Default The Rules

I recall when Hyde Park was taken down. It was claimed the reason was some posters could not follow the rules. Others, like myself, claimed the rules were fine; but they were not always fairly and uniformly enforced. For example, the poster who was banned temporarily until after the election with no apparent violations of any of the rules.

When the Soap Box was set up it had it's own rules. If a post was questioned on whether it violated the rules, the post would be temporarily removed and a message posted that post was subject to review by three Mods.

If two of the Mods felt the post was not in violation; then it would be restored along with a message explaining what happened.

If on the other hand, two of the Mods felt the post was in violation then the post would be permanently removed along with a message to that effect along with either a yellow card or red card issued.

Recently, in the Political Image Thread two different posters seemed to endorse physical violence against people that they disagreed with politically. Now the posts are gone. There was never a message that they were removed subject to Mod review. There was never a message that such a review took place. Nor were yellow or red cards issued.

So were the rules bent? Were the offensive posts “voluntarily” removed after a PM exchange between a Mod(s) and the posters?

The rules were not bent but applied by unanimous consent within the mod team.

Meaning the 3 pic-posts violating the thread and forum rules were removed. Since the posts consisted only of the violating image, there was no need for us to "consult" with the posters as there was no possible remedy to the violation.

And frankly - all of the mod team currently has a lot on their plate personally and professionally, so expending time on obvious issues is not high on our to-do-list right now.

Why did the pictures of violence at political demonstrations violate the rules?

1) As the forum header clearly states, the thread is for political images/comics. That means a humorous, satirical, comic depiction of political events.
Not pictures of actual political events and actions, which can be found all over the news.

2) As the Soap Box rules state under 2.) "invocation of violence" is not allowed.

Yet, there is a reason this thread is in the Board Business forum and not the Soup Box. The two deleted posts were just examples of how the rules of the Soup Box were applied.

Not the posts, but the rules themselves.

I can appreciate the Mods have busy lives outside of Dimensions and the Soap box, but these are your rules. If you expected posters in the Soap box to respect your rules; then you should respect them as well.

And, as a practical matter … How hard would have been for one of the Mods to insert a post stating why the two posts were removed and if a yellow or red card was issued.
