Default Fresh Seasonal Fruit

I am loving this time of year. This week I have gotten a 4 lb bag of oranges ($1.00), several pounds of grapes (.97 a pound) and a quart of strawberries ($1.50). Think I will just have fruit for dinner tonight.

What are y'alls favorite kinds of fruit?

I think I have been through 4 bags of oranges the past few weeks. Sometimes you get those $1 bags and they are iffy...sometimes not too sweet and blah. But lately they have all been wonderful. Also I LOVE mangoes...but I dont get them too often, so when I do it is a nice treat.

I live in Michigan and finding good fruit is hard right now. Soon, it won't be a problem. I bought some grapefruits and they were so bitter. They were charging about 1.50 a piece, but weren't worth it. I suppose a lot has to do where they are importing the fruit from. I am craving some Traverse City cherries though. Oh, and Nectarines!

I LOVE fresh fruit.

My favorites are raspberries, pomegranates, and tangerines, followed by granny smiths, bananas, strawberries, grapefruit, and oranges.

Oh sure. I won't even TELL you how much I spend for a bag of friggin' apples. And a quart of strawberries? About $7. It's crazy, I tell ya.

I love melons, berries, apples (with peanut butter), grapefruit, pineapple, and the occasional orange. Oh and really really tart plums. So good.

Mmmm summer cherries from Michigan. Is there anything better? Actually, the one produce item I really really miss is SWEET CORN. In the fall, there's nothing better than Indiana sweet corn, locally grown and sold out of pick-up trucks by the bushel. There is no substitute, I tell you. I've been in Virginia for two sweet-corn seasons, and, this year, I'm going to have to make a trip home.

Fruit is one of my favorite foods in the world. My favorites are:

Cherries, melons of any kind, golden kiwi, pineapple, plums, apricots, peaches, nectarines, any kind of berries, certain kinds of grapes, and I adore tangerines and oranges, but I cannot eat them, much to my dismay.

Princess, those are a fabulous variety of cherry. They're so dang expensive that I can rarely afford to buy them, though.

I find the price varies quite a bit, at the first of the season the are criminally high 11.99 a pound at times, as the season goes down they drop in price. I once got them for 3.99 a pound. I eat these things like crazy (I must admit, I will even buy a few at the 11.99 a pound)

Tina you have such good taste hehehe! Good morning! Have a great weekend.

I've never tried them. I wonder if we get them in NJ?

I LOVE fruit. love love love it. I especially love a fresh fruit salad loaded with seasonal treats - watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupe, strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, pineapple, mango, and on and on!

I love melons, and when I was in Cancun the breakfast buffet at the hotel had watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew juices every day. Devine!

I love almost-ripe bananas. I love big fat jersey blueberries in season. Luscious ripe strawberries. Sweet cherries. I am craving fruit now!

I have two peach trees (Spring Lady, and Elegant Lady) and one apple tree (Granny Smith). My Spring Lady produces large fruit, but it was really sparse last year. The Elegant Lady produces a smaller peach, but lots and lots of them. I'm going to reduce the number of buds to see if I can get larger fruit.

The Granny is a mature tree, but I had a lot of borer problems. I don't think I was doing enough spray applications.

Also, I have a raspberry bush that produces throughout June. I got 14 cups total last year (which I used for two batches of raspberry jam)

I want to plant some blackberry starts this year.

Oh, mango!

SVS, like you I just love fruit. They have Pink Lady apples out right now that are marvelously sweet, and are wonderful sliced and dipped into crunchy peanut butter.

Princess, you are a woman after my own heart -- but then I somehow knew that right away after 'meeting' you here. Yeah, even at the high prices, I have to buy a few. But, you know, I *always* want more than a few!!!

I bought one of those bowls they have at the grocery store with melon that's been cut up -- watermelon, honeydew and cantaloupe -- and I have to say, they're all ripe and sweet and so damned good it's hard to stop eating.

No one has mentioned plums I think..OMG I could eat like 5 of them at a time. In the summer, I mainly eat nothing but fruit and popsicles. Just because it gets so hot here and the last thing I want to eat at the end of the day is something heavy.

Prices are still too outrageous here...I'll give it a few weeks.

That's my biggest complaint about fruit. I love fruit and would eat tons of it, but dayum the prices could bankrupt a person.

I don't much care for regular mangoes, but those little honey mangoes are to die for. They kind of taste like a cross between a peach and raspberries. Since those are two of my other favorites I guess it's no surprise. Can't wait until local peaches are available. Today we went to the grocery store hungry and came home with honey mangoes, grannies, grapes, tangelos and pineapple. We have 'til friday to eat it all before we go out of town. Not too smart.
