ALS Again can now change their title
Default Post-Election Violence

Do you think that the election will result in possible violence?

I'm worried about it. Many of Trump's supporters have said they plan to cause violence if he loses.

Actually, it more likely to be done by people oppose to Donald Trump. In fact, there are many examples of violence by opponents of Trump pre-election.

I could see it happen under the right circumstances very close popular & electoral college count, widespread reports of fraud on one or both sides. The biggie would be if the electoral college voters say FU to the voters and elect whoever they choose. Yes, it could get messy with pissed off people from all points on the spectrum.

There will be isolated incidents, I fear, but nothing coordinated or widespread. When Trump loses, a few of his unhinged followers will likely act out.

I see from the quotes that Deliman is sending his usual missives from an alternate universe.

And, if Trump wins … Will the arrogant left accept it? Will we be told the public voted not in their best interests? Will we see riots in large urban areas as people protest Trump's election while the Democratic mayors will order their police to stay back.

If Trump some how wins (not fucking likely) and tries to implement his racist, xenophobic, and misogynistic policies there will indeed be reactions. Which of course is not the same as throwing a a hissy fit because you lost an election.

That is, of course, what I said. If Donald Trump is elected; I would expect his political opponents to do as you suggest and throw a “hissy fit.” Maybe not physical violence, but vows to do everything legally possible to oppose Trump up to and including civil disobedience.

After all, arrogant liberals live in their own little reality and they can not understand why people don't agree with the world view. That is unless they are one of Hillary Clinton's “deplorables”

Conservatives have a strange understanding of tolerance. For liberals it means that people be free to live their private lives as they see fit. Conservatives it means that they get to impose their views on other people's private lives.

The liberal version is worth fighting for -- the conservative version worth fighting against.

I think no matter who wins you will see isolated incidents of the extremists protesting the results. How violent they get is a different situation. I hope we don't see violence. I hope we can maintain some kind of decorum as one president leaves and another takes office.

No, that is not facts. That is called political posturing. When Vice-president Biden said he would beat up Donald Trump for what he said. Did anyone take it seriously?

Next time come up with real examples.

Can you explain the workings of the electoral college to me? Embarrassingly, I know little about this part of our government. I don't understand how voter choice could be overridden.

The electoral college is essentially Congress voting for President. Each member of Congress get one vote. Traditionally, each member votes according to the popular vote of their individual state. Now it can get funky when one or more electoral college members DO NOT vote according to the popular vote of their respective home states. Imagine if say, California 's popular vote went for Clinton but a few members of their delegation voted Trump. Or a similar scenario in Texas where Trump won and the delegation split amongst Trump, Clinton and Johnson. The voters are merely voicing their preference but it is Congress that makes the final call. They are not legally beholden to the popular vote. Now, smart money says you respect what the voters say or you run the risk of getting canned in your next election. Going maverick can make things a game changer.

Yeah, well, "going maverick" in practice doesn't happen. Only one elector EVER has voted for a candidate other than the one he/she was pledged to. Most states have laws binding the electors to vote for the candidate they are pledged to, and not doing so is a criminal act. Those laws only cover the first round of voting, so if there is a deadlock and more votes are necessary the electors are released to vote as they will. A second (or more) round of votes may have been necessary at some point or another in Electoral College history, but I can't think of any.

In short, Electoral College shenanigans just don't happen.

The liberal version is worth fighting for -- the conservative version worth fighting against.
Is this that alternate universe where liberals are tolerant? Even tolerant of conservatives?

Then why do some liberals refer to Associate Justice Clarence Thomas and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as an Uncle Tom and Aunt Jemima? Since they are so “tolerant” of their non-liberal views. That must be also why they are called oreos?

“Tolerance” must be why conservative women like Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann and Michelle Malkin are disrespected by liberals that claim they are not “real” women? Is it tolerance when a famous liberal like David Letterman suggests that Sarah Palin's minor daughter should be raped by a baseball player and get “knocked up” as a result?

Is it an example of liberal tolerance when a conservative speaker like Ben Shapiro is invited to speak at a California university by a conservative student group; and rather than just ignore him. Liberal students along with their teachers do everything in their power to prevent Shapiro from speaking? Like blocking the doors to the lecture hall?

The truth is many liberals are intolerant. In my opinion, it is due to the arrogant nature of so many liberals that think they are always right.
