Mine has to be "How to Serve Man". I'm afraid of aliens as all get out!
Wiki link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_Serv...ilight_Zone%29 I don't want them to harvest my organs and cook me in an intergalactic stew. |

I believe that "Time Enough At Last" and "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street" are two of the best and most chilling of the series.

In light of all the celebration of cosmetic surgery over the last 40-or so years since the episode was written, "Number 12 Looks Just Like Me.", is beyond spooky and into the prescient on the order of "1984."
I have to applaud Sci-Fi Channel. Every so often they are required to contribute to, "Cable in the Classroom", and they show two or three of the more thought provoking episodes without commercial interruption. It's a great idea in my opinion. TZ is a modern-day, "AEsop's Fables." Something every impressionable child should watch. Hell, even adults can learn a lesson or two about being a better person from watching them. (ETA: Corrected a spelling mistake)

There's a TZ episode that I believe is written by the one and only Richard Matheson (well duh! He contributed the most TZ scripts) about these astronauts that discovered another spacecraft destroyed on a planet. They board the planet to discover the three dead crew members are THEM! Freak-outism ensues.
What was that episode called??? |

The TZ was one of the best shows ever created. I think one of the strangest episodes in a freak you out sort of way was "long distance call" in which a dead grandmother was found to be talking to her grandson on a toy phone. There were so many top notch episodes that you are hard pressed to pick just one to be the best of this or that. I also especially liked "the obsolete man" and "still valley."

Oh man, "Eye of the Beholder" was freakin' scary. Remember, the woman is getting plastic surgery to fix her horribly "deformed" face? I think that was the title... I also like the episode about the Earth gradually moving closer to the sun and everything was melting... I don't remember that title. |

I like the one with Shatner and the Gremlin.

When I was a kid, watching the series when it first ran, the one that freaked me out was "Little Girl Lost," the one where the girl falls into another dimension through a rift in the wall. I knocked on my bedroom walls - to make sure they were solid - before I went to bed for weeks after seeing that 'un . . .

The one with Dennis Hopper (I think) was also really creepy to me, for some reason. He plays a quiet guy who never fits in and he eventually falls in love with a doll in a doll house at a museum... Anyone remember that one? |

My favorite episode was:
A Stop At Willoughby, about an stressed out ad exec whos life is falling apart and on the train ride home from work every night he dreams the train has stopped at a slow paced town in the 1880's and finally one night he decides to get off there... Later in life I really identified with that episode.... An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge is another favorite. When I was a kid the scariest ones to me were: The Shelter The New Exhibit Long Distance Call Those and many others ![]() For scary episodes I like a show called "One Step Beyond" that actually predated TZ. Some of those were trully spooky and they were all claimed to be based on true occurances.... Dave |

That was "Prisoner in the Mirror". It also had Marion Ross in it.
I also liked "The Grim Reeper" about a cursed painting. Everyone that owned it died a guesome death. Had William Shatner and Ms Howell from Gilligans Island in it ![]() Yes, Boris Karloffs Thriller was a great show. Its a shame it only lasted 2 seasons (due to Boris Karloff passing away). I still have the episodes on Laser Disc but as far as I know they have never been officially released on DVD thought people are selling non official ones on Fleabay. Journey into the Unknown also had a few good episodes... Dave |

The episode when the guy works at a library and goes down to the vault to have lunch and a nuke goes off killing everyone in the world. Needless to say this one guy is left on earth. He isn't bothered by this much, because his love of life is reading. He makes his way to the city library and finds stacks upon stacks of books, and not a soul around to tell him to get to work. He picks up a stack and sits down to start to read. When he sits down he drops his glasses and smashes them into about a million pieces. He is devested and can no longer read. This is so scary to me because for one I am afraid of being alone, I need people and social interaction to feel safe. Also its just so ironic that this guy finally has all the time in the world to do what he loves and such a small thing happens to prevent him from reaching his love of books. So sad

I really wish this show was around my generation.
I vaguely remember an episode about a man who talked way too much. He then took on a huge wager that he would stop speaking for a determined amount of time. The end result was him cutting out his tongue to win the bet. I wish I could find more info on this episode.

Even though it wasn't really a scary episode "The Hunt" was one of the more touching episodes. Its about a backwoods man and his dog out hunting and his dog chases a racoon into a river and when he doesn't resturn the man goes in looking for him. Later they return back home only to find a wake being held and he realizes its him and that he and his dog are dead. They then follow a road and get to a gate but the gatekeeper says he will hold the dog while he checks it out inside but the dog barks angrilly at the gatekeeper so he decides to go further down the road where they encounter another gate and they are both welcomed there and find out the previous gate was hell.
This episode was written by the same guy that later wrote "The Waltons" tv shows. Dave |
