examples of really simple foods that rarely let me down. I think that's a good topic for another thread.

Do you like to cook?
I love to cook, but don't do it much for myself. I am inspired by an appreciative audience. Some of my specialties include pan seared scallops, fetuccini alfredo, lasagna and meatloaf.

Do you think more about food or sex?
That's easy. Food. I can have food all day long, so I think about it all day long. Even during sex. Kidding. Kidding. (sort of.)

Default What a fun thread Randi!

Please tell us a little about yourself.
Hola! My name is Christal and I'm 37. I'm married to a wonderful FA, Brian (for 4 years now) and together we have a beautiful son Luke (soon to be 3 yrs. old). Since Luke was born, I've been a stay-at-home mommy & wife. I also have an Ebay business and sell Avon.

Tell us a bit about your relationship with food. Are you a 'foodie' and, if so, what do you think makes you a foodie?
My picture is next to the word "Foodie" in the dictionary! I LOVE food! I think about it all the time and live for trying new foods and combinations. Growing up I was always told I need to lose weight. I was 8 when I was put on my 1st diet and 11 when I became anorexic. My mom was obsessed with being thin, especially with my being thin. Wonder what she would say now seeing that I'm not only overweight, but SUPERSIZED!

Is there a special food, or type of food that would elect you president of its fan club?
CHEESE! I eat cheese with practically EVERYTHING! I AM THE CHEESE QUEEN!

What are the freakiest or most fun foods fact about you?
Hmmm...freaky? Well, maybe not freaky, but I love to browse the internet for new recipes and try recreating them and amking them my own. I also love to watch the Food Network Challenges and hope to one day enter a baking or cooking contest in my area.

Do you like to cook?
I love to cook and if I do say so myself, I'm a pretty darn good cook! As for baking, I pretty much suck!

Do you think more about food or sex?
Ummmm...both! lol! Seriously, I guess I think more about food. What I'm eating tomorrow, what I'm buying at the grocery store, etc. I love food and I love sex...just not together.

Please tell us a little about yourself. Age, locale, work, family, whatever you'd like to share.

Hi. I'm Betty, age 39 (just like weight, age is only a number). My husband Frank and I live in central Wisconsin -- the real dairy state -- we both grew up on dairy farms. I currently work in customer service for a company that is a distributor for the dairy and other food industries. I do have a wide variety of jobs in my history though. I was a teacher for 15 years (8 as a sub and the other 7 in a residential treatment center for kids who've had legal and other issues). Summers I did things like work in a pizza factory, checkouts at a K-Mart, or supportive home care.

Tell us a bit about your relationship with food. Are you a 'foodie' and, if so, what do you think makes you a foodie?

I was fat as a kid, and I don't remember how old I was when Mom tried my first diet. I do recall Dexatrim in the 4th grade. I'd agree that making certain foods a no-no makes them all the more delicious and "gotta-have." I got really good at sneaking foods, and unfortunately still have that mentality at times, even though I'm accountable to no one but myself and my husband is definitely an FA.

I am such a foodie. I love to try new things, both in restaurants and if I'm doing the cooking. Savoring a mouthful and trying to identify flavor combinations is a fun game. I cook and bake, both quite well, if I do say so myself. I love to plan meals ahead, and to host family dinners. My dream house will start with a kitchen, and from there we'll look at other necessities.

Is there a special food, or type of food that would elect you president of its fan club?

It would have to be beef. Ground, Cube (pounded), steaks, in stews and stir frys, it's just the most versatile and provides an oh-so-satisfying flavor.

What is the freakiest or most fun food fact about you?

Except for baking, I don't rely heavily on recipes. I do a lot of "tweaking" certain ideas or that I don't really measure ingredients when cooking. My Mom always made homemade bread with a "dump" recipe she got from my paternal grandmother. I have learned this skill.

Do you like to cook? Do you have a dish or dishes you consider your specialties?

Oh, yeah!! I make a great lasagne, which I learned from a friend and then tweaked it to make it better.
[*]Do you think more about food or sex? (this might help with the "are you a foodie" question, above)

I'd have to say I think about food more often. I'm always planning the menus, looking forward to a special dinner, volunteering to bring a dish to pass for special events.

Please tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Tear . I'm in my 20s and I live in Washington, DC. I'm a grad student right now. Sorry, that's all you're going to get, folks! I'm a bit paranoid about revealing too much about myself on the internet, so you'll have to excuse me.

Tell us a bit about your relationship with food. Are you a 'foodie' and, if so, what do you think makes you a foodie?

