Default Off the top of your head… What song helps you remember something?

Off the top of your head… What song helps you remember something?

I was just reading Bigplaidpants’ thread about the Oscar Meyer weiner mobile and realized it’s the Oscar Meyer song that helps me remember how to spell:

bologna

From School House Rock I also remember this off of the top of my head (I have to sing it…)

We the people, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice and insure domestic tranquility. Da-da-da… for the common defense, promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty, for ourselves and our posterity. To ordain and establish this constitution for the United States of America.

"Fifty Nifty United States" helps me remember all fifty states.

Techno-pop trainwreck "I Like To Move It" by "artist" (this term is questionable) Reel 2 Reel assists me in recalling the nonsensical amount of time I spent standing in corners at middle school dances, just in case I forgot. It was played frequently at these gatherings.

Default School House Rock Rocks

Of course, many of these songs were written for the expressed purpose of remembering things. For those who don't know, School House Rock was an educational project played on Saturday morning TV in the 70's & 80's.

This one was great for remembering the Preamble of the Constitution in my High School government class.

Stan...u da man. Hands down.

"Righty-tighty, lefty-loosey" for bolts and nuts.

"Suck, squeeze, bang, blow" for engines.

"Red touch black, friend to Jack; Red touch yellow, kill a fellow" for remembering which striped snake is poisonous (unfortunately, I forgot the continent to which this applies).

"Farther below, Lake Ontario takes in what Lake Erie can send her", for recalling which one is upstream.

"Wet and warm, good for corn; Cold and dry, good for rye" for what to plant according to what kind of summer its going to be.

"Eat A Darn Good Breakfast Everyday", for tuning a guitar.

...and more that I'll post as they occur to me...

You know, Stan. I'm such a boob. I got so excited about your post, I didn't even read the whole thing.

Default What's that thread title again?

"Off the top of your head… What SONG helps you remember something?"

Oops.

Disregard most of my list, then.

Sorry.

No worries! Sometimes I write things that are so convoluted I don't fully read it again myself

I suppose rhymes are pretty much like songs too! Maybe I'm weird, but I remember so many things from songs. I have to credit School House Rock for helping me remember so many things that I wouldn't otherwise remember!

Here is another one that I remember from when I was a kid...

There was a Halloween song that went like this:

H - A - double - L - O - W - double - E - N spells halloween (that's all I remember...)

That same tune was used to open a children's show:

H - A - double - R - I - G - A - N spells Harrigan (the show's main character, a leper...uh...leprachaun).

Haven't thought of that in years.

...er...

Decades, actually.

"Brick House" by the Commodores makes me think of Dimensions.

Even though 36 - 24 - 36 is just the beginning.....

the "bucky o'hare" theme song helps me to remember that my favorite gift is my imagination. :-)
