Default Oh absolutely.

Same goes for us, but since I only have experience dating men, I kept it to them.

I always say this...

A manly man....
Not overly sensative but still caring....
Has something their passionate about (I would probably connect more with someone who was passionate about music but just being passionate in general is a fair quality)
Intelligent but not a know it all.
Loves cats.
Funny...and gets my sense of humor at the same time.
Opinionated (like me) but can be confident in your opinion and not back down just because I don't agree with you.
Gosh..there are alot.
For a person who has NEVER dated...I sure have this great big idea in my head what the perfect man would be...
Watch.....I bet....I am sooooooooooooo wrong.

Emotionally mature and reasonably centered.
Can be totally goofy.
Smart, with a curious mind.
Likes to read.
Hot for my bod.
A manly man, who wants to keep me safe, protected, and treasured.
Compassionate and kind.
Faithful.
Loves to laugh, and has a great sense of humor.
Self-confidence without arrogance.
Solid, steady...but still fun-loving.
Sees the good in people, while still being able to make wicked jokes about the bad in them.
Upbeat, generally.

A lot of this comes off as trite, like a bad personals ad, lol. A few of the things I wanted to say were what I didn't want. No pouters, or passive-agressiveness. No angst. A guy who, when we argue, doesn't try to game play, but fights it out, and makes up five minutes later. One who knows that the whole world doesn't revolve around him.

Yeah, I know I'm dreaming.

No, you're not, rip -- I've got him -- you have just so described my guy. And while he is an original, I know there must be more men out there that fit your description. They say that the good ones come to you when you least expect it. I'm not sure how "they" know, or who "they" are, but it was true for me.

Hey, Cliches tend to become cliches because they're useful, the basic hammer and crowbars of our verbal tools.

I definitly need someone who likes to laugh, someone who can see all the beauty in life and someone who respects me and my ways. I am an independent person, so he will have to be somewhat independent as well. I like intelligence but I hate know-it-alls. I also like having meaningful conversations but I hate people who are all about "deepness". I met a guy out in Indiana over the summer, and even tho he was FREAKIN HOT, he was way too emotional and deep for me. He kinda made me feel dumb.

Oh, and he has to respect my parents.

i'm going with what someone said earlier...surprise me. i think the beauty in people are the differences. i could never list what a person has to have or not have in order for them to be 'perfect for me'. all i ask is an open mind, an accepting heart, and lots of laughter. i am me, one of a kind to say the least, and all i want in life is the person that loves me for that! not someone that's upset that i have a lipring, thinks i'm weird for saying my tattoos helped me get through a rough spot in life, or judges me for being a total dorkette! the thing that makes life special are the people we come into contact with, and i'd never limit myself to a list of some sort, cause i'd be afraid of missing out on someone awesome. not that lists are bad, some people know exactly what they want, but i like surprises.

/dork ramble.

A well-rounded sense of humor. Smart enough to be sarcastic, goofy enough to be cheesy.

Confident, but still gets a little red when I compliment him.

Smart, but not so cerebral that I can't talk to him past 9pm when my brain shuts down for the evening.

Has to like music, probably would be good if he liked what I liked (a healthy combo of rap, r&b, alternative, indie rock, soul, 80's, and classical--mostly)

Has an "old soul" thing going on, and is MATURE (but can still be silly too, when it's the right time)

Knows why I vote Democrat and Republican, based on the situation/candidate

Likes to talk. About everything.

Isn't easily embarrassed.

Laughs at my jokes and antics, and has some of his own that I can laugh at.

Doesn't mind when I burp from drinking too much alcohol.

Cooks WITH me in the kitchen

Must have a healthy sexual appetite...for ME. Don't be afraid to put on your freak hat either...

.....and finally....LIKES MY FAMILY!!!

Hopefully now that I have put that out in the universe, he will be walking past my cubicle annnnny time now...

Would it surprise you to know I have a theory about that?

When we are looking, so often we think we know what we are looking for. When we are not looking, I think we are more apt to see things for what they are.