I am definately a foodie, but the journey has been long and hard for me. I was bulimic, up until very recently, for about 2 years. It has taken me a long time to "make peace" with food. After soul-searching, therapy, and general 'freaking out' about my health, I am in such a great place right now with food. I guess you could call me a 'food snob'. Whereas I used to binge and purge on cheap takeout, I now take so much joy in selecting delicious foods, and preparing them myself. Ingredient quality is a big deal to me. I also have developed a LOVE of wine, my favorite is pinot noir, but I love to try new ones! I also love eating in new and different restaurants. Especially ethnic foods!

Is there a special food, or type of food that would elect you president of its fan club?

Hmmmm... I'd have to say cheese.....I love so many types. My current faves (aka what's in my fridge right now), are a black pepper goat cheese, and an Italian cheese with black truffles (which I can't remember the name of right now). Wine would also be up there for me!

What are the freakiest or most fun foods fact about you?

Honestly, besides what I already told you, not too much. Oh, wait! I hate hate hate the combo of fish and cheese together. Or meat and cheese for that matter (yeah I know, it sounds like I'm kosher or something, but I'm not Jewish!). Just a weird aversion that I have I guess.

Do you like to cook?

Oh yes, I love it. School/work can be very stressful for me, and cooking is, I'd say, my number one stress release. I always make my own breakfast (when I wake up on time), lunch (the cafeteria at school is revolting), and often dinner (when I'm not meeting up with friends at a restaurant). I love to try new recipes.

Do you think more about food or sex?

Hmmm... that would have to be a close one for me. I love food, but I also have a fabulous man

Please tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Christine. I am 44 yo and live in SW Florida with hubby and three furbabies. I am a stay at home "princess". I lived in NJ until mid 2000. That is an important fact in relation to food, because the food in general is much better in Jersey. We had a lot of access to ethnic food, bakeries, pizza and awesome summer produce.

Tell us a bit about your relationship with food. Are you a 'foodie' and, if so, what do you think makes you a foodie?

I am definately a foodie, and proud of it. It is probably the thing that I am best at. I think about food ALL THE TIME. I love to look at recipes, menus, food shows, and pictures of food. When anyone I know goes ANYWHERE, the thing I want to know is, "how was the food?, what did you have?, was it good?" If I put as much thought and effort into any other subject, other than food, I could be quite successful.

Is there a special food, or type of food that would elect you president of its fan club?

Cream cheese, for sure. I love all kinds of cheese and eat cheese every day. Cream cheese however has a special place in my heart. I believe that it is truly a universal food and should be held in a mucher higher regard than it currently is. Most people only know to shmear it on a bagel, and I think that is a great way to eat it as well. The other aspects of it though are quite amazing and it is a very versatile food. It can be used for both sweet and savory. There is never a day that I do not have at least one package of cream cheese in my house. Actually if you asked my family and friends this question, they would also answer cream cheese. It is one of the things that I am "known for".

What are the freakiest or most fun foods fact about you?

As a Virgo, I am into details and believe that adding a bit of this or that can really amp up a dish. I also collect menus. And I will admit this here only, I eat the cartilage from chicken bones. So sue me.

Do you like to cook?

I love to cook. And I love to share what I have cooked. I love it when others enjoy what I have made. It makes me very happy. Also, I love to make food that my husband actually stops and comments on, and asks what ingredients I used. I make him guess and then discuss the recipe with him. I love to watch and learn new cooking methods and food combinations and then play with them. I also like to make food that I can use as a leftover and challenge myself to rework it into something delicious. I also enjoy baking, when I am in the mood. I enjoy eating the baked goods alot and that is usually what prompts me to start baking.

Do you think more about food or sex?

Definitely food. There is no question. And I have also been known to let my mind wander "during" to the food that I may be enjoying "after". Don't get me wrong, I am in love with my husband and we have a normal sex life, but he knows as well as I do, if it is a choice between him and a chocolate cake (especially with cream cheese frosting), he is going to have to exhibit some fancy moves quick before I get to a fork.

Age, locale, work, family, whatever you'd like to share.
27 years old, born and bred in nyc (outer borough gal all the way!) currently temping but will become a full time teacher this fall.

Tell us a bit about your relationship with food. Are you a 'foodie' and, if so, what do you think makes you a foodie? I care about how things are prepared, not just any old slop thrown on the plate. I also have subscriptions to two food magazines, "Cooks Illustrated" & "Gourmet". Does that count? I think growing up in a family who liked to eat and living in a great food mecca help to cultivate my interest. One of my fondest childhood memories is my dad and I watching "The Frugal Gourmet" and him taking me into Manhattan to show me all the exotic produce and import items available at Dean & Deluca's. This was in the mid to late 80's and many of the items now found at the local supermarket were only available in speciality shops.

And on a separate note, my boyfriend likes to eat, but he has a terribly bland food palette. He loves to go to the Entermann's outlet. It makes me sad that he's not willing to experiment.

