my gf wants a corset really badly. She's about 5'4 and around 250 (she won't give me an exact number, hehe). Most of the corsets that would fit her midsection are too big in the chest for her. She's probably about a b or c cup. Both she and I are very attracted to corsets and we're definitely interested in finding one that could properly fit her. What are our options? Is there a place that sells them with customizable cup sizes?

I recommend that you go the classic route and have one made. There are lots of good corseters around, and though it will end up being fairly pricey it will be made just for her and fit perfectly.

I second Waxwing's suggestion -- go custom made so it fits her perfectly.

Hi

A traditional corset doesn't actually have cup sizes, they are fitted by waist size alone. A standard fitting corset wont necessarily flatter your figure unless you are extremely lucky. The rest of us who are extra voluptuous, extra pear shaped, long waisted, short waisted, tall or petite will only get a flattering fit from a custom made corset.

If you want the corset to shape the figure you need a personalised pattern made, and then layers of lining fabric, top fabric, bones, bone casings and eyelets all need to be carefully cut and placed and the corset to be sewn together with skill and care. This takes a great deal of time and skill and it wont be cheap so set a realistic budget that you are comfortable with and then try to get the best value you can from it.

If you spend £50 on Ebay you wont get the same fit, durability and effect as you will if you spend £350 with a professional corsetiere. I'm not saying you -have- to spend a fortune, but be aware the results will vary. In my opinion lots of items you see for sale call themselves corsets when in actual fact they would far better be described as Basques. They are still lovely, feminine and sexy etc etc, but they dont fit or work as a corset should.

I think other than that I would suggest you shop around carefully and take recommendations from other BBWs on who will be able to give you the best service. Ideally find someone who either is a BBW herself or has experience in sewing corsets for plus sizes. Curves can be a challenge and you dont want your hard earned cash being spent by someone learning at your expense.

My corset is from there, and I LOVE it. It's quite amazing, fits like a dream, and is a level of quality that is just non-existant in today's modern clothing. It's really a throw back to another time, and the craftsmanship and quality are unparalleled. Heather also has two corsets from her (one was her wedding corset) and they're just amazing garments.

Sorry I can't get my hands on a picture of it... maybe I'll wear it for NYs this year.
