Who here meditates? I'm really keyed up because the semester just ended and it's too cold to go running right now (my normal method of calming down). Unfortunately I'm really bad at meditating and I was wondering if anyone had any... advice? What do you do?

Two words: indoor track
But seriously. Sit in a silent room and breathe.

I do self-hypnosis mp3s sometimes, or that progressive muscle relaxation. I don't think it's the same as meditation, but it does help you to relax really well

It depends on what you are "into". I have lots of CD's that I use for meditation. Some is guided imagery, alot is spiritual (angels and all that jazz) or chakra balancing and some is just music. One thing I learned when I was certified in Reiki to help focus is to count backwards..but actually SEE the numbers. It really does help to focus and relax. It sounds weird but it really helps.

A really good friend of mine has taught yoga for years, so I took a bunch of her classes and just kind of learned how to enter a meditative state no matter what my surroundings are.
But when I first started what always helped me was incense, and silence. Really its an idea of looking into yourself, dont think about your inner mind, just sit and make sure your mind is silenced. Eyes closed, calm, steady breathing and make sure your mind is silent. At least that is what has always worked for me and I feel amazing after.

My method of meditation is a bit... different from the usual image of it. It's not sitting in a lotus position, eyes closed. Meditation, as I understand it, can be done almost anywhere at almost any time. I don't use it for inner peace or enlightenment or any such ideal, I just do it to help get myself kinda calm.
Basically, what I do is I start doing a task. Any task, preferably something repetitive or monotonous. Something I don't have to put my mind to. Once I'm going along with that, I just let go of my mind. I let it drift wherever it wants to go. I make no attempt to control my thoughts. Before I know it, the job that I was working on is completely done, and, having separated myself from it, not only do I not feel inconvenienced, but actually somewhat happy that it's done. That's what I do for meditation. It gets things done and it's somewhat relaxing, but it can get totally screwed up if there's a problem with something- where a stubborn tab won't fit into the slot it's supposed to go in. Alternatively, I also sometimes put on the most relaxing music I can find- there's one song that can really do this well for me- and just lose myself in it, in the imagery of it. With this, I consider myself relaxed when I realize that my breathing has slowed down so immensely that it's almost stopped. Hope those help.

sometimes i like just good old fashioned walking meditation even if its cold i like to bundle up and enjoy a park nearby and just focus on NOT thinking and calming my mind
or breath out negative, inahle positive, slow slow slow breaths...as simple as it sounds it really works for me...... and lastly..i love just putting on the ipod ear buds and listening to some really ambient music.....