Is there a special food, or type of food that would elect you president of its fan club?
Cheese! We're going to have a cheese off here. There are so many varieties, but for me the sharper and more piquant the better. My favorite cheeses are stilton, maytag (okay love bleu cheese), pecorino romano, red dragon and this provolone studded with peppercorns I found at a local deli. I suppose I really enjoy pickled/fermented vegetables. I prefer umami/savory flavors to sweets.
What is the freakiest or most fun food fact about you?

I'll eat hot sauce straight. I also take forever to order at a restaurant. I also ask the waiter a million questions.
Do you like to cook? Do you have a dish or dishes you consider your specialties?

I do enjoy cooking but find it exhausting after a long day at work. I do batch cooking on my days off and freeze dinners in individual portions. I own too many cookbooks, gizmos and condiments. I should force myself to do it more. I do make a delicious macaroni & cheese must give myself "props" here.
Do you think more about food or sex? (this might help with the "are you a foodie" question, above) The former. ha!

Please tell us a little about yourself:
I am Pam, single, no kids, just a cat. 45 years old, extremely tiny kitchen that does NOT do justice to my desire to cook. I am ALWAYS on the lookout for single men who like short round women who can cook, so if you know anyone...................

Tell us about your relationship with food. Are you a Foodie and if so, what do you think that means?
I would probably describe myself as a sorta-foodie. I like to try new things, cook, watch Food Network (Iron Chef rocks). But, at the same time, there are quite a few food items I don't eat like shellfish, green beans and cooked green pepper. So am I a true foodie? I don't know. To me a foodie is someone who loves food, whether eating, preparing, discussing, critiqueing, whatever. But also, I think a "true" foodie isn't as picky as I am about certain things. When I watch Iron Chef America, I find that I probably wouldn't eat any more than about half the items they prepare. A true foodie would eat anything just for the experience, I guess.

Is there a special food or type of food that would elect you president of it's fan club?
I can think of three foods that I could be the fan club president for.....
Soup
Tomatoes
Corn on the cob
with Soup being the top contender. I love soup, LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I can eat it any day, any time of year. I am always looking for or creating new soups for myself. My standards are Pasta E Fagioli, French Onion, and Potato Leek, but I will throw anything into a pot and hope for the best. I was thinking of making some potato leek this week. I don't care if it's 90* out or not. Soup's good food

What is the freakiest or most fun food fact about you..
I am embarassed to say that I probably keep things in the fridge way too long, until they try to crawl out on their own. I have a raccoon issue in my neighborhood and can't put food out in the trash until garbage day morning, and I forget sometimes. So things occasionally grow hair..........sue me
A good thing about me, I love fresh tomatoes, and probably eat 3-4 a day when they are in season or on sale. I was not scared off by the salmonella problem, I just washed them and kept munching.

Do you like to cook?
Are you cereal? Absolutely I love to cook! And I love to cook for friends and family, I love when people are enjoying something I made, having great conversation, laughs, good wine, etc. It really makes me happy to share one of my few talents with people. I fell in love with cooking when I was a kid, my mother was an adequate 1970's meat-&-potatoes kind of cook, I learned the basics from her, but she really has no cooking imagination, herbs and spices to her are parsley and pepper. But, I discovered "The Frugal Gourmet" and watching his show opened a whole new world to me. I was a avid fan, bought all his books and tried all his tecniques. I think I really learned to cook from Jeff Smith. I learned from him to trust my sense of taste and to experiment with what might taste good. Also a sense of humor about not taking things seriously if recipes fail. Shit happens, we learn from mistakes.

Do you think about food more than sex?
Well, since I ain't gettin' sex, and I am gettin' food, I would say I think more about sex! See question #1 Unless you are talking about meat......er, steak.

1) I'll be 52 next month. I live in the beautiful PNW. I whine enough that the whole world must know by now that I'm serving a life sentence at the USPS. I've put in 31 years already and hope to be paroled 8/11. If it wasn't for being married to a wonderful man, I'd have probably found a cave and become a recluse by now. With cats of course.

2) I am a foodie, always have been I think although I'm more interested in the cooking than the eating. My Mom used to have me make her pie crust when I was a kid, because mine was better she said but I think she just didn't enjoy making it the way I did. I'm not much of a baker now except for bread. It's a much more exacting discipline and you can't fiddle around like you can with savories (although I do make all my own frostings and just doctor the cake mix). I think my Mom was a bit insulted when I pretty much left cans and boxes behind when I moved out, but scratch doesn't really take much longer and it tastes so much better.

