Default Half-Ton Man On The Insider Tonight

The Insider is going to present a profile on Richard Duele, the Half-Ton Man who had lost over 600 pounds. Check local TV listings. It should be on CBS in NYC at 7pm tonight.

Default Insider show was from this morning

Turns out the Insider show profile on the Half-Ton Man was just from the morning edition of the show.

TLC did an entire evening of huge people last night. They did an hour on the 627 pound woman, followed up by the 1/2 Ton Man, both had wls. It was incredibly sad and truly showed how things can go very badly. I watched both, I don't know if I would recommend these shows. It was heartbreaking.

The documentary on the 627 pound woman made me cry. I couldn't watch the part of the show where the home health aide was trying to get her into the minivan -- she was so obviously in excruciating pain, miserable and embarrassed. No matter how bad things got for her, she always had a smile on her sweet face. It was horrifying to watch things go so wrong after she had surgery. Worse was seeing how many times she was just sent home after she endured so much --- only to have to go through it all again a few days later, and get rushed to the hospital.

I would recommend the show, if only because I think that it was a very realistic perspective on what can go wrong (and right) for people contemplating WLS.

Yeah.. I've seen all of these. I don't like "The Half-Ton Man" though.... the man himself, not the show. He's just a real asshole about everything.

There was also one about a guy who weighed over 700lbs and they put him in one of those rehibilitation centers. He ended up dying from an infected bedsore that got to his heart.

I've noticed a rising trend in "overweight" shows. I tend to watch them (I'm more than slightly facinated) but the only one I really enjoied was the "True Life: I'm Obese" that originally aired a year or two ago. It had this woman on there that was so secure with herself that she went to a model call that didn't specificly call for "plus sized" models. Not only did she go, but her confidence won her a spot in the fashion show they were interviewing for! She was the begining of my confidence!