It is like matching a tie to a suit & shirt. (ladies and guys young enough that you never accumulated a selection of ties, feel free to translate this to some other analogy of your choice). I might be thinking "I need to choose a blue tie to go with this." I might never notice this weird green-grey-brown one might actually bring out some subtle colour in the suit, because I was looking for a blue tie. If I'm just going through my ties, I might look at that tie and realize "Hey, you know, that would be perfect with my suit."

If I'd been looking to meet a gal when I met my wife we never would have gotten together, because there were at least a couple of things about her that I knew I was NOT looking for. Fortunately for me at the time I was resolutely trying to just meet more people with no intentions of starting something permanent.

^^ I think you just said that when you stop looking for something specific, you broaden your horizons and see so much more

I used to have a list of things I wanted in a man - but my boyfriend ended up being 'none of the above'. I've had to change them since!

What really attracts me to a guy though is bitchiness. It sounds weird, but the bitchier the guy is, and the quicker to come back with a retort, the better I like him. So, what I like now are witty, bitchy, sensitive, gentle, kind guys who are creative, liberal and atheist. And they also have to be those perfect 'nice' guys - the ones who'll do anything for you! I guess I also prefer a more submissive and innocent personality, because it seems to balance me out very well (given that I score in the low 20s in the purity test).

A trader not a leach

A destroyer to destroy that which destroys long term happiness for every action there is an opposite & equal reaction.

A recorder of logic to cultivate reflective thought

Strong commitment to reason

understanding of what they are thinking

courage to accept the truth as thier friend

uses mans biological distingushable trait "reason" as standard for gauging self worth

committed to what is true & good, &
understands they are capable & worthy of living

Willfully embraces the effort & responsibility of a volitional consciousness

Primary contact with reality is through valid ideas & not through consciousness of others

highest value would be life ( the first rule of any living thing is to stop from dying)

An active mind willing & able to think & judge with thier best & honest ability to cultivate truth

A healthy mind that is not a junk heap of invalid theories

A healthy mind that understands many concepts & there exact meaning i.e., 2+2=4 & not 2+2=3.9 or 4.1

uses logic as court of final appeal

understood the laws of logic & the principals of thought

had no conflicting values

Thought ideas out in their intirity from all degrees of trend of negitive & possitive.

A high level of love & fear. Mans mind is so constituted he can not keep all of his knowledge in his vocal awareness. In order to survive he must be able to make instantious appraisals of the situations he encounters. If for example while crossing the street a large truck was about to hit you instead of carring out a long thought process, fear would cause you to lunge out of the way. Emotions are products of our premises the thinking we have done & or failed to do.

Love is an emotional response to that which we value it causes one to gain possesion or come in contact with that which they value. Fear on the other hand is an emotional response to that which threatens ones values, It causes one to avoid that which causes the fear.

confident: & not living in a sea of self doubt & confusion i.e., thinking who am I to think & judge if its good enough for the ivory tower intellect its good enough for me

independent : Of the recognition of the fact that thiers is the responsibility of judgement & nothing can help them escape it _ That no substitute could do thier thinking, as no pinch hitter can live your life.

Questions with boldness

A productive hero

focused mind & not a suspension of consciousness, The act of unfocusing of the mind is not blindness, but the refusal to see, not ignorance but the refusal to know.

Gadzooks! Those are some tall orders, big shoes to fill, and big beds to sleep in.
While this is a perfection wish list, it reminds me of job postings asking for Java programmers with 10 years exp. when the language itself was only 5 years old.

My wish list would probably look alot like the Scout Law: Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent.

Hi Ed! Somehow I missed this post of yours, but I'm glad I found it now. I think you're right about that. Often we think we know what's best for us, and sometimes we're right. But other times, what works is something we never even considered. Thank you for giving your perspective, Ed.

I like someone who is intelligent, witty and funny. It's always nice when you and another person can get together and discuss meaningful stuff rather than talk shallow stuff like beer, parties and the weather.Nothing is more sexually stimulating than meaningful discussion.