3) My food fetish is definitely garlic. I've even eaten roasted garlic cloves dipped in chocolate at a garlic festival...they weren't half bad. After Miss T and Biggie's wedding, the husband and I spent a night in Gilroy CA on the way back to SF to catch the plane because I just couldn't not. If I have garlic, olive oil, Parmesan and pasta or good bread, I have dinner. Things like prawns, asparagus and a squeeze of lemon are just icing on the cake. One time I had roasted a large dish of peeled cloves with EVOO and sea salt to use in a recipe the following day and they were cooling on the table while my sister and I had a few beverages. We ate a few, and a few, and a few, and pretty soon the dish was empty. The next day her kids ran screaming every time we got within smelling range. Next to garlic? The one thing I never run out of is lemons.

4) Fun facts? Well, I haven't poisoned anyone yet. In 16 years my husband says I've only made something he wouldn't eat twice. I like to taste things, try to figure out what's in them and create my own, maybe even better, version. I know I'm succeeding when I get people to eat things they think they don't like and love them. Like egg rolls that got a vegetable hating, non-Chinese food eater to love them. I collect cookbooks and read them like novels but rarely use the recipes in them unless I'm trying to recreate something completely new to me and need a starting point.

5) One of the things I'm truly looking forward to when I retire is being able to cook as much as I'd like. Working swing (my choice) doesn't lend itself to cooking dinner as 11 pm is a bit late to be getting started. I don't know that I have specialties, but among the things I get asked for most often are those darn egg rolls, chili stack, shrimp macaroni salad, marinated pasta salad, spicy yaki soba noodles with stir fried vegies, stir fry in general, meat loaf, fried chicken, turkey stoup, rolls and a dish my husband calls pasta presto.

6) Food or sex? Ya gotta eat well to keep up your strength for good sex right?

Please tell us a little about yourself.

Hello. I'm Sarah, a light weight poster. I am a claims adjuster for a home warranty. I live with my best friend and my dog.

Tell us a bit about your relationship with food. Are you a 'foodie' and, if so, what do you think makes you a foodie?

I think I am a foodie. I had WLS several years ago and it seems that my taste buds woke up magically one day. As for my relationship with food I've always loved a lot of food, now I love a lot of flavor. Fair trade.

Is there a special food, or type of food that would elect you president of its fan club?

Fruit. It doesn't matter what type. Any time I go out of the states I make my way to the local market and spend some serious cash on every type of fruit there and then spend the afternoon trying everything new and exciting. Brazil has had the best fruit thus far.

What are the freakiest or most fun foods fact about you?

I cannot eat dry foods. Whatever I eat has to have sauce or something.

Do you like to cook?

I do like to cook. I live with a real world traveler and a master chef. So while I like to cook...I leave the master to his task. I'm fed very well.

Do you think more about food or sex?

Very real 50/50 split. Just no food during sex...I'm hardly George Castanza.

1. Please tell us a little about yourself. Age, locale, work, family, whatever you'd like to share.

Jamie, I am 35 and I live smack dab in the middle of Kentucky with my husband (still known as "the boy"), our two cats, and a puppy. I am the IT/Interactive Media Director for what was once a small medical consulting company. We have grown to about 200 people and more headaches than I care to think about.

2. Tell us a bit about your relationship with food. Are you a 'foodie' and, if so, what do you think makes you a foodie?

I am a foodee I think. I am fascinated by the relationships people have with food. It is used to comfort, celebrate, remember, seduce, sustain..and any number of other intentions. When I was growing up, it was sometimes unsure where the next meal would be found. We had a limited budget and my mother had a very limited repertoire. Food was a source of stress and for years I never ventured out at all. I ate a lot of country food and as much as I could find. When I left for college, I slowly began to discover other tastes and possibilities. I had moo goo gai pan when I was a junior and felt like I had discovered a new world. I think from then on, I had a different relationship with it. I love to learn new techniques, love to try new flavors and keep up on the web with egullet, several foodee blogs and all the cooking competition shows (Top Chef is my fave).

3. Is there a special food, or type of food that would elect you president of its fan club?

Ice Cream or breakfast food probably. I love, love, love breakfast - even if it is masquerading as dinner or lunch. Ice cream is technically my favorite food. I do a search for any special ice cream places in a town before we go there to visit.

4. What is the freakiest or most fun food fact about you?

I take my food apart - every time I eat with someone for the first time, I have to re-explain it. Sandwiches, hamburgers, casseroles, candy bars, cake, even things that are fried that have a breading on them. It has been a habit since I was a child and I cannot seem to break it. Ex: sandwich - I eat the meat, then the cheese if it has it - or anything else that might be on top, then I eat the bread. Anything that has components or is in layers...I eat them separately. I tend to do that with a plate of food as well, but I know lots of people who eat all of one thing and then move on to the rest.

