Following AFG's lead...

At a great Vietnamese restaurant in the Tenderloin in San Francisco called Cordon Bleu, about 20 years ago. A number five combo -- chicken cabbage salad, 5 spice roast chicken, something called "meat sauce on rice", grilled pork and Imperial roll.

Oh. My. God. I've craved it since the day I left SF.

Second choice, at a restaurant called Great Hunan in SF, their Spicy Sweet and Sour chicken and Mongolian beef. Soooo good.

I swear I have not had good food since I left that city. Everything else pales in comparison.

Man, you guys have all these fancy foods.

My favorite is a full chicken finger sub plain with side of fries from a local chain here, called John & Mary's. Next time I go, I'll take a pic. They toast the sub roll so it's crispy yet fluffy in the center. It's just delicious, if a bit plain-sounding.

Beef tenderloin medallions @ Murray's Restaurant in Lexington.
2 medallions, one topped with a zinfandel mushroom reduction and the other topped with a smoked tomato bernaise and Miller's crabmeat. It is served with asparagus risotto and corn pudding.

I never even look at the menu, just order that when we go there.

And I'll tagalong right after Miss Vickie and say the fish with garlic and Kwongnan chinese in Vallejo, Calif but alas the restaurant is no more (sobbing ever so slightly)....

The other is the Spicy shrimp and Chicken at Johnny Carino's...and sigh...there isn't one anywhere near.

Ya know, Canonista, since my chosen meal doesn't exist, I'm considering P.F. Chang's lettuce wraps in the running. Thanks for the reminder!

Well, I can't remember the name of the restaurant, it was some Mom and Pop place in Puerto Nuevo, Mexico. We had huge platters of fresh caught lobster, stacks of fresh handmade flour tortillas, tubs of drawn butter and heaps of super yummy rice and beans. So, lobster soft tacos. A meal I remember with great fondness to this day ! I don't think I've ever eaten so much before or since... Truly a landmark day.

Ohhhh yum!! All this thread is making me so hungry!! They all sound and look so good.

One of my favorite treats as far as an entre would be the "Rockshell Shrimp in spicy sauce" at Nobu. I thought I just about died and went to heaven the first time I had it and its a must when I get to go there now. I never thought I would be so lucky at to get back there but I have gone 4 times now and each time its just as good!! Oh it takes lots of self determination and restraint now to stop from listing more here!!

Thanks for the salivatory images people*S*

Was it in Puerto Nuevo? There are several restaurants there, and they all serve the lobster, I'm sure, but this place was small and very casual. It had picnic bench type tables, if I'm not mistaken.

We had lots of Cerveza with ours!

The Steak Tower at Pomodoro's here in T-town. Thin spaghetti with browned butter and Myzithra and a perfectly grilled NY strip on top, served with grilled asparagas.

Or at the El Dorodo in Reno, their in house made ravioli with porcini cream sauce.

What would be incredible are the two together!

Can I get a "what-what" for the Blue Ribbon Burger?!

On a related note, the Captain Neon Burger at McMinamins is equally bleu-cheesily delish.

Canelloni from Ristorante Venizia in Berkeley. In fact, anything from there. They do cream sauces REALLY well. Even their bread with butter or dipped in olive oil is the best.

Similarly, anything from House of NanKing in San Francisco. I can't even remember the names of the dishes other than the potstickers (excellent!) But it's the best Dim Sum. (Gotta go very early or very late tho or get it to go - otherwise there's always a long line and the seating is cramped when the place is full.

There are a ton of places just as good but different in Manhattan but I can't remember any names 'cos it's been over 25 years since I''ve spent time there.

My best dining out experience in Detroit (decided to limit myself here) was a Cuban restaurant called Vicente's. Their Arroz Con Pollo is like jazz for the tastebuds. So many different notes all doing their thing, but blending into a delightful whole. OMG... so hungry now just thinking about it!
