Default "Diet" Foods You Should Hate

I take a moment from posting pix of my naked ass to posit the following question (IF I'm missing an already existing thread, do point me there):

What foods that you *should* hate because of years in the diet wildnerness or from foodphobic relatives or from the idiot media or whatever...do you actually love?

I just made myself a big bowl of tuna salad with tons of....CELERY. Tons. Tons and tons of really finely shaved, crunchy celery. I adore it. I *should* hate it, because of its endless dieting associations ("keep carrot and celery sticks in fridge for when hunger strikes!" blah blah blah fuck me), but I just love it. I love the texture, the flavor, the tang. I don't like it cooked at all, but raw, I'm very happy.

Anybody else? I know a lot of people seem to like diet sodas, for instance...regular tastes too sweet...

I'm pretty screwy about food. Many things I started eating out of a weird obsession to be thin, and I still love just because I ate them so long:

Slim Fast

diet soda

cabbage

baked chips

tofu

skim milk (hate whole, 2%, 1%)

green beans with nothing but black pepper

fat free cottage cheese

fat free grilled cheese sandwiches

Funny, I think diet pop tastes sweeter than regular..just a fake sweet...

I love veggies..most of them..especially big green salads, full of color and textures. What is better than to enjoy a sweet and mild cuke, next to the splendor of a vine ripened tomato..etc..etc.Sometimes, in chat, when I mention my love for salads, there are people who think that I am eating them to lose weight..*L*..I think the chocolate and cake and butter..oh my!..'makes up' for my criminal love of veggies..

so...salads

I also share your love of celery. To have a bag of groceries where celery is one of the occupants, and you get it home..oh..wow.

I'm with you, I LOVE salads. Love them. I love them with good bread and butter on the side, and with some protein in them...delicious. There is a SW salad I get near work with turkey and black beans and corn and tortilla strips...love it.

I like baked chips, too, TSL. Esp. those Baked Whatevers that taste like cardboard...yum.

I also forgot:

- Reduced fat Ruffles. SOOOO good. Taste more potato-y than regular. Love them.

- Lean Cuisine mac&cheese. Better than regular, if you ask me. Dunno why.

Diet soda and skim milk - Regular for both taste too heavy for me. That is pretty much it for me.

Diet Coke, but I drank sugar free back when I was pre-teen and all there was was Tab and Fresca. Never liked the sugar stuff because it upset my stomach and made my teeth ache.

I *love* fruits and veggies...esp. peas, green beans, cabbage, leafy greens, brussell sprouts, corn, squash, celery, califlower, broccoli, carrots..you name it. I usually saute the majority of these in a little E.V. Olive Oil and garlic..some get the cheese sauce.

Liz, I am TOTALLY with you here... Some of the most delicious foods I've ever tasted are salads and I have a good half dozen types I like to make, often as a main meal... !

The diet connotations need to be dispensed with. Just because something isnt calorified to the max doesn't mean it cant be delicious!

WOW I have a list:

Diet pop- I am ALL about the diet pop. Not only does it taste the same as regular (not coke, blech, I don't like cola too much) to me, but also Eugene has this giant Ant problem... and ants don't like diet pop.... so when we're lazy and don't take our cans to be recycled one week, we don't have to worry about ant attacks.

The Laughing Cow Light cheese Wedges- These are so good, and come in 3 flavors, and are the perfect serving size, and they melt well, and you can use them as sandwich spread, and they're 10 kinds of wonderful.

Turkey Bacon- I can eat this right out of the package... until the package is empty.

Skim Milk- Every other kind tastes blech

Salads- I love salads, and I love trying different salad dressings. I think we have about 6 bottles in the fridge right now.

Dreyers Slow churned Ice cream- Did you know this has way fewer cals than regular ice cream? I didn't until I bought some american idol ice cream the other day, and it is SO GOOD. Seriously. The lower cals make NO DIFFERENCE. I reccommend the "take the cake" flavor.

and last but not least:
Granola bars. I LOVE granola. Yummmmy.

Yeah. I'm tired of those people. Real, real tired. Ever notice how the people who seem to care so much about, and be so invested in, what you eat are the same people who aren't buying, making or giving you any food? So why they want to get involved, I will never know.

Grrr. VENT.

I also love a big salad. Now I kind of de-healthify mine by sometimes adding fatty things (eggs, cheese, croutons, nuts, too much dressing) but the only thing there that really bothers me is the too much dressing. Everything else is good for me one way or other.

I love really rustic, fiber-filled bread. I never take sugar in my coffee or tea and my favorite thing to drink is unsweetened brewed-from-bags ice tea. A lot of people think it's sharp and unforgiving, but I think it quenches thirst much better than anything sweet, which just invokes thirst.

Baby carrots rock the house. It's the sweet/crunchy thing. I also love Dannon coffee yogurt. In truth, with the amt. of sugar that's in yogurt, only nutty people would think it's a diet food, but I certainly like coffee yogurt as much as any other chubbier sweets.

Just plain water can be good, too. I always thought I'd do ok in prison, since I like bread and water so much. But it'd have to be bread and water w/o rat parts in 'em...

Rice Cakes...I like the lightly salted rice cakes. The only problem is that I load them up with cream cheese which defeats the purpose of a rice cake lol.

Water...I should be sick to death of water but it's pretty much all I drink. There is nothing like cold bottled water when you need to quench your thirst.

Skinny Cow Ice Cream...I don't know why. I just like it.

Yogurt...Plain or Vanilla yogurt with fresh fruit, berries, or granola is wonderful in the morning.

*nerdy honk* Wellllll...ya know how things work....how as size acceptance grew, people wholesalely examined the reasons for so much profit-gouging diet crap, and there was this big backlash against diet soda. It was unPC. Why would anybody wanna ingest a tool of the fat-hating patriarchy? I remember going through a diet-coke-no-way phase myself in college when I first started to 'come out' as a big jiggly person with regards to food.

Now, thankfully, we're able to just see it as personal choice. So much saner. Gettin in someone's face about their food/drink choice should not be an option...

I'm on the diet pop parade float also. I love the stuff.

Raw veggies? Yes please!

Its interesting about the pressure folks got about diet pop back in the day. I'd have no clue about it besides reading an 80s anthology on fatness and several of the authors recounted their tales of activism in getting places they were speaking at to stop serving diet soda for a day. I couldn't relate. Very interesting stuff!

I'm sitting here reading this while chowing down on a bag of snap peas.. I love munching on them. The crunch rocks and they're very tasty!

I eat a lot of salads and love them. I'm usually cold after eating them but they're sooo yummy!

I also LOVE diet cherry pepsi. I dont drink a heck of a lot of soda but that's my soda of choice. It's sweet and yummy.