The other thing is, I almost never want anything on my sandwich or hamburger. Just meat and bread. No ketchup, mustard or definitely no tomato or lettuce and probably no cheese. Sometimes some mayo, but that is about it.

5. Do you like to cook? Do you have a dish or dishes you consider your specialties?

I like to cook but do it very rarely these days. That is something I hope to soon rectify. I am thinking of starting a cooking blog because I thought it would give me something to work on other than work and also motivate me to actually put the effort in for something at home. Just trying to think of a good topic to work on though. We have been doing some experimenting with vegetarian recipes, so that might be the idea.

I make a great rum cake and a pretty good quiche...so I would consider those my specialties.

6. Do you think more about food or sex? (this might help with the "are you a foodie" question, above)

Depends on which one I am hungrier for? I guess? And sometimes both at the same time...

My name is Carla, I'm 34 and married to the best FA out there, Phil (wrestlingguy) We live in NJ with our 5 year old son (and future FA) Andrew

Tell us a bit about your relationship with food. Are you a 'foodie' and, if so, what do you think makes you a foodie?
Oh, I'm a foodie alright. I think about food all the time. I'm not very adventurous when it comes to trying new food but I could eat my old favorites day in and day out. I seem to always be hungry and craving something (usually carbs).

Is there a special food, or type of food that would elect you president of its fan club?
Italian food is my passion. I grew up in an Italian home so I was lucky enough to have some of the best homemade Italian food ever. Growing up on traditional homemade Italian food has make me very picky about what I eat. You'll NEVER catch me in Olive Garden. I honestly prefer to make my own Italian food this way I know it will be just like my Nana made it. I'm lucky Phil also grew up in a traditional Italian family (and he's an amazing cook) so when I'm not up to cooking I bribe him into making my favorite Italian meals.

What are the freakiest or most fun food facts about you?
I'm always hungry. I eat so much that I have to unbutton my pants for relief but within an hour I'm hungry again. I just don't get it.

Do you like to cook?
I love to cook, but don't do it much these days. Andrew is VERY picky so he would never eat anything I cook. Sadly, his diet consists of hot dogs, fruit loops, and cheerios.

Do you think more about food or sex?
Yikes, that has to be the hardest questions anyone has ever asked me....I can't pick. Over the years I've gained sexual pleasure from sex so to me they go hand in hand.

I have studied Horticulture since I was 15 yrs old, hold a Master Degree in Ornamental Horticulture and presently work for a Horticultural Broker for the past 17 plus years. I am single, never married, no kids. Two beautiful, black cats, Elvira almost 18 years old and MoJo 5 years old. I have been around NAAFA and the BBW community for about 25 yrs now, WOW!

I love food, think about it way too much but not more then sex!! What makes me a foodie is the sheer enjoyment I get from the simple flavors and smells that sent me into pure heaven. Or would that be the same for sex?

Is there a special food, or type of food that would elect you president of its fan club?

My favorite food is Mexican, but I know I would be the President of Italian Pastries and cookies. OH MY GAWD!!! My thighs are rich, thick, cannoli cream, my stomach is a giant, soft, powered zeppole and my arms are fat fluffy Cream Puffs, the Italian name for this delight is Bocconotti. "Boccone" is literally a mouthful. hahaha Or in my case, way more then a mouthfull.

What is the freakiest or most fun food fact about you?

Like so many other good foodies.. I can NEVER make up my mind what to order. I hate to miss out on anything. Just get Randi and I together for a meal and that waiter will be turned into a 'waiter'... for our order. LOL It's okay, we tip well and are long overdue for an outing, Randi! Who wants to join us?

Do you like to cook? Do you have a dish or dishes you consider your specialties?

Like to cook but LOVE to bake. Cooking would be lasagna, meatloaf, chicken w/dumplings and shepherds pie. Baking would be cupcakes, pies, sugar cookies, butter cookies, cheesecake, cream puffs, fudge and homemade peanut butter cups!

Do you think more about food or sex? (this might help with the "are you a foodie" question, above)

Okay, a true foodie would say food, but I do think about sex way more, just have to be honest here. hahaha But food and sex together, now we're eatin'!!!!!!

Please tell us a little about yourself.
Hi my name is Fran I'm 45, I'm a SSBBW and live in N.E. Ohio with my handsome wonderful husband Rich and his teenage son Adam. Rich also has a teenage daughter who lives with her Mom and she stays with us as often as she can. We also have 2 female 2 yr old kitties we just adopted from the shelter/foster home who are our fur daughters. I am a housewife now, but worked for many years with adults and children with developmental and physical disabilities. I managed group homes and enjoyed that work very much. People with developmental disabilities can be very loving and accepting and as a SSBBW I identified with how they are sometimes discriminated against by society. I also studied to be a teacher and got to do a lot of teaching in that line of work.

