I was thinking, with so much discrimintation still out there for us fat folks, why not do a world wide walkout. Us fat people run banks, schools, drive busses, buy consumable goods, etc... If we all decided to take a day off from everything, we could really affect the economy & hopefully show that we are an important part of society. Lets set a date!!! (If someone has said to do this before, sorry for repeating it.)

The world economy would grind to a halt. Fat people make the world go round!

It would definitely feel like a Twilight Zone episode... just going on with your everyday activities with the feeling in the back of your head that something's just not quite right...
Then again, I'm 5'10 and a svelte 230 pounds so I'd probably be with all of you guys, wherever you are.

I hate to what sounds like a great plan, but how are we going to get most or the entire fat population to do this?
Can we get a hold of enough for them for people to notice?

In my workplace there are only two of us that are what I would cinsider fat. Although there is a third that comes in to do programs with the kids a couple of times a week, but afraid it wouldn't impact my workplace much. But ya know contacting the various size acceptance organizations and suggesting a collective movement might be a great way to let people know we are a viable part of society. It could be something simular to the no diet day and with some press coverage might make a good point . GOod idea KUDOS!

If we are really serious about pulling this off, I can do it as well?

![]() However I snapped to attention when someone mentioned "trimming the fat" from a budget. "Hey," said I in mock horror, "I hope you don't trim toooo closely everywhere." My boss chimed in, "Don't worry, Sue. You always pull your own weight, so *your* kind of fat is perfectly welcome around here." Cool! ![]() PS. Methinx my boss meant that remark to be heard by some of the deadwood around here. Kinda cool that the fat woman serves as a good example. Looks like I've edumicated some key people about fat acceptance. Or, I must be kissing up just about right! ![]() Last edited by TallFatSue : 08-27-2007 at 11:43 AM. |

Come to think of it, it is entirely possible that a walkout of fat people might backfire. My impression is that many people see only what's in their own little world, and all they'll remember from such a walkout is what an inconvenience we caused them. "How dare those fat people walk out? I always knew they were lazy!" A walkout might actually increase negative perceptions. Or maybe I'm just thinking about certain goods and services that I now tend to avoid, due to walkouts or slowdowns that personally inconvienced me.
For me the best form of fat acceptance is to try to set a good example, and other forms of positive reinforcement. It seems to work, at least in my own little world. Oh, to heck with it all. We fat people are in the majority now, so let's just take over everything. Who cares what the skinnies think? ![]() |

It could backfire, but think about if the media go a hold of it. If you could really organize a boycott day, it isnt just not going to work, it is about not spending money, not going out to eat, not using your cell phone, just simply saying I am going to take this day for myself & other fat people. We do have a voice & that voice is loud. What are the statistics on overweight people? Last I checked, we are becoming the norm...

Besides, I already wield the power of the purse in my day-to-day life. Those places that treat me like a valued customer continue to get my business. One advantage of being a big tall fat woman with a big smile is that people remember me, so I tend to get pretty good service. My charm offensive may not work for everyone, but it sure seems to work for me. Accentuate the positive. ![]() |

Agree on all points. But you still must admit that to just do a walkout one day, would not only be fun, but would just send a message that we are fat & we are not going to be treated as equals.
