Magazine Advice Column reply has me fuming!!!

hope u can see this scan ok of a page from this weeks sunday magazine, free with the news of the world.

the man giving this advice is a bloody gp! and a very well known one at that, he appears on tv here regulary, dr hilary jones.needless to say i have emailed my anger to them lol....

"your man likes you big because other men are less likely to fancy you..."

so he couldnt possibly just like a curvy girl, or she couldnt just be relaxed as she now in a stable relationship. she certainly doesnt say this man is holding a gun to her head as she eats. he cooks for her and takes her out! sounds like a nice guy to me! if she doesnt like the food she doesnt have to eat it.

Well, to be fair to the idiot who writes the column, he's probably never heard of FAs before, and thus doesn't recognize their behavior as being possibly benign. Still, shame.

Well, in the Dr's defense- I have Tourette Syndrome and most of my Dr's don't know crap about that, so for them not to know what an FA doesn't surprise me in the least.

Regarding the article, it could have been phrased differently. He couldn't tell "GO for it! Gain weight! Enjoy!"-Because he is a DR. He could have said something like "If he loves you it doesn't matter what size you are as long as you are comfortable with it...." or something cheesy like that. But it's definitely not the first time I have heard that theory and I'm sure it won't be the last, and yes, it is very sad!

Grrrrrr! I cannot BEAR Hillary Jones. Remember he used to be on TV years ago and was so smarmy, then was caught having an affair when his wife had just given birth to, or was pregnant with, premature twins. Just cos hes a doctor doesn't make him exempt from being an arsehole.

I'm going to complain too!

Oh and P.S to Americans, UK size 14 is US size 12...

He's a doctor, and he could have caused this woman to go off and believe and accuse her boyfriend of fattening her so other men don't fancy her, while libeling him. My ex was like that. (Hence.. he's an ex.) He'd tell me he wanted me to lose SOME weight but not all of it, because he knew if I got "too skinny" I'd be pretty to everyone else, too.

Yeah. The truth is, there *are* some men who think this way and act accordingly. Without knowing this couple's situation, we don't know if he's a feeder/FA or if he's an insecure jerk who thinks if his partner is bigger she's going to have fewer opportunities to cheat or leave him. We're always reading about men sabotagin their partners' weight loss efforts, and I think it's true that in some cases, they are afraid that if the woman becomes more attractive or more self confident, she'll leave or have an affair.

I had an ex like that, he wasn't an FA, but in some ways would rather have me fat so other men didnt fancy me, because he was so insanely jealous. However. the vast majority of men are NOT like that, and couples for the most part gain weight in the first while of living together, its a fact as Bexy says. I cant believe the doctor gave that reply to the woman it just stuns me.