Tell us a bit about your relationship with food. Are you a 'foodie' and, if so, what do you think makes you a foodie?
Oh yes I am definitely a foodie, food makes my world go round. I love thinking about it, planning my next meal, watching cooking shows, reading cook books and recipes online. I have an emotional connection to food, I have foods I want to celebrate or console me, foods that bring back memories of happy family times or holiday celebrations etc. The only part of food I do not enjoy is the shopping for it, too exhausting for me anymore.

Is there a special food, or type of food that would elect you president of its fan club?
I guess I am a big fan of the chips and dips and mixed nuts and salty snacks. I try not to over indulge in these because I know once I start I wouldn't want to stop. I also love cheese, Mexican and Italian food and of course Stouffer's Mac and cheese which to me is heaven.

What are the freakiest or most fun foods fact about you?
Well one time I tried to see how many McDonalds cheeseburgers I could eat and I ate eight but I was really sick afterwards No I think actually the weirdest thing about me is how many foods or food combinations I don't like. I think I have mentioned them here before but I am not a fan of biscuits, crusts, any hot bread really, pasta salads, wraps, they make me hostile, seafood, coffee, beer, wine, cottage cheese, oh I could go on and on but as a foodie and as a SSBBW you wouldn't suspect there there should be so many foods I wont eat.

Do you like to cook?
Yes I do love to cook, but as the only person who is cooking in my household, except for when my husband grills, which he is getting very good at, I enjoy my days where I don't have to as well. I am a fairly good cook and learned a lot from my Mother who was a VERY good cook. I am not super creative yet but I do follow a recipe pretty good and sometimes change it up a little to make it my own creation. I have been told I make a great meatloaf and casseroles, I try.
.

Do you think more about food or sex?
To be honest I think more about food, but which craving is stronger? It depends on how hungry/horny I am at that moment.

Default oh what fun

Please tell us a little about yourself. Age, locale, work, family, whatever you'd like to share.
58 year old guy from the New Haven area. Go to the end of the Metro North line and I'll pick you up in 8 minutes. I am an accountant for a community health center. Founded by Yale. Masters in Urban Studies from Southern Connecticut State U. Worked for non-profits most of my life. The most liberal Republican you will ever find. Devout Catholic, I sing in the choir and read scripture at mass. Huge Women's basketball fan. Mets fan. Enjoy gambling, at the racetrack and at a craps table primarilly. Wife of 27 years and four kids. One is a lesbian (the daughter not the wife). Italian, English, Scot, Irish, German, Cherokee (don't laugh - I even know which county in North carolina), Greek. But mostly Italian. I like to give more than I like to recieve.
I was involved in NAAFA events since 1970's, but my most active period was 76-82, 87-90, and recently.

Tell us a bit about your relationship with food. Are you a 'foodie' and, if so, what do you think makes you a foodie?
How am I a foodie, let me count the ways.
1- I have been on and asssisted in hundreds of restaurant reviews in Connecticut, Westchester, New Jersey and NYC.
2- I used to be a sous chef in San Francisco - alright, alright it wasn't for long but still, I did it.
3- My mom wrote a cookbook.
4- I collect cookbooks.
5- I've visited the Culinary Institue of America, and consider it the most romantic place on earth.
6- I think that cooking is the sexiest thing a man can do.

Is there a special food, or type of food that would elect you president of its fan club?
oh boy where do we start - Ratatouille!
But I could go in so many directions. Country ham, biscuits and gravy, Braciole, Scallops wraped in Bacon, Softshell Crabs, Matzoh ball soup, Fruit salad, Cincinnati five way chili, Paella, right now I'm baking Connecticut bluefish with a lime parsley sauce.

What is the freakiest or most fun food fact about you?
Back in the 1970's I had very long hair, and me and a friend were driving across the border in Detroit heading to Windsor. We were up to no good. But that is what Windsor has always specialized in. The border officer stops us and asks the usual questions. I was half asleep in the passenger seat of my VW. Do you have anything to declare? Do you have any firearms, alcohol or taobacco? What are you entering Canada for? Where is your place of birth? ... Then when he was done questioning my friend Frank, who was a 350 pound 6 foot 2 guy, he asks:
"and the lady?"
I look over at him, with a full beard and said, "I was born in the United States, sir"

We had about 250 bottles of beer in the car and he got so flustered he let us by. That didn't have a lot to do with food but it's a funny story.

Do you like to cook? Do you have a dish or dishes you consider your specialties?

Wel of course I love to cook. I like making 5 way chili, fruit salad, Veal saltimboca, manicotti, beef soup, lemon bars, coquilles St Jacques, Brunswick Stew, Beef Brisket with Tsimmes, Fried Chicken, homemade french fries,
and broiled seafood.

