www.bigmoves.org/
Has anyone tried it? What are your thoughts? It looks to be size positive, so I'm all for that...and I love to shake my booty!

As a BHM, I've always loved dancing. When I was younger (and still very much a BHM) I was approached a couple times to be a backup dancer in some music videos (no joke), though I never did one. I still enjoy getting out there and breaking a sweat.
I've never tried this group, but I think it sounds very cool! |

It sounds fine but I bet 90% of the people that go there are lifelong dieters. The British Government is trying to introduce dance classes for the obese (whatever that means) to cure the "epidemic"... Governments speak in such stupid words.

I haven't tried it - it is way too far from me, but have always wanted to. I so wish we had something like this in Austin!

Not sure where you got the idea that bigmoves has dieters in it, metalhead.
The size acceptance group at my college, of which I am co-chair, brought big moves (the boston group) here recently to perform their show "Gargantua: Fear of a Fat Planet." It was incredible. Definitely MANY people of size involved in the production (including the director, Marina Wolf Ahmad). I even got to learn belly dancing from two women of size involved in the group. How cool is that? ![]() They are very friendly, and a terriffic group. I highly recommend taking advantage of any chance you have to get involved with them, or to see one of their performances! ![]() |

Big Moves is very legit Size Acceptance. I'll admit, I was prepared for it to be Size Acceptance in deed, if not word, but they are the real deal. I can't speak for everyone involved in the group and inevitably some fat people will always cling to fat negativity, even while emersed in such a positive environment, but their dancers were all very size positive. My gf has taken some of their classes and speaks highly. She only wishes they did more classes here in Boston. Their performances are great fun and I'll be pleased to be in the audience for my third show in a row this Sunday. As a performing troupe, they are very varied with modern dance co-mingling with hip-hop, belly dancing, and even some musical theater. They are also diverse in size. Sure, a couple dancers are what might only pass as "mid-size" around here, but they have some SSBBW dancers, too. If they are doing classes near you, I'd highly recommend them.

I'm a huge Big Moves fan! My favorite segment of the Big Burlesque's Fat-Bottom Revue was always The Phat Fly Girls from Big Moves. They're phenomenal. Matilda St. John is an incredible choreographer who I've gotten to know here in the Bay Area thanks to Miss Sita Edwards introducing me to her and her hubby.
When Marina approached me about doing the official poster for Gargantua: Fear of a Fat Planet, I leaped at the opportunity. And oh my god!! Guess what?? The (very) limited edition high-quality poster print is for sale!! Signed and numbered! ![]() The Toil Shop Last edited by Les Toil : 12-06-2006 at 03:13 PM. |