Do you think more about food or sex? (this might help with the "are you a foodie" question, above

I want to eat before and after I even think about sex. I want women to think a lot about eating, then sex. I want to think about sexual food - penis shaped pasta, rocky mountain oysters, asparagus, canolis (well as Melanie used to sing - a thing's a phallic symbol is it's longer than it's wide!)

As an aside - I had great fun reading everyone's comments - especially those whom I have spoken to at the Bashes and you know who you are. And you are all very sexy.

Please tell us a little about yourself.
I'm Shannon, 29 from Northern California. I'm in entertainment/film hoping to eventually be the one making the films instead of just bringing them to the public.

Tell us a bit about your relationship with food. Are you a 'foodie' and, if so, what do you think makes you a foodie?
Yes I'm a foodee. I think I am one because I see a big difference between myself and my friends, co-workers. I know a lot of people who enjoy what they eat, but once they're satisfied they don't think about food any more until they are hungry again. I on the other hand like to read about food, watch food tv, learn how to make variations on recipes and get new ideas about food combinations. I would consider my mom a foodee, so I guess I get it from her.

Is there a special food, or type of food that would elect you president of its fan club?
I think green chile would elect me president. Every year we'd buy a few bushels of anaheims, new mexicos, and/or big jims. I spent many a summer hours roasting, peeling and bagging green chiles to freeze for use throughout the year. We used green chile at breakfast in our eggs, for lunch in a burrito, and for dinner in a stew. To me the smell of roasting chiles still brings me right back to my mom's kitchen and I feel at home.

What are the freakiest or most fun food facts about you?
Hmmm...I'm not sure. I guess some people would find it kind of freaky that I've been a vegetarian for the past 15 years. And considering if you asked my mom what she enjoys most, she'd say meat, I guess it is a little odd. I just never cared for meat. I think this is what really solidified my foodeeness though, since I had to seek out my own ways to prepare meals from the age of 14.

Do you like to cook?
I love cooking with or for others mostly. Especially in Mexican cooking you get several people in the kitchen like an assembly line making tamales, enchiladas, etc. That is when it's the most fun, the music going, every one laughing and talking. Right now, though I live by myself. It's not nearly as fun. I do however really enjoy it when I try something new and it comes out good. My specialty is baked corn and green chile pudding. Sounds odd, but is so yummy.

Do you think more about food or sex?
Probably food. I'm not sure though because they are both such different types of thoughts. For me thinking about food is conscious and deliberate. Thinking about sex is often more of a visceral reaction. So if you count every time I'm attracted to someone....Nope, probably still food

Please tell us a little about yourself. Age, locale, work, family, whatever you'd like to share.

Hello, I'm Elisa. I am 25 years of age. I live in Houston, Texas with my family, which consists of my parents, two younger sisters, and a baby brother. Currently, I am not employed as of today, but looking for employment. I just graduated college with a Bachelor of Arts degree in both Political Science and Psychology. I do plan on furthering my education, and would also like to teach, so looking into Alternate Certification. Oh, and I'm also Single.

Tell us a bit about your relationship with food. Are you a 'foodie' and, if so, what do you think makes you a foodie?

My relationship with food is special. I absolutely love food. Whenever I eat, I always eat everything on my plate, hehe. I would like to say I have foodie tendencies. I am also always thinking what I wanna eat for my next meal, and sometimes even for the next day! I dont understand sometimes, how people can actually say they forget to eat! I try to be open about trying new foods, but I'm so picky. For instance, I dont really like vegetables much.

Is there a special food, or type of food that would elect you president of its fan club?
Hmm.. Ice-cream.. I can never have enough of that... Cake as well!!!

Do you like to cook? Do you have a dish or dishes you consider your specialties?

No.. I do not like to cook! I dont have much experience with it, and thats only because I dont have the patience to do it. The only time I cook is when my mom doesn't cook. I guess thats one of the perks of living at home, lol.

Do you think more about food or sex? (this might help with the "are you a foodie" question, above)
Uhhh... Id have to say.. I'm split. I think about them both equally.

I'm Brandi and I'm 33, and I live in Hamilton, Ontario. I am single but I do have an identical twin....she was born 29 years after I was...she is four and my daughter lmao! I work for a preschool and a daycare. During a school year I cook for 75 picky children who usually love me by the end of the year lol. During the summer, it's 25 children.

My mom was a caterer, and I pretty much was taught from the moment I was conceived how to cook. I love to try out new recipes, pretty much always looking for something new.

Fun food fact is, maple syrup is illegal in my apt, if you bring it in, I will let you eat it and make you watch fried green tomatoes(remember how they got rid of the body - bbq anyone?)! (winks at SVS)

Do you like to cook? Do you have a dish or dishes you consider your specialties?

I'm Megan. I just turned 30 a week ago and live in northern California. I am a stay at home mom to 1.75 boys. (the .75 one will be around in 21 days). I have been married for 10 years and i married a guy who loves food too.

Tell us a bit about your relationship with food. Are you a 'foodie' and, if so, what do you think makes you a foodie?
I have always loved food. From an early age, my mom would restrict my food and put me on diets (a six year old on a diet, can you imagine!?) So this made me covet food even more. I love trying new dishes and tastes. I am a bit picky when it comes to textures. I have issues if the texture is too chewy or slimy.
I grew up enjoying foods from all around, Iranian food, Indian food, Italian, Mexican, Ethiopian, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese. All that stuff was fun and good to eat.

Is there a special food, or type of food that would elect you president of its fan club?
Of all the ethnic foods l like, macaroni and cheese is my favorite.

What is the freakiest or most fun food fact about you?
hmm freaky? I'm a lacto vegetarian. (no eggs, meat but do eat dairy)

Do you like to cook? Do you have a dish or dishes you consider your specialties?
I love to cook when the kitchen is clean and I'm not pregnant. I would say that my specialty is Enchilada soup with cilantro salad. Most people poo poo the idea of a salad mostly comprised of cilantro but once they try it, they ask for recipes

Do you think more about food or sex? (this might help with the "are you a foodie" question, above)

ha ha, you bet i do!!

1. Please tell us a little about yourself. Age, locale, work, family, whatever you'd like to share.

Hi! I'm known as Punkin at Dimensions. I am 51, live near Abilene, TX. I work as an Item Processing Specialist for the First Financial Bankshares group. I am married and we'll celebrate our 30th anniversary this coming November. We live in the country and have 10 cats! Also, I graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work. Hubby and I have formed a non-profit organization (BEK Foundation) to aid families that have lost everything due to disaster (flood, fire, etc.).

2. Tell us a bit about your relationship with food. Are you a 'foodie' and, if so, what do you think makes you a foodie? I posted that I was a foodee (versus a feedee) long ago on the Weight Board. I love food. My favorite channel on t.v. is The Food Network. I inherited my love of food from my Mom. My step-Dad once commented that we talk about food way too much.

4. Is there a special food, or type of food that would elect you president of its fan club? Oooo, that's a toughie. I have so many loves! Currently, it would probably be pasta! I love pasta in all forms. You can do so many things with pasta. I love it in salads, as a main dish, side dish...I even have a fruit salad that includes pasta - that dish alone is almost a dessert.

5. What is the freakiest or most fun food fact about you? I'll choose freaky. I often fantasize about being the last person alive and running amok in both a candy story and a bakery (can you tell I love sweets!).

6. Do you like to cook? Do you have a dish or dishes you consider your specialties? I love to cook, but, most of the time I don't. I used to bake cookies by the dozen during the holidays and my hubby says I'm the dessert and veggie expert in our house.

7. Do you think more about food or sex? (this might help with the "are you a foodie" question, above) As I get older, food is becoming more important to me.

I'll add that Dimensions is the only place I feel totally free to discuss my love of food. My family doesn't encourage this side of me as they believe I need to lose weight.

What a great idea. It's nice to hear some nice personal details from folks.

Hmmm. Let's see. I'm 43 years old, a mom of three grown or nearly grown kids, married to Burtimus, a BHM who also posts here from time to time. I'm an obstetrical nurse with a long long long history of involvement in women's health, particularly as it relates to childbirth. I live in Alaska, but hope to move back to the PNW in two years or so.

I have a love/love relationship with food so I think that makes me a foodie. I'm really interested in using good ingredients and enjoy cooking a lot. I collect cookbooks and gizmos and cooking gadgets. What's challenging for me now, though, is that I'm used to cooking for an army. With the kids out of the house (or nearly so) and being post-WLS I end up making way too much of everything but I'm learning to scale things back a bit.

I have a deep and abiding love of garlic, onions, curries, any kind of ethnic food and sushi. Unfortunately, my cooking skills aren't up to it so I haven't tried making a lot of ethnic stuff. But someday...

Nah, I'm an equal opportunity food lover. I tend to go on food jags, eating a particular food or type of food until I'm sick to DEATH of it. Then I move on to something else.

Hmmm. I put ketchup on eggs. I think that makes me pretty freaky. Oh, and I adore olive loaf.

My kids are super fond of two things I make: homemade mac and cheese and fettucini alfredo. I also make wicked biscotti (with cranberries and almonds), and a cake called "blueberry buckle" that is delish.

Hmmm. Food. But I think sex is more fun.
